WHAT HAPPENED?
Rafael Márquez, former Barcelona player and current assistant to Javier Aguirre with the Mexican national team, took part in the Legends Clásico between Barcelona and Real Madrid – a match that featured iconic names such as Figo, Marcelo, Iker Casillas, Andrés Iniesta, Carles Puyol, and Rivaldo.
The "Kaiser," who played for the Culés from 2003 to 2010 after a successful stint with AS Monaco in Ligue 1, shared that his move to Barcelona sparked a shift among fans.
"Because of me, a lot of people switched from Madrid to Barcelona – but that’s just how it is, and I’m grateful for all the love they showed me and my teammates," said Márquez.
Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have the largest global fan bases outside their home country, with 15.6% and 10.4% of international support respectively, placing them ahead of Manchester United (9.8%). That is is according to a report by the Chiliz Group, which surveyed fans across eight countries in Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

He has already gained global interest and has an ILT20 deal with MI Emirates in January.Off the 332 players lined up for the draft, 28 are eligible for retention by clubs they played for last season. The first 12 players are part of the platinum list, which was announced on Monday, with the rest following in gold, silver and bronze categories.A maximum of 24 players will be signed during the draft with clubs needing to pick a minimum of two and maximum of three names.
Aston Villa chiefs are real admirers of a versatile striker from abroad, with a foreign correspondent suggesting he could even replace Jhon Duran, who’s attracting interest from Ligue 1 champions PSG and other elite sides.
PSG eyeing January move for Aston Villa star Jhon Duran
According to credible media sources, Luis Enrique’s side have cast their eyes on Birmingham in pursuit of talent this winter, and are believed to be considering a January move for Duran.

The Colombian’s fine form since the summer has resulted in Unai Emery’s side awarding him a brand-new £75,000-per-week contract earlier this campaign, with Duran netting 12 goals in all competitions, including in pretty big games against the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
The 21-year-old was allegedly very close to departing Villa Park in the last transfer window, but he’s since established himself as a star player for Emery as big clubs sit up and take notice of his Premier League exploits.

According to some reports, Chelsea are among the sides who’ve enquired over Duran’s availability this month, though it appears PSG are the most interested.
GiveMeSport reporter Ben Jacobs has backed reports of PSG’s fondness for the South American starlet, but Monchi and NSWE value Duran at £25m more than what the French heavyweights are prepared to pay in January.
As a result, there is still some ground to cover in terms of valuation before a potential transfer, but other reliable media outlets claim that PSG are prepared to offer players in a bid to sweeten a potential deal (Daily Mail).
Aston Villa really like Marco Asensio who could replace Jhon Duran
According to RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, fringe PSG forward Marco Asensio has fans in B6.
The journalist even suggests that Asensio could join Aston Villa in place of Duran, with PSG potentially able to use the former as a makeweight to lower the cost of the latter in a mooted part-exchange.
Villa “leaders” are said to really like the former Real Madrid striker as a “versatile” option in the centre-forward position as the threat of losing Duran looms. Asensio, on a rumoured €280,000 (£235,000) per week at the Parc des Princes, has been relegated to the bench by Enrique in recent weeks – so much so, that his exit is a real possibility before deadline day on 3rd February.
While the 28-year-old is traditionally a right-winger, he’s been used more often than not as a No 9 in France, and Asensio’s previous career at Real saw the Spaniard win a plethora of major honours, including three Champions League titles.
Visitors plod their way to total control in relegation battle with Warwickshire
ECB Reporters Network14-Sep-2022Somerset’s greatest display of aggression came before the start of the third day at Edgbaston when they issued a media release stating that the ECB’s current cricket schedule was “unacceptable” and that the south west needed “the highest standard” of men’s and women’s cricket to be able to sustain the game in the region.”The current domestic playing programme, which resulted in only four one-day matches being played in Taunton over 43 days in the height of summer this year, with 17 Somerset players unavailable, is unacceptable to the club, its members and the South West’s cricketing public,” Somerset said as the debate continued over the future structure of the English game.Their point made, on the field they plodded their way into total control against Warwickshire on the third day of their LV=Insurance County Championship Division One relegation battle at Edgbaston. They closed the third day on 277 for 4 – 300 ahead – to virtually insure themselves against defeat heading into the last day of this crucial game.On a pitch which remained slow but lost its menace, Somerset, led by captain Tom Abell’s obdurate 87 from 173 balls, batted through the day for 264 runs in 101 overs. Supported by Tom Lammonby (40 in 170 minutes) and George Bartlett (91 not out, 209 balls), the skipper lifted his team into a position whereby they have it in their power to simply bat Warwickshire out of the game.It was another tough day for the home side, who took just two wickets in three sessions. They must now lift themselves to bat well enough on the final day to avoid a defeat which would severely damage their prospects of survival. After resuming on 13 for 2, Somerset settled straight into the slow lane, Lammonby and Abell adding 55 runs in 36 overs in the morning session. At one stage, one run arrived in seven overs while Lammonby went 11 overs without scoring. It was gritty stuff, not easy on the eye but a totally understandable approach in the match situation. Warwickshire’s hopes of an early clatter induced by India internationals Mohammed Siraj or Jayant Yadav were thwarted as the pitch blunted the pace of the former and offered only very slow turn to the latter. The second-wicket pair added 79 in 41 overs before Lammonby edged Olly Hannon-Dalby to Rob Yates at slip. Bartlett seamlessly took up the cudgels of caution and settled in alongside his captain while Warwickshire skipper Will Rhodes shuffled a bowling attack that plugged away nobly to ensure that runs at least never came quickly. The fourth-wicket stand was worth 72 in 25 overs when Abell’s 246-minute vigil ended when Danny Briggs turned a beauty onto his off stump.Again, home hopes of one wicket bringing two were in vain as Lewis Goldsworthy added his application to the collective diligence. Bartlett and Goldsworthy put up a century stand in 202 balls and were still there together to resume in the morning having so far added 121.

Sheffield United supporters would been relieved to see Leeds United only pick up a drab point away at Burnley on Monday night after the Blades fell to a surprise 3-0 defeat to Hull City.
As a result of the Whites playing out an unmemorable 0-0 draw at Turf Moor, Chris Wilder’s men are only two points off the Championship summit, with a big win away at Derby County needed next for the South Yorkshire outfit to get their promotion efforts back on track.
SheffieldUnitedmanagerChris Wilder reacts after the match
Nobody can accuse United of being quiet in the transfer window either in their bid to return to the Premier League, with another potential deal on the cards taking the total of incomings up to a sizeable four.
Sheffield United interested in deal for EFL star
As per an exclusive report from the Sheffield Star, the promotion chasers are keen on adding Harry Darling to their ever-growing group before next month’s abrupt deadline as Wilder goes about strengthening his defensive numbers.
Darling has generated quite a lot of interest this transfer window to date owing to his Swansea City contract expiring this summer, with Bristol City and Birmingham City previously looking at the 6 foot 2 centre-back before the Blades started sniffing around.
With Harry Souttar out of action for the rest of the season due to a ruptured Achilles tendon, Darling would very much gift Wilder another rock in the heart of defence away from the injury-stricken loanee.
Moreover, United have tasted success when buying from the Swans in the past, with Oli McBurnie turning into a fan’s favourite at Bramall Lane after waving goodbye to Wales.
What Darling could offer Sheffield United
Before delving deeper into Darling’s strengths as a centre-back, the 25-year-old can only hope to be as popular as McBurnie was in South Yorkshire if he does make the switch shortly.
In particular, his efforts during the 2022/23 campaign still stick out to this day, as his crucial 13 strikes from 38 league games helped the Blades push up to the Premier League.
Darling possesses a similar goalscoring knack even when lining up as a defender for Luke Williams’ men, with the Swansea number six helping himself to nine goals in the Championship across his impressive career to date.
In the past, Wilder has loved working with defenders who can fight and battle but also have the ability to fire home a killer goal, with Darling perhaps becoming his next Jack O’Connell or Harry Egan in that sense, alongside also being an arguable upgrade on the unfortunate Souttar.

Looking at the table above, Darling does better his injured counterpart in many different areas this season in the Championship, with more accurate passes managed per contest as a competent performer out from the back, alongside other numbers going in his favour.
Indeed, the “heroic” ace – as he was labelled by Williams earlier this campaign – averages more ball recoveries as a tenacious presence, whilst his numbers in terms of clearances registered and duels being won fall flat just when weighed up next to the 6 foot 7 man mountain.
Wilder will pray that Darling’s signature can be won, therefore, as he looks like the best possible replacement for Souttar in the short-term, with the added impressive qualities of being able to join in with attacks and spray the ball about with more ease.
United fans will be blown away by how much business has been done so far this window, with plenty more expected before this coming Monday’s dramatic deadline.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Amidst competition from Manchester City and Real Madrid, Bayern Munich are preparing an ambitious move for Florian Wirtz worth €250 million (£210m/$280m), with the club's hierarchy strongly backing a potential transfer in 2025, according to a report from Sport BILD. Wirtz has been heavily linked with a move away from the BayArena, although he has a contract extension offer from Leverkusen beyond 2027, including a €125 million release clause starting in 2026. If he doesn’t renew, Leverkusen are reportedly open to selling him this summer for no less than €150 million.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Bayern face competition from Real Madrid and City, but honorary president Uli Hoeness is personally involved, maintaining close contact with Wirtz’s father, Hans, to ensure that Wirtz joins them. He is joined by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, a member of the supervisory board, and club president Herbert Hainer, forming a powerful trio capable of facilitating a deal estimated at €250 million, including wages.
DID YOU KNOW?
More importantly, Thomas Muller’s departure at the end of the season will free up significant room in the wage bill. The 35-year-old veteran earns a reported €17 million annually — funds that could be redirected toward Wirtz’s salary, which would total around €85 million (£73m/$95m) over a proposed five-year contract.
Beyond his on-field qualities, Bayern view Wirtz as a marketing asset. Like Muller, he is backed by Adidas — a Bayern shareholder — and is seen as part of a future star duo alongside Jamal Musiala, potentially replicating their visibility from Euro 2024.

While there's no telling which way Wirtz's future is headed, he will be hoping to help Leverkusen defend their Bundesliga title if this is indeed his final season with Die Werkself. Xabi Alonso's men are currently six points behind league leaders Bayern Munich with just five games to go. They will face St. Pauli on Saturday, April 19.
