Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin was on Sunday reinstated as president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) by ombudsman Justice (retd) Deepak Verma. In an interim order, the HCA ombudsman temporarily disqualified five members of the HCA Apex Council – vice-president K John Manoj, R Vijayanand, Naresh Sharma, Surender Agarwal, and Anuradha – that had “suspended” Azharuddin for alleged violation of its constitution.Allegations of conflict of interest were levelled at Azharuddin.Justice (retd) Verma in his order pointed out that the complaint against Azharuddin was not forwarded to the ombudsman and, in effect, had no legal validity.”[The] Apex Council on its own accord cannot take such a decision. Therefore, I deem it appropriate to set aside the resolution (if any) passed by these five members in suspending the duly elected President, issuing a show cause notice and direct them to refrain from any subsequent actions against the President of HCA, Mohammed Azharuddin,” Justice (retd) Verma said.”Therefore, I direct that Mohammad Azharuddin shall continue as president and all complaints against office bearers shall only be decided by the ombudsman.”From the aforesaid facts and features, it is clearly reflected that instead of encouraging the game of cricket, each one is playing their own politics for the reasons best known to them. Thus, it defeats the very purpose for which HCA has been formed,” Justice (retd) Verma had said.Regarding the five Apex Council members, Justice (retd) Verma in the order said, “I would like to make it clear that, just because these five members believe on their own accord that I am not ombudsman does not take away my powers which are now been confirmed by the High Court judgment and the minutes of the 85th AGM as well.”These members cannot evade the due process of law just by stating that they don’t agree to my appointment. It is clear from the above, that these members have malafide intentions and do not want smooth functioning of HCA.”

A member of the Arsenal squad has opened up about the fear he’s experienced as he gets treated for a “bad” injury, with the player also working hard to get back to full fitness.

Arsenal beat Tottenham 1-0, courtesy of a goal from Gabriel Magalhaes, with goalkeeper David Raya taking all the headlines in Bergamo as the north Londoners grabbed their first Champions League point of the season against Atalanta..

They also came away from the Etihad Stadium with a 2-2 draw, and they could’ve even won the clash. Arsenal were leading Man City 2-1 for the majority of the game and did well to hold them when down to 10, but John Stones’ dramatic late leveller meant they had to settle for a draw.

These results have been made all the more impressive considering Mikel Merino is sidelined with a fractured shoulder, while left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko has been out for weeks after his calf injury.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is still out with a knee injury as well, and David Raya, Jurrien Timber and Ben White are doubts to face Leicester City as well. Kieran Tierney remains absent with a thigh problem too, so Arteta has a bit of an injury crisis right now.

There is also their biggest miss, £30 million club captain and chief creator Martin Odegaard, who suffered ankle ligament damage on international duty with Norway.

Odegaard admits to fear after "bad" ankle injury

Sharing his own update, Odegaard has shed light on his “bad” ankle injury at Arsenal, all while explaining how his recovery is coming along as he hopes to return as soon as possible.

“It was a bad twist to my ankle, and I damaged some ligaments there,” said Odegaard in his programme notes pre-Bolton.

“But it’s part of football and now I’m just trying to recover as quickly as I can. I’m moving forward, making progress and I’m feeling more positive every day. I’m working hard and my only thought is to get back as soon as possible.

“I’m at the Sobha Realty Training Centre basically every day now, working hard and doing everything I can do to get better. I have to be careful not to push it too much, but at the same time do what I can to make sure I come back as strongly and quickly as possible. I’m trying to support the team in a different way now, if I can’t be on the pitch. That’s my situation, and I have to make the best out of it.

“It’s something I’m not used to. I’ve been quite fortunate, if that’s the word, or have done well to avoid injuries in the past, but this is football and I have to get on with it. I think it was unfortunate to get the injury in the way that I did, but also it could have been worse. It was not a nice twist, and when it happened I felt it could be serious. I’ve injured my ankle before and the pain felt a bit different this time. That’s what scared me, but from what happened it could have been worse, so in that sense I got away with it a bit.

“Like any player, the first thing I asked the medical team was how long I would be out for, but it’s a bit tricky to say at the moment. In the early stages, it’s crucial to get a proper rest and to make sure everything heals well. After that it’s about getting stronger and building it up again.”

After initially struggling to get it off the ground, the format went on to revolutionise the game while also for a time threatening to tear it apart.Cornell was managing Dennis Lillee when the idea of WSC was first formed as a way of better paying players and he would be a key figure in signing other international stars to the competition. And it was Cornell who approached a Sydney advertising agency to create a jingle for the competition when it had struggled to take off in the first season – the outcome was the iconic “A classic Australian character, John Cornell made the lives he touched much richer, not only through donations, but also through his generosity of spirit, humour, humility and honour,” his family said in a statement. “A true egalitarian, John sought equity and equality, and fought for a fair go.”John’s acute instincts and sharp intelligence drove his rebellious push of World Series Cricket against the establishment for higher recognition and bigger salaries for the world’s players of his favourite game, reimagining, marketing and capturing it in a brand-new form.”Away from his impact on cricket, his achievements were legendary in TV and film including producing and co-writing which starred his long-time business partner Paul Hogan and remains the most profitable Australian movie of all time.Prior to the movie he started out as a journalist in Perth, then was the original producer of before a 16-year run of “John Cornell was a man of enormous intellect and a creative genius who managed to touch so many, but as importantly he was a man with a big heart that filled a room,” Michael Healy, Nine’s director of television, said.”From journalism with the creation of A Current Affair, through sport with World Series Cricket and entertainment with his mate Hoges they made magic on television for decades here at Nine.”

Leeds now eyeing move for "fantastic" £2m manager to replace Daniel Farke

Leeds United are believed to be eyeing a “fantastic” manager to replace Daniel Farke in the Elland Road hot seat, should he be relieved of his duties.

Farke under pressure despite Leeds win

It hasn’t necessarily been the most convincing start to the season by the Whites, who went into the campaign as one of the favourites to earn promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.

A 3-3 draw at home to newly-promoted Portsmouth was a disappointing way to start the campaign and Leeds’ performances and results have been unpredictable ever since, with a 1-0 defeat against Burnley at Elland Road last weekend the worst league result so far.

It has led to pressure mounting on Farke’s shoulders, with the 47-year-old arguably not getting the most out of a talented squad, even though he was hit by the summer exits of key figures such as Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter.

On Saturday, the manager had a positive day at the office, with Leeds winning 2-0 away to Cardiff City. It was a much-needed result for all concerned, not least the manager himself, and three points means the Whites are into sixth in the table and in the playoff positions. Despite this, Farke’s job appears to be far from safe though, following a new update.

Leeds eyeing "fantastic" manager to replace Farke

According to a big claim from The Sunday Mirror [via MOT Leeds News], Leeds, and by extension owners the 49ers Enterprises, are eyeing a move to replace Farke with Carlos Corberan, should the former be sacked in the near future. The Whites boss is under “big pressure” to keep his job and the West Brom manager is “highly regarded” at Elland Road.

There are “suggestions” that Corberan has a release clause of £2m at The Hawthorns currently, having guided the Baggies to the top of the Championship table.

Farke is rightly under a huge amount of pressure, with the overall season not good enough so far, even though sixth place is far from a disaster currently. This is a squad more than capable of being in the automatic promotion places at the end of the season, and if the German can’t get the best out of it, Corberan stands out as a brilliant option to do just that.

The 41-year-old has impressed so much as West Brom, getting into the playoffs last season and now ensuring they sit top of the pile after six matches, and Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchcliffe has waxed lyrical over him, calling him a “fantastic figure” with great “attention to detail”.

This is a ringing endorsement for Corberan, showing what kind of manager Leeds would be getting, and many fans may arguably love to see him take charge in place of Farke immediately due to his previous ties to Marcelo Bielsa. The next few weeks feel crucial, but it should be stressed that there is no guarantee that Corberan would leave West Brom, appearing happy there currently.

Davies must hand 1st start to Birmingham star ahead of Gardner-Hickman

The games continue to come thick and fast for Chris Davies’ Birmingham City in League One, with a home clash against Peterborough United up next for the buoyed-on Blues.

After an underwhelming 1-1 draw kicked off their League One season against Reading, the ambitious West Midlands side have been near faultless since, with five wins managed now on the bounce which included a recent terrific 3-1 takedown of promotion rivals Wrexham at St. Andrew’s.

Winning with swagger last match too away at Rotherham United, it does feel harsh to speculate that Davies could tinker with his lineup for today’s game, but one defender could miss out.

Gardner-Hickman's performance vs Rotherham

That defender could end up being former West Bromwich Albion man Taylor Gardner-Hickman, who joined the ever-growing ranks at the Blues this summer on loan from Bristol City.

The versatile 22-year-old, who can also line up in midfield if required, has made three starts for his employers to date in League One since joining, with his last start seeing him slot into the right-back spot against the Millers.

Although his display was anything but a car crash – with Gardner-Hickman never leaving his side short to the point where the hosts managed to find a way back into the contest – he could be seen as an arguable weak link, having squandered possession 13 times in total at the New York Stadium.

The new Blues recruit did also run his heart out for the cause, but was poor when it came to asserting himself into duels in South Yorkshire all the same, with only two successful duels won from nine attempted in the away match.

There might also be an argument that Davies is currently shoehorning the Bristol City loanee into his starting eleven, with Gardner-Hickman only making four appearances from 40 for the Robins to date in this right-back position, whilst other more naturally suited full-backs sit on the bench.

With Birmingham Live journalist Alex Dicken also stating that the 22-year-old looked ‘leggy’ at full-time, despite gifting him a high 7/10 rating in his post-match thoughts, the time could be right to freshen the lineup against Darren Ferguson’s challengers today, as another new signing strives to start in Gardner-Hickman’s place.

The player who could replace Gardner-Hickman

Alfons Sampsted might well be the lucky defender that starts over Gardner-Hickman as Posh come to town, with the 26-year-old yet to be unleashed from the get-go in any game so far this season.

He has shown in flashes why the Blues decided to pick him up on loan from FC Twente this summer, however, with his brief cameo against Rotherham standing out.

Whilst Gardner-Hickman failed to win a single duel when he was on the pitch versus the Millers, Sampsted would enter the fray for just 11 minutes and successfully win all of his own, whilst also creating a big chance late on to try and make his side’s 2-0 lead in the game even more convincing.

Unfortunately for Sampsted, who would have loved an assist to show for his late efforts, fellow second-half substitute Keshi Anderson would fluff his lines after being found in space by the Iceland international.

Ethan Laird will also be back soon and raring to go in this right-back spot, after finding himself sidelined with an injury of late, as Davies’ options all over the pitch seem to be plentiful.

That was the case last match for sure, as Alfie May was surprisingly demoted to the bench, with Davies perhaps wanting to change things up in defence this time around by boldly omitting Gardner-Hickman.

Emi Martinez issues demand to Aston Villa with World Cup winner frustrated by trophy drought at club level

Emi Martinez has told Aston Villa "I want silverware", with the World Cup-winning goalkeeper frustrated by his trophy drought at club level.

The enigmatic South American has savoured global glory and two Copa America triumphs with Argentina, while landing a number of prestigious individual accolades. He did win the FA Cup and three Community Shields at Arsenal, but only figured in two of the contests that delivered gold medals there.

Martinez, at 32 years of age, is determined to help Villa claim a first piece of silverware since the 1996 League Cup. You have turn the clock back even further to find the club’s last FA Cup win, in 1957, but another quest for that iconic prize is about to begin.

WHAT MARTINEZ SAID

Ahead of an FA Cup third-round clash with West Ham on Friday, Martinez has said: "I want silverware for the club. I want a cup run and I was very frustrated to be knocked out by Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup. I think the fans deserve to be in Wembley at the end of the season. It is something missing for the club for many years. I want cups and I know the feeling it brings for myself and the fans."

Martinez added: "For me, anything is possible in football. When I came here the club were not in the situation we are in now. The season before I arrived, we finished 17th, and then progressively, we were 11th, seventh, and fourth. The season so far has been good – not like I want it to be – but we knew that playing in the Champions League and competing in the top four would be tough. We had to sell players and the new players needed time to adapt, which they are doing now. We are doing well."

Martinez, with two Yashin Trophy wins and a couple of FIFA Best Goalkeeper awards to his name, went on to say of the pressure that he is now operating under: "I was talking to my agent, my dad and my wife, saying that you can’t really enjoy awards. It’s game after game after game. Once you get to that level you need to perform week in, week out. Everyone expects you to perform and everyone is waiting for you to make a mistake, saying 'that's the best 'keeper making mistakes’. We are struggling to keep clean sheets and that’s hurting me a lot because I demand a lot in myself."

Alasdair Gold reveals what left Spurs boss Postecoglou fuming vs Newcastle

Journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed what left Ange Postecoglou fuming on the sidelines as Tottenham fell to a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday.

Spurs suffer first defeat of the season

A late goal from Alexander Isak ensured that Tottenham suffered their first Premier League loss of the season as they were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle United at St James' Park.

The winning goal for the home side came after a sustained spell of pressure from Tottenham, who dominated much of the ball after equalising and looked certain to find a winner. It was a tough loss for Spurs and Postecoglou to swallow, as he made clear in the aftermath of the game.

"Another one that got away from us. We played well enough, certainly had the chances to win the game comfortably but you walk away with nothing, so [it's a] bitter pill to swallow but it is what it is," the Spurs head coach explained.

"We created chances and if you don't get the second goal when you have the momentum…

"I thought we were in control of the game, we were playing in their half. The 'keeper's pulled off a couple of really good saves. We had the opportunities to test him even further but we didn't.

"The amount of chances we have, we really should be getting more than what we're getting as a return at the moment."

The result leaves Tottenham 10th in the Premier League heading into the international break, while their next game pits them up against north London rivals Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But there was one moment that Postecoglou particularly disliked during their trip to St James' Park.

Postecoglou left fuming by booking

That came late in the second half, with his side chasing the game and susceptible to the counter-attack. As Anthony Gordon raced away down the left touchline, he was met by a firm sliding challenge by Rodrigo Bentancur, with the Uruguayan appearing to make strong contact with the ball.

The referee thought otherwise, penalising the Tottenham substitute and dishing out a yellow card for good measure.

The decision, dubbed "woeful" by Tottenham journalist Alasdair Gold, left Postecoglou perplexed and irate, and Gold added that the Spurs boss "made his feelings known" to both the referee and fourth official.

Though an improvement on the 4-0 thrashing that Spurs suffered last season at St James' Park, the defeat raises many of the same questions about Postecoglou's side, chiefly their inefficiency in both penalty areas, which is sure to cost them throughout the season unless they can find a fix, sharpish.
