Arsenal’s £60k-p/w Rock Is One of Arteta’s Best Signings

League leaders Arsenal may have endured a slight wobble in recent games, although that should not detract from what has been a stellar season so far under manager Mikel Arteta.

After having missed out on Champions League qualification at the tail end of last season, the Spaniard has since transformed his youthful outfit into genuine title contenders, with the club's impressive recruitment having been vital in that recent resurgence.

The £32m arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko, in particular, has helped to spur on the north London outfit this season, with the Ukrainian gem having gone from something of a peripheral figure at former club Manchester City to now being a leading figure at the Emirates.

The versatile left-back's impact has been recognised by his manager who hailed him a "perfectionist", with few having been able to anticipate just how vital the 26-year-old would become in his new home.

The former City ace is not alone in having potentially proved any doubters wrong during his time in the capital, with teammate Aaron Ramsdale having also quashed early scepticism after signing from Sheffield United back in the summer of 2021.

How good has Ramsdale been for Arsenal?

As club legend Ian Wright noted last season, the England international had been somewhat "ridiculed" following his arrival in a £30m deal, with fans and pundits alike having questioned the wisdom in bringing in a player who had suffered back-to-back relegations with the Blades and for Bournemouth.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has also recently admitted that he had been "scratching his head" at the time of the goalkeeper's switch to north London, although has "never been more wrong" such has been the 24-year-old's impact to date.

Aaron Ramsdale for Arsenal

The £60k-per-week rock's fine form has also been praised by journalist Pete O'Rourke, with the respected insider telling Football FanCast that the stopper could well be among the best signings of Arteta's tenure thus far.

Asked where Ramsdale would rank among the best additions of the decade, O'Rourke stated: "Yeah, I think he's got to be up there. Came under the radar and obviously came in for a bit of criticism when he first arrived at the club.

"Arsenal did spend big money on him when they signed him from Sheffield United, who had just been relegated, so it was a lot of question marks about paying the big money for him. And obviously, he came in as the number two goalkeeper originally with Bernd Leno still number one, but he's worked really hard. He got that number one shirt midway through last season as well and he's held on to it."

The 6 foot 2 ace has been in particularly impressive form so far this season after keeping 12 clean sheets from his 31 Premier League outings, having been rather heroic in the recent draw away to Liverpool.

The one-time Cherries gem notably denied Mohamed Salah with a stunning, sprawling save late on in that thriller at Anfield, before remarkably keeping out Ibrahima Konate at point-blank range when the Frenchman appeared nailed on to score.

That "exceptional" performance against the Reds – as per Arteta – has only served to rubberstamp just how impressive Ramsdale has been for the Gunners thus far, with the point he neared his side potentially pivotal in the title reace.

Indeed, the Stoke-born titan has left a lot of those initial naysayers looking rather silly.

Chelsea Missed A Trick Over "Electric" £70m Dynamo

When Chelsea announced that they had won the race to sign Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk back in January for an £88.5m fee, you would be forgiven for thinking that he could be a player to take the club to the next level.

He had starred for Shakhtar Donetsk during the first half of the season, registering 18 goal contributions across all competitions, and he was one of the most sought-after wingers on the continent.

Since arriving at the Stamford Bridge outfit however, he has underwhelmed so far, grabbing just two assists, while the 22-year-old has an average Premier League Sofascore rating of 6.38/10, succeeding with just 27% of his dribble attempts and failing to score.

Would the Blues have been better off pursuing another January target instead – perhaps one who could have offered a greater attacking threat and settled in better than Mudryk? In Portuguese forward Rafael Leao, Chelsea appear to have missed a trick.

Did Chelsea miss out on Rafael Leao in the January transfer window?

The club were linked with the AC Milan player throughout the winter transfer window, with the Serie A side demanding a fee of €80m (£70m) in order for anyone to sign him, which would have worked out cheaper than the Mudryk deal.

There is no doubt Leao would have been a much better signing for Chelsea than Mudryk when you take a deeper look into their respective stats this season.

Across various attacking metrics, Leao has registered more goals (ten to six), shots per game (3.59 to 1.82), shot-creating actions per game (4.55 to 2.83) and delivered more crosses (57 to 11) this season than the Chelsea winger, suggesting that they may have signed the wrong player.

Leao ranks in the top 10% across Europe’s big five leagues for assists, progressive carries and successful take ons over the past year, whereas the Ukrainian barely ranks in the top 40% for the latter two statistics, clearly suggesting the Milan star is one of the finest on the continent in his position.

Rafael Leao

Having been dubbed “electric” by teammate Fikayo Tomori, the data does suggest he may have added more goals to a struggling Chelsea frontline and in turn, could have saved Graham Potter from the sack.

That is all conjecture of course, but the stats don’t lie – Leao has been in much greater form than the current Chelsea winger and perhaps in hindsight, would have made a bigger impact at the club.

Man United Want To Sign £60m Premier League Magician

Manchester United are reportedly among the clubs who are interested in signing Leicester City playmaker, James Maddison, with the Englishman looking set for a summer exit from the King Power Stadium.

What's the latest on James Maddison's future?

According to The Telegraph, the Red Devils – as well as both Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur – are said to be keen on signing the 26-year-old, with the report suggesting that it is now looking 'inevitable' that the former Norwich City man will move on at the end of the season.

The piece adds that the two-cap ace 'is set to be sold' even if the struggling Foxes are able to stave off relegation, with any potential suitor needing to cough up between £45m and £60m if they are to secure his services, with just over a year left to run on the player's current deal.

The Coventry-born gem does appear to have been a long-term target for those at Old Trafford, with Manchester Evening News reporting back in February 2020 that Maddison was the club's 'prime playmaker target' for that forthcoming summer, with the player himself said to have been keen to make the switch.

How would Maddison fit in at Man United?

While the highly-coveted talent is part of a Leicester side that has been desperately underwhelming this season – with a return to the second tier potentially on the cards for the Midlands side – the midfield maestro has still been something of a shining light, with nine goals and seven assists in 25 Premier League games so far this term.

That follows what was a standout 2021/22 campaign for the clinical "magician" – as hailed by Statman Dave – as he contributed 30 goals and assists in 53 games across all fronts, including 20 goal involvements in the top flight alone.

Although Maddison has done much of his damage off the flanks of late, the versatile asset could also slot into Erik ten Hag's side in a creative, midfield berth, ensuring he could represent a potential upgrade on experienced ace, Christian Eriksen.

Leicester City's James Maddison

There's no denying that the latter man has been an astute capture since his free transfer arrival last summer – having racked up two goals and nine assists in 38 appearances to date – although there may be concerns over the 31-year-old's ability to be a long-term solution in midfield, particularly amid his recent, difficult return from injury.

The Denmark international was notably replaced on the hour mark in the FA Cup semi-final clash with Brighton and Hove Albion after being restricted to just 26 touches on the day, while having also 'shook his head in frustration at his own performance' against Aston Villa on Sunday, according to MEN's Samuel Luckhurst.

As such, turning to Maddison could potentially represent something of a long-term, midfield upgrade, with the England international's dynamic quality showcased by the fact that he ranks in the top 12% among his European peers for progressive carries and the top 17% for successful take-ons, while Eriksen, by contrast, ranks in just the top 35% and the bottom 19% for those same two metrics, respectively.

Equally, Maddison's innate creativity is showcased by the fact that he ranks in the top 4% for progressive passes received – further rubberstamping his forward-thinking and probing approach – while the current United man ranks in just the top 33% in that regard.

The Leicester sensation also potentially offers more in a defensive sense having averaged 1.6 tackles per game in the league this season, while Eriksen has averaged just 0.6 for that same metric, further proving what a potential upgrade Maddison could be for Ten Hag.

Rangers: £25k-p/w Talent Could Be Next Todd Cantwell

Glasgow Rangers are 13 points off the top of the Scottish Premiership and have already been knocked out of both domestic cup competitions and Europe heading into the final month of the campaign.

It has been a disappointing season for the Light Blues as Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Michael Beale have both failed, barring a sensational collapse from their Old Firm rivals in the final five games, to bring home a trophy.

Planning has already begun to right the wrongs in 2023/24 and one player who appears set to be on his way to Ibrox in the summer is attacking midfielder Kieran Dowell.

The Daily Record recently claimed that the Englishman will sign a three-year deal with the Scottish giants upon the expiry of his contract with Norwich City this summer, after already passing a medical.

Who is Kieran Dowell?

The £25k-per-week gem is a midfielder who can play out wide, as a number eight or in the hole behind the striker, and has been playing in the Championship for the Canaries this season.

Beale could now repeat the trick he played with Todd Cantwell, who arrived from Norwich in January and also plays in the attacking midfield positions, by bringing in the 25-year-old's former teammate.

Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell.

Since joining in the winter window, Cantwell has caught the eye with a string of impressive performances in the Premiership.

The English dynamo has averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.33 and chipped in with two goals and four assists in ten starts, after failing to produce a single goal or assist in nine Championship starts for Dean Smith in the first half of the campaign.

How has Kieran Dowell performed this season?

The Canaries no.10 has had more success in the second tier of English football than Cantwell this term.

The 25-year-old has scored five goals and assisted three, whilst creating six 'big chances', in just 14 starts for the Yellows, which shows that the mercurial playmaker has the quality to be a goalscoring threat while also consistently creating chances for his teammates.

Dowell, who was once hailed for his "beautiful technique" by journalist Josh Bunting, has provided 23 key passes in the Championship and could – like Cantwell – be an exceptional option for Beale to call upon in the Premiership.

His former Norwich teammate has already taken to the Scottish top-flight like a duck to water and that bodes well for the chances of Dowell translating his impressive form over to Scotland next season.

Therefore, the Gers head coach could repeat the masterclass he played in securing Cantwell's signature in January by swooping to sign the former Everton academy graduate to bolster his attacking options this summer.

Liverpool Moving In On £70m Deal For "Magic" Man

Liverpool are making progress in the negotiations to potentially sign Alexis Mac Allister in the summer having presented their plans to his camp.

Will Liverpool land Mac Allister in the summer?

The Reds have put together five victories on the bounce now after their narrow win over Fulham at Anfield, however, Champions League football remains highly unlikely.

With Europa League football the most likely outcome from the 2022/23 campaign, Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to bring in some upgrades over the summer.

The slow start to the campaign has, ultimately, cost Liverpool in the race for the top four but their usual standards from challenging for the title are well adrift.

One player who they are believed to be targeting ahead of the summer is the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Mac Allister.

And he is a player who is expected to leave the Seagulls over the summer following is meteoric rise this season which has seen him become a world champion.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has proved an update on the future of the 24-year-old Argentine with the Reds expressing their interest:

(3:30) "I can tell you that Liverpool feel they are making progress in the negotiation to sign Alexis Mac Allister. They presented the project to the player's side. So Liverpool had direct meeting to present their project to Alexis Mac Allister, they are going to push on the player's side and then they feel that they can close the deal with Brighton."

Would Mac Allister be a good fit for Liverpool?

The Reds are in need of some reinforcement in midfield over the summer with one of their current crop expected to be heading for the exit.

Indeed, veteran and versatile midfielder James Milner is expected to be leaving the club over the coming months with reports of interest from Brighton.

But this is already a midfield which has come under fire across the campaign with Michael Owen hitting out at their weaknesses earlier in the season.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.

Mac Allister is certainly a player who could provide that much-needed spark for Klopp's side given the form he has shown on the south coast this season.

The Argentine has been hailed as "magic" by presenter Jack Collins and it is clear to see why when he ranks inside the top 13th percentile for shot-creating actions (via FBref).

Jude Bellingham is the name who had been so heavily linked with a potential move to Anfield over the last year or so but it is believed a move for the 19-year-old has fallen through.

However, Mac Allister has recorded a higher pass completion rate (86.3%) than the Borussia Dortmund midfielder (81.3%) (via FBref).

Mac Allister is not a cheap alternative, though. This is a player who is expected to cost in the region of £70m over the summer.

What will be interesting, is whether Liverpool look to use Milner as potential leverage in the possible deal for the Argentine.

Man United Could Be Handed Takeover Update Soon

Manchester United fans could be enlightened with a potential takeover update in the coming days following the latest deadline on Friday night.

What's the latest with Man United's possible takeover?

It is now half a year on from when the Glazer family announced that they would be open to listening to offers for the Premier League giants.

And in that time, a number of interested parties have arisen with the likes of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Qatari party emerging as serious bidders.

However, in that time, there has been a number of deadlines set for the proposed bidders to table their best offer.

And it seems the latest of those deadlines has been set for 10pm on Friday (28 April) with final bids to be submitted to the Raine Group.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils look set to secure a significant source of revenue on the pitch with Champions League football firmly in their hands with seven games to go.

Speaking on the FIVE YouTube channel, David Ornstein has claimed there is the notion an update should follow in the days after Friday's deadline:

(30:00) "The consensus is that after that deadline [28 April], we should have some clarity in the days ahead as to where this is heading. But from my perspective, it remains unpredictable. Clearly there is confidence within those two main parties of [Sheikh] Jassim and [Sir Jim] Ratcliffe. But there is also an issue within the family over whether they stay or go."

Will the Glazer's sell Man United?

Well, it does seem it is not a foregone conclusion that putting the club on the market does, in fact, mean that the Glazer family will sell the club.

Indeed, a report from ESPN has suggested the current owners could potentially look to remain at the helm if they do not feel they are maximising their profit through a possible sale.

The report even claims that the American family could possibly look to remain at Old Trafford for another decade with the notion of increasing their return on investment even further.

Manchester United fans protest the Glazer's ownership outside of Old Trafford.

It is believed the Glazers are looking for a bid in the region of £6 billion to take the reins at Old Trafford as they currently hold the majority stake (69%).

However, according to the report from ESPN, there is the belief that remaining at the club could potentially see their stake in the club rise to around £10 billion over the years.

Erik ten Hag's first campaign will be labelled as a success if they secure a spot inside the top four this season, however, there are clear areas for improvement.

And the longer this potential sale goes on for, the more time it will eat into ahead of the summer transfer window where the Dutchman will be looking for the funds to improve his side.

In-form Bairstow keen for limited-overs role

Test wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow hopes to persuade the selectors to find room for him in England’s white-ball set-up as well

Alan Gardner23-May-2016With two hundreds in his last four Tests, as well as 24 catches in his last three, Jonny Bairstow has seemingly silenced debate about his place in the side. He is not ready to stop there, however, and hopes to persuade the selectors to find room for him in England’s white-ball set-up as well.Bairstow has averaged 46.93 since returning to the Test XI at the expense of his Yorkshire team-mate Gary Ballance during last year’s Ashes, while the hard work he has put into his wicketkeeping looks to be paying off as well. Bairstow took the gloves when Jos Buttler was dropped in the UAE and has now twice claimed nine catches in the match – two shy of the record – during emphatic England wins at the Wanderers and Headingley. While his renaissance was founded on 1108 runs at 92.33 while keeping wicket for Yorkshire as they once again secured the Championship title in 2015, the spark in international cricket came during an ODI against New Zealand last June, when an unbeaten 83 from 60 balls led England to victory in the deciding match of the series at Chester-le-Street.Bairstow has played just three more ODIs and a single T20 since then, with Buttler preferred as England’s limited-overs keeper, but the injury suffered by Ben Stokes at Headingley, which is expected to keep him out for six weeks, as well as James Taylor’s retirement could pave the way for a return during next month’s one-day fixtures with Sri Lanka.”I want to play every format I can. Absolutely,” Bairstow said. “I want to play all forms of cricket for England, that’s an ambition I have. I want to succeed in that. If that opportunity does arise, I don’t see any reason why Jos and I can’t play in the same side. I think that would be an exciting prospect with the likes of Stokesy, Jos and myself in that middle-order.”There are still two more Tests to play before England need worry about their 50-over side and, after his Man of the Match performance on his home ground, Bairstow will return to Chester-le-Street looking to continue the superb form that finally earned him another chance, 18 months after his previous appearance at the back end of the disastrous 2013-14 Ashes tour.”I think it has been the culmination of a few years,” he said. “Being left out of the side isn’t necessarily a very nice thing to have done to you. I think moving forward, you either rest on your laurels or you take it on the chin and crack on. I think you learn a lot about yourself. It’s not necessarily a nice thing to be left out or not do so well in a position that you know you’re capable of doing.”Coming back to Yorkshire for pretty much two years, learning your game, learning about yourself, playing my cricket here in a really great environment and winning trophies has done us and myself a world of good. Form can be taken from you very quickly. It only takes a couple of bits to go wrong and all of a sudden potentially you can be out of form. At this moment in time, I’m feeling good, happy with the way I’m striking the ball and with my movement. Hopefully, that can continue.”Bairstow’s performances at No. 7, from where he helped put on 141 with Alex Hales at Headingley, and continued uncertainty over England’s best batting order – James Vince scored 9 on debut at No. 5 after coming in for Taylor – has led to suggestions he could go up the order. Stokes’ injury means he and Moeen Ali will almost certainly move up a spot for the next couple of Tests and Bairstow remains happy to fill whatever role best meets the team’s needs.”I’ll bat wherever. [No. 5 is] the position I bat for Yorkshire and keep wicket so, if that opportunity comes up, it comes up,” he said. “I’m happy at seven. As we know, the team is pretty balanced with Stokesy at six and Mo at eight and myself at seven. I think that is a really good position to be in, a good balance. The rest, I don’t really want to think about to be honest because at this moment in time, I’m just happy, playing my cricket, seeing the ball, trying to catch the ball.”An uncluttered approach and a drive to keep improving seem to be serving Bairstow well, and after a “very special game” he just wanted to savour the moment. “First Test in England keeping wicket, first hundred in England in the Test side, 25th cap at your home ground in front of your home crowd is a fantastic moment. It’s something I don’t think I’ll ever forget. And to have family and friends here makes it a pretty good week.”I didn’t go on and score big runs in the UAE but I was happy with the way I was playing. South Africa, the way I contributed there with both bat and gloves I was pretty pleased with. And it was important I started this season well. I’m pleased with the way it has gone for Yorkshire and started for England but we know it will be tough for the rest of the series against Sri Lanka and who knows what will happen against Pakistan.”

Aston Villa Could Sign New Grealish In £40k-p/w Game-Changer

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal's Emile Smith-Rowe this summer and the England international could prove to be the next Jack Grealish under Unai Emery.

Could Aston Villa sign Smith-Rowe?

According to journalist Chris Wheatley, the 22-year-old is frustrated with his lack of first-team opportunities so far this term and could seek an exit from the Emirates this summer, with Villa said to be an interested party.

Smith-Rowe worked under Emery during his time at Arsenal and was one of their standout performers in the Premier League last season, notching ten goals and two assists, but injury issues and the Gunners' title charge have meant that he has featured just ten times from the bench in the top flight this campaign.

Speaking on the Chris Wheatley show, the journalist said:

"Unai Emery’s a big admirer of Emile Smith Rowe. Don’t forget, he was the manager who gave him his opportunity in the Arsenal first-team when he took over as head coach.

“I know he’s disappointed with his lack of first-team opportunities. Whether or not he looks for a move away from the club is another story altogether. He’s a quality player, he offers a lot.

“So yes, Smith Rowe is wanted by Aston Villa. I think it’s a move that he would certainly consider because it’s a chance to rejuvenate his career.

“I think Villa might be a really good opportunity for him with a really, really good coach in Unai Emery, who he knows well. So let’s wait and see on that one. But it’s definitely one to watch this summer.”

Could Smith-Rowe be Villa's next Grealish?

Villa were linked with signing the tricky winger as the replacement for Grealish when he left for Manchester City in 2021 but now that he has had more time to develop with the Gunners, he could be a superb addition by Emery this summer.

The Arsenal academy graduate is arguably behind both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard in the pecking order on the left wing, and with more reinforcements likely to arrive this summer ahead of their return to the Champions League, Smith-Rowe could soon be surplus to requirements at the Emirates.

The 22-year-old's dribbling style, which often sees him just glide past opponents, is certainly similar to what Grealish produced at Villa Park on a regular basis before his money-spinning move to Manchester City. They even have the same look, with the Arsenal star sporting short socks that show off his shin pads.

WhoScored also suggests that both Smith-Rowe and Grealish excel at holding onto the ball, while they both like to play short passes, so they are both clearly wingers who perform best when in a possession-based side.

With Villa looking likely to be playing European football next season, Emery needs players who are capable of turning a match on its head and the Arsenal youngster is certainly capable, with journalist Mark Mann-Bryans dubbing him a "game-changer" on Twitter.

If the £40k-per-week winger can be convinced to swap Arsenal for Villa this summer, then there seems no reason why he couldn't emulate Grealish in the future, given his pedigree and obvious potential.

£200k-p/w Star Unlikely To Betray Spurs For Chelsea

If Harry Kane does leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, it is unlikely that he would go to Chelsea, given how much anger it would cause amongst the fans, Julien Laurens has claimed.

What's going on with Harry Kane?

The England striker has been in fantastic form this season, scoring 26 times in the league, despite Spurs struggling as a whole.

There has been a lot of speculation over the 29-year-old's future, as despite his goal tally continuing to rise, he is yet to win a major trophy, and the chaos at Spurs means that he is probably better off moving elsewhere in search of glory.

It remains to be seen whether he will leave this summer, with his contract expiring in 2024, but whilst high-spending Chelsea may be an option, the backlash it would cause if he was to be sold to a major rival means a move to Stamford Bridge is unlikely.

Speaking on ESPN FC, Laurens described Kane as "incredible," and claimed that staying at Spurs or moving to Manchester United were both more likely options than joining Chelsea, even if Mauricio Pochettino becomes the Blues' manager.

"There's still a chance of course, a big chance that he stays, even if he doesn't extend his contract, they keep him then he can go for free during summer 2024," he stated.

"Spurs may feel they have to do that because they can't do without him. I think there's also obviously a big chance that he moves, I would go 50% to stay 40% to go to United and 10% to go to Chelsea, just because Pochettino will be there.

"I know that to be the betrayal of all betrayals, of course, and I don't think that Daniel Levy can sell him to Chelsea either. Otherwise, I mean, Daniel Levy's house will be burned down."

Harry Kane and Bruno Fernandes competing in Tottenham Hotspur's 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League.

What should Spurs do with Kane?

Spurs are currently in chaos, with no deal for a new manager being close to completion, no replacement for recently banned director of football Fabio Paratici and a lot of holes in the squad.

They will need a big rebuild of the squad no matter who comes in as manager, and given that they now look set to miss out on Champions League qualification, selling Kane now may be better than losing him for free next year.

Spurs look highly unlikely to challenge for the title next season, and without Champions League football, the £200k-per-week star may want to play at the highest level in his prime years and may see a move away as the only possible way at this point in time.

If Spurs keep Kane for another season, they will likely be delaying his inevitable departure if he cannot be convinced to extend his contract, and they could gain a large fee this summer to help rebuild the squad, compared to nothing next year.
