Tottenham fans fume over Danny Rose transfer claim

[ad_pod ]

According to Sky Sports News, Paris Saint-Germain are at the head of the queue for Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose.

The report also claims that Spurs would be willing to sell the England international for £20m in this summer’s transfer window.

However, it would be fair to say that the news has not gone down too well with the Tottenham fans, who are struggling to understand their club’s stance.

Rose has not been included in the Spurs squad for their pre-season tour of Singapore.

His omission has cast his future into immense doubt and he looks set to follow Kieran Trippier out of the exit door this summer.

Football Insider have reported that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are nearing a deal for Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon, who is a left-back.

However, a number of Tottenham fans have reacted negatively to the latest speculation surrounding Rose, which is hardly surprising given how influential he was in the final months of the season.

A selection of the responses on social media can be seen below:

Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette replies to Tyreece John-Jules’ new Instagram snap

Arsenal have finished their tour of the United States quite successfully despite the last game against Real Madrid ending in a fiery defeat.

The clash saw Los Blancos clinch the victory only after the penalty shootout, two red cards and a total of four goals scored across the board.

It was definitely a proper match to close out the 2019 summer pre-season for the Gunners and an experience they won’t soon forget, especially those coming from the academies.

One of those players was Tyreece John-Jules, Arsenal’s 18-year-old talent who also accompanied the team to the United States.

He quickly took to Instagram to send his regards to the fans and said it was a great tour to take part in.

And judging by the reactions to his snap, he is highly valued among his friends and teammates.

Alexandre Lacazette was among the first ones to comment and send support to the young Gunner. The Frenchman just replied with “My guy” and posted a series of emojis as well.

Soon, some other youngsters did the same as they all swarmed John-Jules’ profile.

Liverpool fans mock Manchester United’s £85m deal for Harry Maguire

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to mock Manchester United’s £85m deal for Harry Maguire.

Talk of a move to Old Trafford for the England international seems to have been going on all summer, but it looks as if the Red Devils are finally about to land their man after agreeing to the substantial price for the 26-year-old.

It will be a new world-record fee for a defender, surpassing the £75m that Liverpool spent on Virgil van Dijk when signing him from Southampton back in January 2018.

Obviously, whereas the Dutchman is now a candidate for the Ballon d’Or and FIFA’s The Best award, the Reds supporters have been quick to take to Twitter and mock United’s deal for Maguire seeing as he has achieved very little in comparison.

It is a crazy amount of money to pay for a player who has never appeared in the Champions League, but that is the market we find ourselves in nowadays.

Let’s take a look at what the Liverpool supporters on Twitter have been saying about the deal…

Kemar Roofe pens heartfelt message to Leeds United fans on Instagram

Former teammates also took the opportunity to express their emotions in, you guessed it, emoji form…

Fortunately the misery of Roofe’s departure may be eased before the window slams shut.

The latest rumours circulating suggest that Marcelo Bielsa is in the market for a certain young talent by the name of Ryan Kent, who returned to Liverpool this summer after a spell under Steven Gerrard at Rangers but will be allowed to leave on a permanent basis if the price is right.

Not sure many will be complaining about that exchange.

According to the reliable BBC Sport journalist David Ornstein, Leeds are also in the race to sign Eddie Nketiah on loan.

Potentially exciting times ahead if the Whites can get both deals over the line.

Everton should still pursue Stanislav Lobotka despite Jean-Philippe Gbamin capture

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

According to France Football (via Sport Witness), Celta Vigo midfielder Stanislav Lobotka was near the top of Everton’s list of candidates to replace Idrissa Gueye, who departed for Paris Saint-Germain in a £30m deal.

Mainz midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin was also mentioned in the above report, and as many of you may know, the Ivory Coast international is now an Everton player after a £25m deal was struck with the Bundesliga side.

Despite the Toffees’ hunt for a Gueye replacement seemingly coming to an end, their interest in Lobotka shouldn’t end as well.

As you can see, the Slovakia international’s numbers from last season don’t appear to be those of a defensive midfielder, let alone a talented one.

The 24-year-old recorded just one tackle per game on average last term, and made just 0.8 interceptions per game as well.

In stark contrast, Gueye recorded 4.3 tackles per game and made 2.2 interceptions – just how Lobotka was being lined up as the Senegal international’s replacement is baffling.

However, despite Gbamin’s arrival, Everton should continue to pursue Lobotka because of just how different he is to Gueye and the Ivorian.

Check out some amazing tekkers in the video below…

There would be no harm in signing the Celta Vigo man due to his stylistic differences with Gbamin and Gueye, meaning that Marco Silva would have another type of midfielder added to his ranks.

Lobotka seems to be a more balanced option than Gueye on the ball given his one dribble completed per game and 1.5 fouls won per game, which suggests that he enjoys carrying the ball up the pitch and actually taking the game to the opposition, whereas Gueye was more focused on breaking things up and laying it off.

Just because Gbamin has been signed doesn’t mean Lobotka should be completely chalked off the list of targets, as his differing statistics suggest he could still bring a new dynamic to Everton’s side.

Tottenham fans heap praise on Christian Eriksen after game changing cameo

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to praise Christian Eriksen after his introduction off the bench against Aston Villa changed the game for the north Londoners.

The Denmark international only entered the fray in the 64th minute after replacing Harry Winks with the score tied at 1-1, but proved to be the game changer for Spurs.

In just 26 minutes, Eriksen had three shots on Tom Heaton’s goal and also provided three key passes – it was his whipped delivery that led to Tanguy Ndombele’s equaliser.

Much has been made of the former Ajax man’s future with the 27-year-old keen to leave the club, which he could still do with the European transfer window very much still open.

For now, however, the Spurs fans on Twitter have been praising the 5 foot 11 playmaker for changing the game in their favour against the Villans.

Let’s see what they’ve been saying…

Leeds fans react to injury update ahead of Brentford clash

[ad_pod ]On Tuesday afternoon, Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa revealed that Liam Cooper, Barry Douglas and Ezgjan Alioski were all injury doubts for Wednesday’s Championship clash with Brentford.

Indeed, speaking to the media at his press conference, Bielsa suggested that the trio could miss out, although their absence has not been confirmed.

Cooper and Douglas have started all three of Leeds’ league matches this term whilst Alioski has been used twice off the bench in the second tier.

Bielsa is fully prepared for two of the three to be unavailable, though, revealing that Stuart Dallas will switch to left-back with Jamie Shackleton on the right if Douglas and Alioski are both unable to face the Bees.

The Leeds fans have been on social media offering their views on the update and whilst some are concerned/angry/upset by the injury situation, others are calm due to Bielsa having other options at full-back.

Manchester United cannot allow Alexis Sanchez to leave amid potential Martial lay-off

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to The Guardian, Anthony Martial’s possible lay-off from a thigh injury could scupper Alexis Sanchez’s proposed move to Inter this summer.

What’s the word?

Reports in recent weeks had suggested the Italian giants have been in talks with United over taking Sanchez to Italy, despite the Red Devils already losing Romelu Lukaku to the Nerazzurri earlier this month.

Now, The Guardian claim the Chilean’s loan switch could be in jeopardy if the results of a scan confirm that Martial has suffered a serious thigh injury.

The report adds the Red Devils were expected to “resume discussions” with Inter over Sanchez on Monday, and the “major stumbling block” surrounding a potential deal is over how much of the winger’s salary the Italian side would have to pay.

Swallowing their pride

To Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s credit, he has certainly embraced the idea of getting United back to their roots of relying on young stars who are hungry for success. The Red Devils allowing Lukaku to leave earlier this summer, and the departures of the likes of Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera this calendar year, provide compelling evidence of the manager’s intent to refresh the squad.

But Martial’s potential lay-off really puts things into perspective for the club. Losing the Frenchman would leave just Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Sanchez as United’s sole striker options. Solskjaer’s admirable wish to move on the latter for his extortionate wages and poor form is entirely understandable as he looks to cleanse the squad of overpaid and under-performing stars.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

However, United simply don’t have the numbers to cope with many injuries this season, and despite the criticism of Sanchez, he remains a proven player on his day. If Martial faces any real lay-off whatsoever, the Red Devils must simply swallow their pride at wanting him out the door, and welcome him back into the team at least until January, when they can dip their toes into the transfer market once more.

Southampton’s Angus Gunn should have made the England squad over Tom Heaton

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

When Gareth Southgate named his England squad for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo, there were a few names on the list who caused eyebrows to be raised – there were also some notable exclusions.

Jesse Lingard included? Really? The Manchester United man has four goals and three assists in his last 31 Premier League appearances!

No Kyle Walker? For a man with 48 caps to his name, it seems strange to leave him out for no apparent reason.

Tyrone Mings also made the squad – deservedly for his efforts in the Championship last term, although he hasn’t set the world alight in the Premier League so far in 2019/20.

Nevertheless, it is another Aston Villa player who definitely should have been left out of Southgate’s squad in favour of Southampton glovesman Angus Gunn.

Tom Heaton.

Granted, the 33-year-old already has three caps for the Three Lions and is a familiar face in the senior squad, but his inclusion over Gunn makes little sense.

In terms of longevity, the Saints man would represent the better long-term option for England at just 23 years of age – getting him involved in the side now would be invaluable for his development.

Where Gunn does have that room to develop and grow, Heaton is arguably the finished product at 33 – is there really any value in having him around the squad when it seems likely that Jordan Pickford will play in both games?

Additionally, Gunn has had the harder start to the new Premier League season having faced Liverpool and Manchester United, but has still helped his side pick up four points – Heaton has earned a point less with Villa despite facing Crystal Palace, Everton, Tottenham and Bournemouth.

In his four starts so far, Gunn has kept a clean sheet and made 15 saves whilst conceding six goals.

Heaton also has one clean sheet and has also conceded six, but has made only 10 saves.

With everything taken into account, Southgate may have made a logistical mistake in picking Heaton over Gunn.

Newcastle have a gem: Fabian Schar wows for Switzerland

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

£3m? For an international quality centre-back who can finish like the best number nines in the world? Yes please.

Fabian Schar’s ridiculously cheap arrival at Newcastle just begins to look even better as the days go by. In this modern footballing world of inflated transfer fees, the 27-year-old’s signing appears to be one of the shrewdest pieces of business in recent memory.

Watch Newcastle United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Schar enjoyed an impressive debut campaign on Tyneside last season, and became a real fans favourite with his penchant for the spectacular. His wonder strike against Burnley was arguably the pick of the bunch, and now he’s showing off his attacking skills for his country too.

The defender’s curling effort to cap off a fine team move rounded off an impressive individual performance against the Republic of Ireland in EURO 2020 qualifying, and it simply underlined the kind of gem the Magpies have on their hands.

Even in his younger days as an up-and-comer at Basel, Schar was renowned for his ball-playing abilities. Against Ireland, the Swiss defender showed the range of passing at his disposal.

His 88 touches were the second-highest of his entire team, whilst he boasted an impressive 82% pass accuracy. As well as his ability to play it on the ground, the 27-year-old looked just as impressive with trying more expansive passes, with only Granit Xhaka bettering his four accurate long balls.

But as a centre-back, the primary job is to defend of course. And Schar relished that battle too. The 6 foot 2 star won possession back eight times for Switzerland – a joint game-high. As was the case at Newcastle last season, the defender excelled in imposing himself on the opposition striker and defending on the front-foot.

If Schar continues to perform like this, then some of European football’s biggest sides will begin to take more notice. But for now, Newcastle simply have to revel in having a gem who can seemingly do it all. Defend, pass and score goals. If the Magpies could field an entire eleven composed of just the Swiss ace, Steve Bruce may well go ahead and do it.
