After a laboured start to the season, Surrey are beginning to click into gear just at the right time. It remains premature to propound the idea of a promotion assault – there is still significant ground to be made up yet – but all the pieces are undoubtedly coming together.A combination of a Gloucestershire rear-guard and a sterile surface derailed what could have been a second Championship win of the campaign last week but there should be no such hindrances this time around; Surrey require just 21 runs to win with ten wickets in hand on the final day.From the moment the visitors had forged a 269-run first innings advantage early on Tuesday morning, this game took an inevitable path. Scott Elstone and then David Wainwright produced late resistance to delay the inexorable and although it would be stretching it to say that Surrey will be denied the points again, they were left frustrated that their toil didn’t yield victory within three days: it wouldn’t have flattered the visitors in the slightest.If, the formalities are completed tomorrow, as expected, it would be Surrey’s first victory away from home in four-day cricket since September 2011. Once the home sides’ batting defects were ruthlessly exposed on the first day, Surrey assumed consummate control of proceedings and their stranglehold hasn’t waned throughout. Conversely, it imparts Derbyshire’s woes.Graeme Welch’s side, who only last year were in the top tier, remain lingering towards the foot of Division Two. Last week’s win at Grace Road has proved only to be a momentary respite from their struggles. Only a defiant innings from Elstone and No. 8 Wainwright, in the face of adversity, prevented defeat without even a flicker of opposition as every passing wicket prompted clumps of locals to head home to avoid the rush-hour traffic.While Derbyshire were incompetent, Surrey were clinically efficient. In the end, tenacity and perseverance bore fruit.That said, Derbyshire showed very little stomach for the fight and the necessary resolve to occupy the crease on a track that contained very few, if any, demons. North, having launched Ansari over midwicket for six, rashly drove expansively next ball but left a gaping hole between bat and pad; Madsen’s dismissal was equally as tame, popping Batty to the man under the helmet on the off-side.Elstone showed all his tenacity and propensity in a punchy innings before a lack of concentration some him miss a straight one from Batty a couple short of a much deserved fifty. Having just signed a new contract at the club, Elstone is proving to be a shrewd acquisition but his toil was one of very few positives to take for the hosts on a pitch that, if they had managed to wrestle a lead of 100, they would have been in with a decent shout.Chris Tremlett demonstrated that it remained true and that clean striking was evidently possible. He continued where he had left off on Monday with a couple of lofty blows off the bustling Taylor as Surrey’s lead stretched past the 250 mark before Jade Dernbach’s leg stump was sent cartwheeling by Footitt; his fourth of the innings. He’ll need to repeat those exploits and then some on Wednesday.

وكانت قرعة الدوري المصري 2023\2024 التي أجريت مساء اليوم الإثنين بالعاصمة الإدارية الجديدة، قد أسفرت عن مواجهة بيراميدز للزمالك في افتتاح مشوار الفريقين.

وقال فتح الله في تصريحات تلفزيونية بفضائية “أون تايم سبورتس 2”: “أتمنى بداية قوية لنا وأن نقدم موسمًا جيدًا، سنة عن سنة نتحسن، وحفل القرعة اليوم كان يليق باسم مصر”.

وأضاف: “الزمالك فريق كبير ومحترم ومنافس قوي، لكن الفريق لم يدعم بصفقات، الزمالك ليس جديدًا علينا نعرفهم جيدًا”.

وأردف: “مواجهة فريق قوي في البداية، تجعلك تدخل في الأجواء أسرع وأقوى، ونتمنى أن تكون البداية قوية لنا”.

واستطرد: “نتمنى حصد لقب الدوري، لكن الزمالك والأهلي منافسين دائمين على البطولة، وعندما يضعنا الناس في هذه المكانة فهذا يدل على أننا نسير في الطريق الصحيح وهذا شيء يضع علينا ضغوطًا ويشرفنا، لكن كل الأندية أيضًا دعمت لسنا نحن فقط”.

واستكمل: “محمد رضا بوبو ومحمد حمدي قد لا يُشاركا أمام الزمالك بسبب تعرضهما للإصابة، غدًا سنعرف موعد عودتهما”.

وواصل: “التنافس في الملعب، لكن الذي أضمنه أننا جميعًا سنبذل قصارى جهدنا، وسيكون أمامنا هدف وسنقاتل عليه”.

واستطرد: “حتى لو ظل قيد الزمالك متوقف 3 سنوات، سيظل يُنافس على الدوري، الزمالك يمتلك قاعدة جماهيرية كبيرة وتاريخ عريق وآخر 3 سنوات حصد الدوري مرتين، وسيظل منافسًا”.

وأتم: “محمود صابر حتى الآن في حساباتنا ومعنا، لكن لا نعلم ماذا سيحدث حتى غلق باب القيد، هو لاعب كبير وسيكون مستقبل مصر”. موعد انطلاق الدوري

وكان أحمد دياب رئيس رابطة الأندية قد أعلن عن الكثير من التطورات خلال كلمته بحفل قرعة الدوري الليلة.

وأكد دياب أن بطولة الدوري ستبدأ يوم 18 سبتمبر، وستنتهي البطولة يوم 30 يوليو، مشددًا على أنه سيكون منتظمًا أكثر من الموسم الماضي.

وأتم دياب: “ننتظر القرار النهائي بشأن المقترح الذي تقدمنا به للجهات الأمنية، وهو الحصول على نصف السعة في الدور الأول، وفي الدور الثاني السعة الكاملة، لكن حتى الآن الموافقة التي نملكها هي حضور 10 آلاف، وقبل الدوري بـ 72 ساعة سنصل لقرار نهائي في هذا الشأن”.

Hampshire’s last-wicket pair of James Tomlinson and David Balcombe repaired a middle-order collapse to thwart Gloucestershire on a day of fluctuating fortunes.Hampshire raced to 69 for 1 and then 144 for 2 after being put in, only for Liam Norwell to induce a slide in which Hampshire lost seven wickets for 38 in 12.1 overs.Norwell took four quick wickets with his medium pace before Tomlinson and Balcombe, not renowned as batsmen, came together in an unbroken stand of 69 for the last wicket as Gloucestershire ran out of ideas.At the close, delayed by rain earlier in the day, second-placed Hampshire had made 251 for 9 from 80 overs with Tomlinson 33 not out and Balcombe unbeaten with 38, leaving Gloucestershire a chance to reflect on why they had been unable to finish off their good work on a helpful pitch.The rain wiped out the entire first session, meaning play did not start until 1.10pm after an early lunch. Gloucestershire captain Alex Gidman noted the green tinge to the wicket and the Ageas Bowl’s reputation for aiding the bowlers and chose to field first.Gidman must have starting to regret his decision quickly as Michael Carberry and Jimmy Adams put on 69 in 21.4 overs for the first wicket without alarms. Briggs went to another slip catch by Chris Dent and Will Gidman returned to dismiss Abbott in identical fashion.At 182 for 9, Hampshire were in disarray and the end looked close as Balcombe was joined at the crease by Tomlinson. Viewed as an old-fashioned No. 11, Tomlinson nevertheless put on 60 with Briggs against Surrey last time out and he and Balcombe defied Gloucestershire despite the many bowling changes made in a frantic last 18 overs of the day by Alex Gidman.Neither batsman looked in any trouble as they complied their face-saving partnership and at the close Tomlinson was nine runs short of a career-best while Balcombe struck Norwell for successive boundaries on the way to his best score of the season.Norwell finished the day with figures of 4 for 87 but they might have been better had it not been for the defiance of the last-wicket pair who plundered runs from him as play drifted beyond 7pm and the attack visibly tired.

Tricolor começa melhor
O São Paulo começou a partida mostrando que queria vencer.E, com Pablo, Pato, Hernanes e Tchê Tchê inspirados e comandando o setor ofensivo, o Tricolor logo chegou ao gol que abriu o placar. Aos 9 minutos, após troca de passes entre Hudson e Hernanes pela direita, o Profeta cruzou rasteiro, Pablo se adiantou sobre Antônio Carlos e tocou para o fundo do gol de Weverton.

Com problemas na saída de bola, o Palmeiras pouco conseguiu criar. Enquanto isso, o São Paulo seguia comandando o jogo, mas já sem aparecer tanto no ataque. Nos 20 minutos iniciais, o Tricolor chegou a ter quase 65% de posse de bola.

Pablo preocupa
A partir da segunda metade do primeiro tempo, o Palmeiras conseguiu equilibrar a partida e chegou uma vez com perigo com Gustavo Scarpa, obrigando o goleiro Tiago Volpi a fazer grande defesa. Mas foi só.

Ainda antes do intervalo, uma cena preocupou o torcedor são-paulino. Aos 40 minutos, após uma disputa pelo alto com Thiago Santos, Pablo caiu de mau jeito sobre a própria perna e ficou sentindo muitas dores. Foi atendido e acabou voltando para o jogo, mas foi substituído no intervalo.

Goleiros brilham
A segunda etapa começou com jogo aberto e boas oportunidades para os dois times. Mas ninguém conseguiu marcar graças a ótimas intervenções dos goleiros. O primeiro a brilhar foi Volpi. Logo no primeiro minuto, Deyverson pegou uma sobra de bola e, quase na pequena área, acabou finalizando em cima do goleiro tricolor, que saiu muito bem e defendeu o chute com o peito.

Depois, foi a vez de Weverton aparecer. O palmeirense fez duas grandes defesas num mesmo lance. Primeiro, defendeu um chute de Raniel. No rebote, Reinaldo finalizou de fora da área e o goleiro espalmou para escanteio. Aos 14, nova boa intervenção do palmeirense. Pato recebeu pela esquerda e chutou colocado. Weverton espalmou novamente para a linha de fundo.

Azar de Volpi, sorte de Dudu
Com a partida mais equilibrada, o São Paulo recuou e deixou o Palmeiras com a bola, tentando se aproveitar dos contra-ataques. Mas quem se aproveitou do momento foi o Verdão. Aos 25 minutos, Dudu recebeu na direita, na linha da grande área e finalizou. A bola desviou em Reinaldo, encobriu Volpi e pegou na trave. Na volta, pegou nas costas do goleiro e entrou no gol. 1 a 1 no placar e o líder Palmeiras mantém a invencibilidade do Brasileiro, enquanto o São Paulo segue com problemas nos clássicos.
