An unbeaten century by Suzie Bates led New Zealand to a comfortable eight-wicket win against Australia in the first match of the Rose Bowl at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Chasing 249, New Zealand lost opener Lucy Doolan in the seventh over, but Bates found solid support from Amy Satterthwaite as the two put on 168 runs for the second wicket at almost a run a ball. Satterthwaite fell for 98, but Bates carried on, got to her century with a boundary, and completed the chase in the 45th over in the company of Sara McGlashan.Australia had earlier chosen to bat and had slipped to 4 for 97 in the 20th over with Rachel Candy picking up two big wickets of Jess Cameron and Lisa Sthalekar. Opening batsman Meg Lanning, who was unbeaten at this stage, stabilised the innings with a half-century, but three more wickets fell for nine runs reducing Australia to 7 for 157. An 80-run recovery stand between Jodie Fields, who scored 51, and Erin Osborne took the team to relative safety and helped them set a competitive target. Candy was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 35.The second ODI of the four match series will be played on December 14 in Sydney.

The South African selectors are considering naming a replacement player as cover.Kallis is suffering from a grade 1 hamstring strain which was sustained after he bowled 3.3 overs in the first innings on Thursday. He left the field immediately and did not return for the rest of the day but was cleared to bat. He could only come in at No.7, because of the time off the field but was only ready to bat at No.9. Kallis spent two hours at the crease, in which he scored 58 off 93 balls, 46 of which were in boundaries.”Our physiotherapist worked on him and it had gone so well that by the time he went out to bat, most symptoms had almost been eliminated,” Mohammad Moosajee, South Africa’s team manager, said.”With the time he spent batting, it would be fair to say that he aggravated his injury. He will also bat in the second innings and so there is no guarantee he will be fit for the third Test because of the turnaround of only three days. The selectors are looking at the possibility of sending out somebody else as cover.”Kallis was South Africa’s third highest run-scorer and he looked only mildly uncomfortable throughout his innings. At times, he could only walk between the wickets although he was able to jog through some singles. He will not field at all. As a result, he will only be able to bat at No.7 again in the second knock.It will mean a battle through pain again, something Kallis has become used to. His inexperience may be the reason the selectors are looking at someone else. With that in mind, one of Ashwell Prince, Justin Ontong or Neil McKenzie could be recalled in an emergency. If South Africa are looking for a seam-bowling all-rounder, they do not have much to choose from. Em 119 jogos vestindo a camisa rubro-negra, o meio-campista marcou 34 gols, tendo conquistado um título: o Carioca em 2017. Ele foi vice da Copa do Brasil, Sul-Americana e Brasileirão.

Diego está de férias fora do Rio de Janeiro e é aguardado na reapresentação do elenco na primeira semana de janeiro. O time fará parte da pré-temporada nos Estados Unidos, onde disputará a Florida Cup, enfrentando o Ajax, da Holanda, no dia 10, e o Eintracht Frankfurt, da Alemanha, no dia 12. Sri Lanka will be without batsman Kumar Sangakkara for the remainder of their tour of Australia, after scans revealed a fracture to his left hand, where he was hit by a Mitchell Johnson bouncer during the Boxing Day Test. Sangakkara will undergo surgery this evening and will be unavailable for six to eight weeks, as he recovers. Fast bowler Chanaka Welegedara has also been ruled out of the Sydney Test with a hamstring injury, and will likely fly home, having not been named in the limited overs squads.Sri Lanka are also waiting on the fitness of wicketkeeper Prasanna Jayawardene and fast bowler Nuwan Kulasekara, who are both suffering from hairline fractures. Jayawardene sustained his injury during Sri Lanka’s first innings, when Johnson hit him on the right thumb. Kulasekara meanwhile had been complaining of soreness in the ribs after being hit there while batting on the fifth day in Hobart, before scans on Thursday revealed he had a cracked rib.Sangakkara was hit on the bottom hand while fending a short ball after lunch, and immediately called for the physiotherapist upon crossing for a single. The removal of his glove revealed significant swelling on the bottom of his index finger, and he left the field for the hospital soon after.The three injuries in the game meant that Sri Lanka only had eight batsmen who could complete their innings in the second dig. Their innings ended at 103 on day three, when they slipped to an innings and 201-run defeat.
