Tim Bresnan has been ruled out of England’s first warm-up game in the UAE after suffering discomfort in his right elbow

Tim Bresnan has been ruled out of England’s first warm-up game in the UAE after suffering discomfort in his right elbow. Bresnan, who currently stands 12th in the ICC Test bowler rankings, underwent surgery on the elbow just over a month ago and reported soreness in the nets on Wednesday. As a consequence, he sat out training on Thursday and Friday and won’t be risked for the match against an ICC Affiliate and Associate XI starting on Saturday. “Tim Bresnan, in particular, has still got a bit of swelling in his elbow as a reaction to his operation, so he’s not quite ready yet,” Andrew Strauss, the England captain, said. “We’re aiming for the second warm-up game with him.”With just two warm-ups games scheduled before the Test series Bresnan’s chances of proving his match fitness are receding. His absence will give either Chris Tremlett or Steven Finn an opportunity to challenge for a Test place, although Tremlett is also suffering from an eye infection which has hindered his preparation.”[He has a bit of a sore eye at the moment, but that is nothing of great concern to us. It’s just niggles more than anything,” Strauss said.Neither Tremlett or Finn offer Bresnan’s prowess with the bat, however. Bresnan is currently averaging 45.42 with the bat and 23.60 with the ball and has helped England to victory in all 10 of the Tests in which he has played.Finn, at least, believes that a month playing in New Zealand just before Christmas should have provided excellent preparation for this tour. While conditions in UAE are unlikely to provide as much assistance as Finn enjoyed in New Zealand, he believes the slow pace of the pitches in both countries will be similar.”It was a great experience for me, and I feel like I’ve learned a lot from it,” Finn said. “The wickets were quite slow and low, so it was good to go and get some practice on those sorts of wickets.”It was just a good chance for me to go and do a lot of bowling. I bowled 140 overs in the four games. It was something I really wanted to do personally, and the satisfaction I got from going over there was great.”

Larghi questiona gol irregular do Bahia e aprova desempenho do Atlético-MG

Nosso time ainda está reformulando, entrosamento ainda tá acontecendo.

O comandante rubro-negro manteve o mistério no ataque.

Vamos procurar sempre fazer a melhor escolha.

O quanto pesa o “fator casa”?

O momento é outro, a competição é outra.

Albie Morkel leads Titans to tense win

A round-up of the latest round of matches of the SuperSport Series 2011-12

ESPNcricinfo staff29-Jan-2012Albie Morkel’s all-round performance helped Titans leapfrog Cape Cobras to the top of the table with a tense two-wicket win in Paarl. On a usually benign pitch, Cobras chose to bat but were in early trouble. Morkel removed Andrew Puttick and Stiaan van Zyl in the first over and Cobras struggled to recover from there. Zero for 2 became 71 for 5 as the line up succumbed to the left-arm seam of Rowan Richards. Richard Levi’s 64 helped hold the innings together and Robin Peterson batted well with the tail to end on an undefeated 58, and take Cobras to 199. Richards finished with 5 for 49, while Morkel took 3 for 42.Titans’ top-five batsmen responded better. The captain Martin van Jaarsveld’s 71 took his team to the brink of overtaking Cobras and they should have gone on to score many more. However, their last five wickets fell for just 19 runs as Peterson celebrated his Test call-up by ripping through the lower order. He finished with 5 for 60 and Titans were bowled out for 207, only eight runs ahead.Cobras batted poorly once again in the second innings and were bundled out for 165. van Zyl’s 67 was the top score on a card that had eight batsmen out in single figures. Peterson’s 30 at No. 8 gave Cobras something to bowl at as they attempted to defend 158. Henry Davids was the wrecker this time, taking 5 for 22.Johann Louw sent early shockwaves through the Titans line-up when he removed both their openers, including Jacques Rudolph who moved back to the top of the order, in consecutive overs. In the 26th over, the Titans were 68 for 6 and victory seemed too far away to think about. Tumelo Bodibe and Morkel combined for a seventh-wicket stand of 53. Morkel’s unbeaten 54 ended up being a match-winning knock as he defied the Cobras attack and took Titans ahead by the slenderest of margins – 1.4 points.Weather intervened in the mid-table tussle between Knights and Lions at the Wanderers. Lions will be more thankful for the rain as they were facing defeat on the final afternoon. After choosing to bat Knights, at 192 for 7 on the first day, were in danger of posting only a little over 200. Former Lions allrounder Werner Coetsee resisted his old team with a patient 78. Lower-order partnerships of 68 for the eighth wicket and 78 for the ninth also frustrated Lions, who eventually bowled the Knights out for 338.Johann van der Wath claimed three wickets to leave Lions stumbling on 52 for 4 in their first innings. But a pair of old hands rode to their rescue. Neil McKenzie, who scored 73, and Zander de Bruyn, who ended on 92, shared a 162-run partnership for the fifth-wicket to ensure Lions came within 58 runs of their opposition total. With no tail wag, Lions were bowled out for 280.Knights attempted to up the scoring-rate as they looked to bat Lions out of the match in their second innings. Reeza Hendricks’ 75, Boeta Dippenaar’s 41 and Ryan McLaren’s 49-ball 41 allowed them to declare on 264 for 8, setting the Lions 323 to win.Quinton Friend’s double-strike in the first eight overs left Lions on 18 for 2 in reply. Medium-pacer Malusi Siboto also inflicted twin punctures on Lions, and Friend claimed one more to leave them at 83 for 5, when no further play was possible. In Durban, Lance Klusener earned his first win as a franchise coach as Dolphins beat Warriors by 227 runs.Vaughn van Jaarsveld’s 106 and Imran Khan’s 92 were the major contributors to the Dolphins’ first-innings total of 321. Simon Harmer claimed 6 for 94 in that innings while Wayne Parnell went wicketless. Imran Tahir’s 5 for 67 helped bowl out Warriors for 211 in reply, 110 runs behind.David Miller finally found form in Dolphins’ second innings, making an undefeated 71. Parnell could say the same, having taken 3 for 43. Dolphins declared on 275 for 8 and set Warriors 386 to win.Warriors were bowled out for 158, their only significant partnership being 85 between Arno Jacobs and Craig Thyssen for the sixth wicket. Left-armer Mthokozisi Shezi took 5 for 26, Kyle Abbot claimed 3 for 20 and Tahir took his match haul to seven with 2 for 91. Dolphins, however, remain at the bottom of the table.

Kallis unconvinced by ball-tracking technology

A review today sparked another debate about the Decision Review System, with Jacques Kallis saying he “is not convinced by the predictive path” of the delivery shown by the ball-tracking technology

A review in the penultimate over of the third day’s play sparked another debate about the Decision Review System, with Jacques Kallis saying he “is not convinced by the predictive path” of the delivery shown by the ball-tracking technology. Doug Bracewell said members of the New Zealand squad were also “a bit iffy” about the accuracy of the DRS.The incident under scrutiny was an lbw appeal off Bracewell against Jacques Rudolph which was upheld by the umpire Aleem Dar. After consultation with Kallis, Rudolph asked for a review and the pitch map showed the ball had landed outside leg stump, resulting in Dar’s decision being overturned and Rudolph surviving.Bracewell was surprised by the decision as, to the naked eye, the ball appeared to have pitched on leg stump. “I thought it was pretty dead. I was going for the inswinger and trying to hit him on the pads and I think everyone thought it was out,” Bracewell said. “I think they made a mistake [with the pitch map]. I don’t see how the ball swinging back in can pitch outside leg and hit middle stump.”Kallis said he was prompted to persuade Rudolph to seek a review because he had faced Bracewell for most of the day and noticed that he occasionally delivered the ball from a slightly wider position. “I thought the one thing it might have been was that it could have pitched outside leg, coming from that angle,” Kallis said. “Fortunately, I was right.”Kallis agreed that in asking for the review he brought to light two major concerns about the DRS. Is there a strategic way to use the system and is it performing its primary function, which is to minimise blatantly incorrect decisions? The answer to both, according to Kallis, is yes.Because South Africa were in a dominant position at the time of the appeal, Kallis said they were able to ask for a review of a decision they might otherwise have accepted. “We had two reviews and I thought this [Rudolph] is a big batter so with those 50-50 calls I said to him, it’s worth a call,” Kallis said.”That system is there to take out the shocker. Maybe with your first review, it’s 50-50. Generally captains will say, ‘Let’s take a risk,’ and then the second one you use a lot better. You probably take a little more of risk on that first one.”Kallis also stressed that the main function of the DRS was to eliminate obvious errors, because he remembered playing “in the old time when you got given a bad decision and it can change careers.” He said that he “understands” there was a place for a review system, but remained sceptical on its exactness.”How accurate it is, I don’t know. Have decisions improved? I think they have but we have got to accept that there are probably one or two that, as cricketers, we will think ‘I’m not so sure’, but maybe that’s an improvement on absolute shockers which is what you wanted to take out of the game. We are getting that right to a degree but I am not convinced how accurate it really is.”Like many of his Indian counterparts – who have opposed the DRS in its current form – Kallis said what bothers him and his team-mates is the legitimacy of the predictive path, because of height and line.On day two, South Africa reviewed an lbw appeal which had been turned down off Imran Tahir against Daniel Vettori. The ball-tracker showed that the delivery would have missed leg stump comfortably, which seemed unrealistic because of the amount of turn on it. “A lot of us looked at Dan’s one yesterday and it was closer than what I thought the DRS had it,” Kallis said. “It might not have been hitting or it might have been clipping leg, and the right decision was made in the end but [showing that it was] missing leg by that much surprised all of us.”It is instances like these, where the predicted path differs vastly from what is expected that has caused “plenty” of members of the South African team to be concerned about the system. “Sometimes when it hits the batter and you think that’s close and it ends up being a long way away or vice versa,” Kallis said. “I don’t think there are any guys that are 100% sure that that thing is as accurate as they want to make it out to be. They keep saying it but I’m not so sure and I think 99% of cricketers will say that.”South Africa, including Kallis, accept the system as it stands but Kallis said he believes the players should be allowed to speak their minds about the DRS. “We are still allowed our opinion as cricketers and we are still allowed to say how we feel sometimes decisions go.”Kallis also had a suggestion to improve the system. “Maybe what they can do is have the review system that shows where it pitched and where it hits and let the third umpire make the call from there so you still give benefit of the doubt to the batter,” he said, stressing that the need for the on-field umpires is still there despite the technology at the game’s disposal.”You don’t want to take the umpires’ job away but you do want the right decision. The predicted path, for me, is the worry. The Snickometer and Hot Spot and everything else is pretty decent.”Edited by Abhishek Purohit

Agora é focar no Brasileiro.

Cabeça erguida, agora é focar apenas no Brasileiro. O resto tentei no instinto.

Joseph haul leaves Glamorgan facing uphill battle

Robbie Joseph claimed six wickets in Glamorgan’s first innings as Leicestershire set the visitors a testing target despite being bowled out for 110

06-Apr-2012
ScorecardRobbie Joseph left Glamorgan’s batsmen shell-shocked on his Leicestershire debut, claiming 6 for 47 to put his side into a match-winning position at Grace Road. The Welsh side were routed for 124, giving Leicestershire a first-innings lead of 125, and though Glamorgan struck back to bowl out the hosts for 110 in their second innings they closed the day at 21 for 1 as they chased a challenging victory target of 236. Once again Joseph was the wicket taker, bowling Gareth Rees for 4.Joseph, 30, who was released by Kent at the end of last season, has joined Leicestershire on a short-term contract. He could hardly have made a more impressive start and Leicestershire head coach Phil Whitticase said: “He is enjoying it here and gives our attack that bit of extra pace.”Glamorgan began the second day at a perilous 25 for 5 with the possibility of being asked to follow on staring them in the face. Some steely batting by the tailenders helped them avoid that ignominy – but not before two early alarms. Jim Allenby and Mark Wallace both fell to the impressive Joseph in his first three overs of the day, leaving Glamorgan at 34 for 7 with another 66 runs needed to prevent the follow-on.But nightwatchman Dean Cosker, along with Graham Wagg, Robert Croft and Huw Waters, added 90 more runs for the last three wickets. Wagg led the way with a belligerent 42 off 60 balls, hitting seven fours before edging to wicketkeeper Ned Eckersley to give Joseph his sixth wicket and bring Glamorgan’s innings to an end.Leicestershire’s second-innings batting performance showed just how much they needed their three-figure advantage. With the ball continuing to seam and swing around, the hosts were dismissed for 110 in 42.4 overs as the Glamorgan seamers revelled in the helpful conditions.Only two batsmen made it to double figures, Jacques du Toit top-scoring with 40 and opener Matt Boyce making 11, while the extras column contributed 18.Wagg – who bagged the big wicket of Ramnaresh Sarwan, bowling him with a well disguised slower ball – took 3 for 29, while Moises Henriques claimed 3 for 25.It was Henriques who brought Du Toit’s 67-ball innings to an end, finding some extra bounce to have him caught at gully. Unlike the first innings, there was little resistance by Leicestershire’s middle- and late-order batsmen this time, with the last four wickets falling for 25 runs in 11 overs. But Glamorgan were still set a challenging victory target of 236 and the early loss of opener Rees, bowled by Joseph in the fourth over, made the task look even more difficult.
