Nottinghamshire will begin the defence of their County Championship title against Hampshire at Trent Bridge on April 14 after the fixtures for the 2011 English domestic season were confirmed. The campaign will be a week old by then, with the first round of four-day matches starting on April 8 while the CB40 begins on April 24 and the Friends Provident t20 on June 1.The FP t20 finals day will take place at Edgbaston on August 27, while the season will come to its conclusion on September 17 with the final of the CB40 at Lord’s. Next season that match will be a daytime encounter after criticism that the floodlit fixture in 2010 made it tough for fans to travel home and didn’t take into account the early autumn weather.The season will actually begin in Abu Dhabi when Nottinghamshire face MCC as the game is taken to the Middle East for the second season running. Nottinghamshire clinched the Championship title with the final ball of the season when they claimed their third wicket against Lancashire to secure a vital bonus point and deny Somerset.Worcestershire and Sussex, who were promoted to Division One, are both in action in the opening round of four-day games. The FP t20 will begin with a rerun of the 2010 final as Hampshire, who won by losing fewer wickets, take on Somerset and the group stages will again be played in a concentrated period in June and July before quarter finals from August 6-8.Counties are again left in the far from ideal situation where they will need to switch back to Championship mode in the midst of the t20 qualify stage. Attempts to restructure the domestic season in time for 2011 were shelved earlier this year with counties concerned they were losing valuable time to market and promote the campaign. Plans are in place to alter the structure from 2012, but next season is likely to be as difficult to follow as the last one.2011 key dates

The MCC World Cricket Committee has recommended that the laws of the game be amended in a bid to rid the sport of corruption, and has called for the use of lie detector tests to reinforce the need for transparency in the wake of the spot-fixing scandal that erupted during Pakistan’s tour of England in August.Following a two-day meeting in Perth ahead of the third Ashes Test, the club’s working party, including two former Ashes-winning captains in Steve Waugh and Mike Brearley, issued a statement containing a wide range of proposals including “the legalising and regulating of betting markets in India as proposed by the Delhi Court; the length of bans; non-selection of tainted players; the possible use of lie detector tests; the provision of integrity officers; and the inclusion of anti-corruption clauses in all professional playing contracts in all countries.””The greatest issue facing the game right now is match-fixing,” said Waugh. “How can we make players more accountable for their actions? Personally, I think if you’ve not done anything wrong, why wouldn’t you want to have a lie detector test? You can’t make it compulsory but like I said, if you’ve got nothing to hide, why wouldn’t you take it? If we sit back and don’t do anything about corruption, it’s going to get worse.”In its statement, the committee also complimented the ICC and its Anti-Corruption & Security Unit (ACSU) for its work to clean up the sport, but urged the game’s governing body to commit more resources – and increased powers – to tackle the single biggest menace to the integrity of cricket.”The education of players should not be a meaningless formality; the message should be pressed home with regularity by figures known and respected by the players,” the statement read. “Furthermore, the committee believes that team captains – as enshrined in the Laws and Spirit of Cricket – should accept greater responsibility for the conduct of their players.”Speaking on the eve of the Perth Test, England’s captain, Andrew Strauss gave a cautious welcome to the notion of introducing lie detectors to the game. “That’s hard for me to answer at this stage,” he said. “I don’t know about the accuracy of lie detector tests. But what I do know, and is probably more important, is that we don’t want the whiff of anything suspicious going on in the game.”We’ve seen how disruptive and detrimental to the game of cricket it is,” added Strauss. “The devil of all these things is in the detail. If we have to take extreme measures in order to be 100% confident the game is being played in the right spirit, then I’d certainly be happy to do that.”I’d have to think about the arguments [for lie detector tests] one side and another first. But the principle, of having 22 guys on the pitch that the supporters are absolutely 100% certain are playing the game for the right reasons, is a good thing.”

Lesões, suspensões e convocações para seleções nacionais tornaram-se algo comum para o São Paulo nesta temporada. Passadas 21 partidas em 2018 contando Campeonato Paulista e Copa do Brasil, o Tricolor ainda não teve todo o seu elenco à disposição para nem um jogo sequer. Já o zagueiro Anderson Martins, um dos oito reforços contratados pelo Tricolor para esta temporada, sofre com dores na região dorsal desde a fase de classificação do estadual e já desfalcou o São Paulo em 12 jogos. Embora não seja titular da equipe, a ausência do defensor em tantas partidas preocupa os são-paulinos. Na última quinta (5), o zagueiro retornou ao campo, mas não trabalhou com o restante do elenco.

Fora a dupla, o clube tem sofrido com constantes lesões. Valdívia, Reinaldo, Arboleda, Sidão, Jucilei e Lucas Fernandes foram alguns dos nomes que passaram pelo departamento médico por algumas semanas e desfalcaram o São Paulo. O zagueiro Rodrigo Caio e o meio-campista Cueva costumam ser convocados, respectivamente, pelas seleções brasileira e peruana e, inclusive, desfalcaram o Tricolor na reta final do Paulistão. Ahmed was unbeaten on 39 as Denmark were bowled out for a paltry 112 in just under 42 overs.That score was never going to be enough to challenge PNG and though they lost Asad Vala in the first over, Tony Ura and Amini put on a solid unbeaten 114-run partnership to carry PNG home. Only Sultan Ahmed, with his 30, offered some resistance as Usman Shuja, Orlando Baker and Asif Khan picked up seven wickets between them.USA’s chase started disastrously as medium-pacer Rajesh Kumar picked up three key wickets and ran out Sushil Nadkarni to leave USA reeling at 16 for 6 in the eighth over. However, No. 9 Usman Shuja (43) and No. 10 Asif Khan (31) held firm to carry USA home. The duo added an unbeaten 71 runs for the ninth wicket to anchor USA to victory with 16 overs remaining.

As falhas de Antônio Carlos nos jogos contra Corinthians e Boca Juniors não farão o zagueiro perder sua vaga como titular na estreia do Palmeiras no Brasileirão, às 20h de segunda-feira, no Estádio Nilton Santos. O técnico Roger Machado reforçou em sua entrevista coletiva desta sexta que enxerga um contexto muito mais coletivo do que individual nesses erros.

– No gol contra o Boca, não posso, posicionado, ver meu lateral tomar uma bola nas costas. Contra o Corinthians havia dois jogadores para fazer a cobertura. Se um comunica ao outro que está fechando o meio, o outro fecha o fundo e a gente minimiza o problema. Há um viés coletivo nas falhas individuais. Não há necessidade de terra arrasada. Há ajustes a serem feitos – explicou o treinador.

Roger toma o cuidado de não tirar a confiança de seus jogadores. Antônio Carlos, uma aposta sua no início do ano, vinha sendo muito elogiado até vacilar na final do Paulista.

– Eu tenho por preferência recuperar o jogador dentro do campo. Temos que perceber em que momento o atleta está, a confiança que ele tem para continuar em alto nível. Tenho o Edu Dracena à disposição, tenho outros zagueiros, mas não vejo nesse momento a obrigatoriedade de mexer e gerar uma perda maior de confiança nesse atleta (Antônio Carlos), que vem atuando muito bem, assim como o Thiago Martins – disse.

-O atleta tem que sentir (as falhas). A gente sabe como é quando a gente participa de eventos como esse dentro de um jogo. O Antônio vinha fazendo uma grande partida, assim como vem fazendo 90% de partidas seguras. É um pouco injusto a gente avaliar exclusivamente por dois eventos – completou.

Roger fez duas mudanças na equipe-base do Verdão para enfrentar o Boca: trocou Victor Luis e Willian por Diogo Barbosa e Keno, respectivamente. Foram mudanças táticas. Mudar por causa de erros cometidos recentemente não está nos planos do treinador.

A food prevention exercise by the Delhi police resulted in a severe food shortage at the Feroz Shah Kotla during the match between West Indies and South Africa. Until the late stages of the match, more than 150 service people, spectators, and media were without food due to the police crackdown. There was even the danger of the South African team going into the game without lunch.”We arrived at 12.30 and made arrangements for lunch to arrive then but it only arrived at 13.10 because of the security and police,” Mohammed Moosajee, the South African team manager, told ESPNCricinfo. West Indies, however, arrived a little after 13.00 and found their food was on time, some of them having eaten at the hotel. South Africa’s 40-minute wait, though, was much shorter than the hours other people had to endure before being allowed to eat.Trucks carrying food packs for all the service staff in the stadium, including ball boys and ushers, were turned away at the gates. Police denied them entry, effectively allowing all the food they had brought with them to go to waste. “Our vehicles were all accredited, but only two of them came in and one was turned back,” one of the catering managers at the venue said. “We were not allowed to bring anything in. The food was all cooked, but it all spoiled.”Someone else who was at risk of having his prepared food go bad was television commentator and former England opener Geoffrey Boycott, who had brought his own meal with him. He had suffered from throat cancer and caters for his specific eating needs. “I don’t eat curries, which is what they normally give you. So I bring sandwiches. Anything which is spicy just burns,” he said. Police wanted him to leave the sandwiches outside but Boycott wouldn’t budge. “I said, ‘I want to speak to the general or the brigadier, whoever’s in charge, ’cause I’m taking my bloody sandwiches in’.” An official came to Boycott’s rescue and ensured he was able to take his sandwiches with him.Fans did not go completely hungry but the usual selection of food, ranging from Indian snacks, patties, samosas, was nowhere to be found, not even in the expensive pavilion stand where tickets were close to Rs 4600. Only sponsor’s soft drinks and potato chips stalls were allowed inside the stadium. Other vendors were not allowed into the venue, something that can only be achieved as a result of weeks of planning, as is done at the IPL.An administrator with the IPL team, the Delhi Daredevils, who play their matches at the Kotla, said the franchise sets up a fully functional office at the stadium six weeks before the tournament starts. It is that office which the ICC has operated out of in the run-up to the event. They meet with the police once a week in order to brief them on what food is coming through and when to expect it. With the ICC not going into such intricate details with the security forces, they have not been able to ensure the same kind of cooperation.The food scarcity was one of several issues that the media faced. Accredited tickets did not work at the security scanners, everything from the wi-fi to the coffee machine collapsed for a few hours, and the meals for the photographers went the same way as the food for the service people. Fresh packs had to be prepared and sent to the stadium, and were eventually let in close to the end of play. Reporters who had been through matches in Dhaka, Ahmedabad and Delhi gave the Kotla the thumbs down – in overall organisation, not merely in matters pertaining to food.
