The Lowdown: Chelsea woes

Batshuayi has not always been the happiest at Chelsea, as he has been sent out on loan five times since signing from Marseille for a whopping £35.1m back in 2016.

Called ‘top class’ by Frank Lampard when he was manager at Stamford Bridge, and a ‘hero’ by Football Vlogger and Blues supporter George Benson, the striker has contributed to Premier League and FA Cup titles for Chelsea, but the summer could well be the time that he finally moves on permanently.

The Latest: Everton ‘keen’

Writing in his latest piece for TEAMtalk, transfer insider Graeme Bailey has revealed that the Goodison Park faithful, as well as Leeds United, are now ‘keen’ on signing Batshuayi this summer.

Chelsea have given the ‘green light’ for his exit, and should the Merseyside club avoid relegation from the Premier League, they could take advantage of the situation.

The Verdict: Risky

Of course, given his troubles at Chelsea, signing Batshuayi would be a risk.

However, that is not to say that it could not be a shrewd move, as he has scored a total of 165 goals for club and country combined over the course of his senior career, and at 28 years of age, still has room left to grow and really hit his prime.

It would mean that the Toffees would probably have to get rid of at least one of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison to make room for the Belgium international though, and if they do get relegated down to the Championship, any deal is likely to be cut off.

Obuya finished the job, ending unbeaten on 86 from 96 deliveries.It was an impressively assured performance from a batting line-up that was shot out for 139 in the second ODI but credit must go to the Kenya bowlers who set up the win after Afghanistan chose to bat.The visitors started well, with the openers racking up the 50 partnership inside 10 overs, before Kenya’s trio of medium-pacers – Nehemiah Odhiambo, Elijah Otieno and Thomas Odoyo – combined to derail the innings.Odhiambo had Karim Sidiq caught for 17 and Javed Ahmadi was run out two balls later. Not only that, but the report also states that it ‘seems impossible’ the Portuguese giants could now demand €40million (£33.5m) for his services, due to a dip in form. That means Wolves could sign him on the cheap.

The Verdict: Ideal Neves replacement

With Ruben Neves looking increasingly likely to leave Wolves at the end of the season, Palhinha looks like a tailor-made replacement for his compatriot.

He possesses Neves’ deep-lying expertise, enjoying an 87.4% pass completion rate in the Primeira Liga this season from that position, as well as winning 1.5 aerial duels per match.

Filling the void left in midfield will be vital if the expected exit does happen and Palhinha is surely the front-runner to solve that problem, especially if Wanderers could now sign him in a cut-price deal.

Celtic are not interested in signing Caen attacker Alexandre Mendy in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Anthony Joseph.

Ange Postecoglou is enjoying a superb first season as Hoops manager, building an impressive squad as they sit on the cusp of regaining the Premiership title.

Summer reinforcements are expected, though, and a recent claim suggests that the club could be in the market for a new striker at the end of the season.

One such player with whom they have been linked is Mendy, who has scored 16 goals in 31 appearances in French Ligue 2 for Caen in the current campaign and has been dubbed a “very strong” player in the past by his former coach Jocelyn Gourvennec.

The Verdict: Big summer ahead at Celtic

It will be interesting to see if a new striker does come in at Parkhead this summer, with Postecoglou sure to be weighing up whether or not his current options are strong enough.

Either way, it is imperative that Celtic’s squad is strengthened all over the pitch, especially with Premiership glory also set to bring automatic Champions League qualification with it.

It has been a long time since the Hoops made any kind of impact in Europe’s biggest club competition, and they will need a better squad if that is to change next season. Therefore, they should at least give stronger consideration to signing Mendy, particularly given his impressive scoring return in recent months.

MS Dhoni, the India captain, has said he will request the BCCI for some rest ahead of the tour of South Africa. India have had a busy schedule since the tour of Sri Lanka earlier in the year and Dhoni said players like himself and Suresh Raina haven’t had a break. India play a five-match ODI series against New Zealand, their last international assignment ahead of the South Africa tour, and if Dhoni’s request is accepted, he could likely be rested for that series.”If you look at the schedule players like myself and Suresh Raina have been playing non-stop cricket since the Sri Lanka tour,” Dhoni told reporters in Nagpur on the eve of the third Test against New Zealand. “We went to play in the Champions League after that and came back and played the Australia and the New Zealand series.”So there has not been enough time to switch on and switch off. We will put in a request to the board but we have to see whether senior players are available or not.”The BCCI, last month, had agreed to send some players early to South Africa to prepare for the Test series in December due to the absence of any practice games. Dhoni said the details still had to be “worked out”. The first Test begins on December 16.
