However, support from major countries has been lukewarm, and its future has been pout in more doubt with the global recession leading sponsors and media companies to review their positions.Nimbus covered the first two tournaments but withdrew ahead of the third because the absence of many leading players meant that TV revenues were disappointing.A source close to the negotiations claimed that Nimbus’ interest had been rekindled and that Kenya had been pencilled in to hold the tournament sometime in 2009.However, the international calendar is already heavy with the rescheduled Champions Trophy and Champions League as well as the ICC World Twenty20, on top of pre-arranged tours by many of those countries whose participation would be required to make the event appealing to broadcasters.

Joe Hart is already making his presence felt at Celtic and is one of the most vocal players at Parkhead, according to Kieran Devlin.

The Lowdown: Hart’s start at Celtic Park

Hart was one of 12 first-team additions at Celtic Park this summer, arriving from Tottenham in a seven-figure deal.

He has quickly become a regular under Ange Postecoglou, making eight appearances and keeping four clean sheets.

He did make a mistake against AZ Alkmaar in a Europa League qualifier, but overall he appears to have settled in nicely in Scotland, while he was recently hailed as “exceptional” by current Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson.

The Latest: Hart vocal

Devlin, who is Celtic’s correspondent for The Athletic, shared a story on Tuesday looking at Hart.

Within his report, he claimed that the 34-year-old has been one of the most vocal players in the team along with club captain Callum McGregor, including in the pre-match huddles.

McGregor was going to hand Hart the captain’s armband when subbed against St Mirren last month, but upon Postecoglou’s request, he gave it to Ryan Christie.

The Verdict: Good signs

With Scott Brown leaving in the summer, along with Kris Ajer, Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and Leigh Griffiths, who were all at the club for a long period of time, leadership is required going forward in a new-look Hoops side.

It’s good to see that Hart is already stepping up to the plate alongside McGregor in that capacity, especially with a number of the Hoops’ new additions relatively young.

Os primeiros passos do uso de árbitro de vídeo em uma Copa das Confederações vem marcando a primeira fase da edição de 2017. Após jogos serem marcados por conceitos revistos e muita polêmica, a entrada da tecnologia é vista com cautela por ex-árbitros.

Comentarista da Rede Globo, Leonardo Gaciba reconheceu uma leve evolução no recurso. Porém, crê que ainda é muito cedo para utilizá-lo em uma competição de alto nível, como uma Copa do Mundo:

-Tem de deixar bem claro que é um experimento, e esta Copa das Confederações comprovou que o uso de árbitro de vídeo ainda engatinha no futebol. Há uma leve melhora em relação ao Mundial de Clubes, mas faltam ajustes. Caso este recurso esteja na Copa de 2018, há um risco de a Fifa atropelar o processo, e corre o risco de perder um projeto interessante para salvar árbitros de erros desastrosos – afirmou, ao LANCE!

O ex-árbitro viu com ressalvas algumas mudanças de conduta nas arbitragens durante a primeira fase da Copa das Confederações:

– A impressão é de que. devido à retaguarda do vídeo, as arbitragens ficaram robotizadas, perderam a velocidade de raciocínio, de enxergar o jogo. Assistentes deixam de marcar lances banais ou impedimentos e, o que é pior, vêm acontecendo erros básicos de árbitros na Copa das Confederações. Não podem árbitro de Libertadores, como Wilmar Roldan, expulsar errado um jogador em uma partida!

O ex-árbitro Sálvio Spinola também reconhece que faltam ajustes no uso da tecnologia. No entanto, exalta o uso do vídeo para ajudar os árbitros em campo:

– Há melhoras no uso de árbitro de vídeo. Embora o recurso ainda não seja suficiente para resolver todos os problemas de arbitragem, é inegável que o vídeo legitima muito mais e corrige falhas do ser humano. Agora, ficou claro que faltam ajustes, como a Fifa tem dado prioridade – destacou, ao LANCE!.

Aos olhos do comentarista da ESPN, o recurso dá margem para novidades no apito:

– Houve uma mudança de comportamento na arbitragem. Na dúvida, os assistentes costumavam marcar impedimento. Porém, agora, vêm deixando o lance seguir e, caso haja irregularidade, o vídeo vai corrigir. Este novo cenário é válido, porque dá margem para ocorrerem mais gols nas partidas.

Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer has tipped Barry Bannan and the Owls to bounce back following their recent 3-0 loss to Plymouth Argyle.

Wednesday were easily beaten by Ryan Lowe’s side at Home Park over the weekend and Bannan particularly came in for criticism from some supporters.

That defeat leaves the Yorkshire club in 12th place in League One, but they are still just five points off first-placed Sunderland after a strong start to the season overall.

Next up is a home tie against Shrewsbury Town and Palmer is confident that Bannan and the rest of the team will perform much better this time round.

“Barry Bannan’s been arguably Sheffield Wednesday’s most consistent player over the last three or four seasons,” Palmer said in an exclusive interview with TT. “You know, he’s had a bad game, that happens. We all have a bad day at the office.

“Barry’s a very, very good Championship player, so it’s one of those games. He’ll be back next week.

“The next performance, he’ll be trying doubly hard, like they all will, to put that result behind them.”

Certainly, a player of his experience, you would expect the 31-year-old to bounce straight back following that disappointment at Home Park.

Again, overall, Wednesday have made a promising start to life in League One, so there is no need for too much criticism or panic just yet.

Sri Lanka’s president Mahinda Rajapakse has cleared the national team’s tour of Pakistan next month. The series had been confirmed by the Pakistan board last week but its status became uncertain after the Sri Lankan interim board, headed by Arjuna Ranatunga, was dissolved on Tuesday by the country’s sports minister Gamini Lokuge.Sri Lanka’s foreign minister Rohitha Bogollagama announced the decision to tour after talks with President Mahinda Rajapakse. The foreign ministry said in a statement, “Minister Bogollagama is of the view that sport is an effective means of promoting connectivity between nations and thereby enhancing friendship and mutual goodwill between countries.” The tour, it said, is scheduled to run from January 20 to February 25,Unsurprisingly, the decision has been welcomed by a Pakistan starved of top-flight, international cricket. Javed Miandad, director general PCB, asked people to come out and watch the series. “Not only the cricket fraternity but the whole of Pakistan is thankful to the Sri Lankan president for clearing their tour to Pakistan,” he told AFP”I hope more and more people come to watch Sri Lanka play in Pakistan because we want to prove to the world that Pakistan is safe and secure for cricket,” he added. His views were echoed by Shoaib Malik, Pakistan’s captain. “It’s great news. It will give us some much needed international cricket and we are determined to do well.”Though a succession of reports in recent days had cast doubts on the tour, the PCB had privately remained confident it would go ahead. Board officials were due to meet their Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) counterparts in Kuala Lumpur for an Asian Cricket Council moot and it is believed details will be finalised there on Saturday.Earlier in the day Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, said that Lokuge had assured Pakistani officials of the series receiving government clearance. “Our High Commissioner has spoken to the sports minister, who has assured him the tour is on but, under government policies, it has to be cleared by the Sri Lankan foreign ministry,” Butt told .”As is the usual practice the Sri Lankan cricket authorities have to get security clearance from their foreign office. The foreign office will in turn will seek assurances from our government for proper security arrangements to be made for the series,” he said.India had originally been scheduled to tour Pakistan early next year but called off the visit after last month’s terror attacks in Mumbai. Sri Lanka are scheduled to play three Tests and five ODIs, instead of three ODIs and a Twenty20 international as had been proposed by Pakistan originally. Though the itinerary is yet to be finalised the Tests are likely to be played in Lahore, Multan and Karachi, while the ODIs will be shared by Karachi, Lahore and possibly Faisalabad.

According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the north London outfit are already planning ahead to next summer in a bid to bolster Nuno Santo’s squad with a key addition.

Speaking on a recent episode of his ‘Here We Go’ podcast, the Italian journalist said:

“They are already looking at potential strikers for summer 2022.

“This summer they had the chance to sign a striker as a backup for Harry Kane, but they were not convinced by some [of the] players, so they decided to save their money and invest next summer on the right player.

“This is [Fabio] Paratici’s style and mentality.”

Exciting times ahead

This latest update should hardly come as a surprise, though it is one that should leave many around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium absolutely buzzing.

Spurs enjoyed a fairly successful transfer window, bringing in no fewer than five new names, three of which are expected to make their presence known sooner rather than later.

Defensive colossus Cristian Romero, the playmaking Bryan Gil and an upgrade on Serge Aurier in Emerson Royal is certainly fine business indeed.

However, the one thing they lacked was the addition of an extra forward – not just to provide valuable back-up to Kane but also to potentially partner him up top.

As per the Telegraph’s Matt Law back in July, Lilywhites boss Nuno Santo wanted to change their style of play to include a two-man attack, with Danny Ings a key target.

He went on to join Aston Villa in a £30m deal instead.

Spurs also reportedly agreed on a fee for Inter Milan talisman Lautaro Martinez but that fell through after Chelsea’s move for his strike partner Romelu Lukaku, whilst Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic and Wolves attacker Adama Traore were other names mooted throughout the window.

The fact that sporting director Fabio Paratici already knows that this is a problem is a positive thing as it means he is already planning to make amends in the coming windows.

That should leave both Nuno and the Lilywhites faithful teeming with excitement heading into 2022.

Com um jogador mais durante praticamente todo o segundo tempo, o time não conseguiu evitar o 1 a 0. Mas não há muito tempo para lamentações. No domingo, o time vai enfrentar o Corinthians, líder do Campeonato Brasileiro, e o técnico Jair Ventura já avisou que pretende utilizar os mesmos jogadores, mesmo que desgastados.

– Não temos investimento para poupar. Em 2015, o clube estava na Série B. O Botafogo é gigante, mas está voltando a brigar em cima agora. Temos que ter paciência. Não tenho esse luxo. Se poupar, fica muito difícil – admite, completando também sobre o que faltou para o time conseguir um resultado melhor na Arena Independência.
