An update has emerged on Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, regarding Leeds’ interest in his services.

What’s the talk?

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is one of the names on Leeds’ list of targets to replace Kiko Casilla, who returned to Spain earlier this week with Elche.

Victor Orta wants to bring in a back up to Illan Meslier as quickly as possible and Woodman is being looked at as a possible arrival.

Fans would love him

Leeds fans would love to have Woodman at Elland Road as he is a young, hungry, goalkeeper who could come in and provide Meslier with real competition for his place.

The Newcastle stopper has shown his class at Championship level in recent seasons whilst on loan at Swansea and he could be eager to make his mark in the Premier League.

In two seasons on loan in the second tier with the Swans, Woodman became a clean sheet king as he racked up 32 shutouts in 88 appearances – conceding 88 goals.

This highlights his consistency and reliability at the Championship level, suggesting that he has the potential to be a solid back-up option to Leeds’ French starlet. Meslier having a goalkeeper who can seriously challenge him for his place could also motivate him to up his own game.

Both players would be fighting it out to land the number one jersey and this could lead to them both working harder in training to make sure they are 100% ready to take their chance when it comes.

Former Kilmarnock boss Lee Clarke heaped praise on the talented shot-stopper. He lauded him as “outstanding” and highlighted his communication and distribution as key strengths in his game.

He told The Athletic:

“I knew he was an outstanding young keeper and had all the attributes. The tough thing was I had an experienced goalkeeper in Jamie MacDonald in the team — that was causing one or two issues in terms of what I wanted to do.

“But I knew I was bringing a talented goalkeeper in. Freddie’s communication, his shot-stopping and his distribution skills are second to none. He’s an unbelievable professional and works extremely hard at his game.”

The £5.5k-per-week beast could, therefore, be a smart addition to Marcelo Bielsa’s squad and improve the goalkeeping department, Orta should look to get a deal done.

What’s the word?

Spanish outlet Marca claimed that the Inter Milan midfielder is attracting interest from across Europe, notably from Premier League duo Spurs and Liverpool.

They go as far as suggesting that the English pair are the front-runners in the pursuit of the 24-year-old sensation.

It’s thought that there has been talk of possible bids in the region of €60m (£52m) to €70m (£60.5m), which could well eclipse the Lilywhites’ club-record fee of £55m for Tanguy Ndombele.

This is backed up by Italian newspaper La Repubblica, who claimed that the Serie A champions would only sell for the latter amount.

Lo Celso upgrade

It remains to be seen whether Spurs have the finances to make such a splash, but Barella would be quite the addition for Nuno Espirito Santo heading into next season.

If there is any Spurs player who has underperformed since arriving in N17, you could argue that Giovani Lo Celso sits atop that list, especially if he is to breakthrough as a true box-to-box option in the midgield engine room.

The Inter beast would be a considerable upgrade in the role, that’s for sure.

On the way to sealing the club’s first Serie A title in 11 years, Barella provided three goals and nine assists from midfield and ranked amongst the most consistent performers at either end of the pitch, having averaged 1.6 tackles and 1.3 key passes per game, via WhoScored.

By comparison, in the 74 appearances that Lo Celso has made since his arrival in London from Real Betis, he has only provided seven goals and four assists. Barella has arguably done better in just one season than the Argentine has across two.

Lo Celso struggled for creativity throughout 2020/21 as well, managing only 0.8 key passes per game in the Premier League.

The 29-cap Euro 2020 champion has received some glowing endorsements in the past and perhaps the biggest of them all comes from former Spurs striker Jurgen Klinsmann, who compared Barella to Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.

In quotes sourced by football.london, the German said: “He has the same function as Kante – but the Inter player is in the development phase.”

Furthermore, the Italy star has also been described as “warrior full of determination” by the legendary Arrigo Sacchi and “extraordinary” by former Cagliari coach Rolando Maran.

Valued at £58.5m by Transfermarkt, Barella’s worth is only going to increase tenfold after a season in which he clinched two major trophies across the domestic and international stage.

On the above evidence, Paratici could well land a major upgrade to Lo Celso by breaking Spurs’ club transfer record.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey, according to the print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (via Metro). 

The lowdown – Record breaker

Ramsey left Arsenal to join Juventus in the summer of 2019 after signing a pre-contract agreement. His £400,000-per-week deal made him the highest-earning British player ever on base salary (via BBC Sport).

Over his two seasons at the club, Ramsey has made 65 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals and providing as many assists (via Transfermarkt).

He’s suffered nine separate injuries in Turin, but all have been minor. None have kept him out for more than five matches.

The 30-year-old represented Wales at the European Championships earlier in the summer, with his goal against Turkey on Matchday Two setting Robert Page’s side on their way to a victory which all but secured a Round of 16 spot.

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has described Ramsey as an ‘outstanding technician’, while club team-mate Federico Chiesa says he is a ‘very intelligent’ footballer.

The latest – Wolves in the running

The report says that Wolves are in the running to sign Ramsey, whom Juventus are open to selling.

But they could face competition from Tottenham Hotspur. New managing director of football, ex-Juve chief Fabio Paratici, is apparently a big admirer of the Welshman.

The verdict – Unlikely

In one sense, Wolves may have an upper hand here. Surely Ramsey wouldn’t consider joining Arsenal’s arch-rivals, even if he was intent on returning to the Premier League.

But then on the other hand, there’s the salary. You’d think he’d have to express a willingness to take a huge pay cut for the deal to be viable. For context, Wolves’ top earner, Joao Moutinho, earns £100,000 per week.

Ramsey may also have offers from clubs who will be playing in Europe next season. Ultimately, then, this deal may simply be unrealistic, but he is certainly a quality player when fit so fans may want to keep an eye on this rumour over the coming weeks.

Na ocasião, o ala estava recebendo críticas de alguns torcedores que estavam nas arquibancadas laterais da Vila Belmiro e foi defendido pelo técnico Dorival Júnior.

Outro fato que causou estresse entre dirigentes foi o silêncio dos jogadores após a partida contra o Red Bull, no Pacaembu, a primeira após a demissão do ex-gerente de futebol Sergio Dimas, que ocorreu contra a vontade dos atletas. Internamente, Zeca foi acusado de ter articulado um movimento entre os jogadores para não dar entrevista.

A punição após os dois fatos foi considerada injusta entre elenco e comissão técnica, inclusive pelo próprio Zeca, que é elogiado pelos companheiros por ter personalidade forte.

Segundo o Santos, o lateral-esquerdo foi liberado para ir à Itália tirar passaporte europeu antes do jogo contra a Ponte Preta porque está lesionado e teria sido aconselhado a ficar de repouso, em vez de se recuperar no CT Rei Pelé. Ele se apresenta na manhã desta quarta-feira e tem chances de estar presente no jogo de segunda-feira.

No entanto, a decisão por liberar o atleta esbarra no interesse de uma negociação futura. O Peixe acredita que com um passaporte europeu, Zeca seja mais valorizado e pensa em vendê-lo ainda no meio desta temporada.

Uma oferta de 8 milhões de euros (R$ 32 milhões) do Atlético de Madrid (ESP) foi recusada na penúltima janela de transferências.

Em 2015, o jovem revelado na base santista quase deixou o clube de graça por empréstimo para os Estados Unidos, mas foi mantido a pedido do técnico Dorival Júnior, que passou a utilizá-lo como titular. Desde então, Zeca foi convocado para a Seleção Brasileira olímpica e também foi titular na conquista da medalha de ouro.

Lots of Wolves fans have been left buzzing as some pre-season footage emerged involving Raul Jimenez.

As shared by the official Twitter page of the Midlands club, the Mexico international slotted home with his left-foot in a game against Stoke City, much to the delight of the supporters there, who can be heard singing as he scored.

This made the goal feel even more special for Jimenez, whose head injury kept him out for a large chunk of the 2020/21 term.

Now wearing protective headgear, the striker will be desperately keen to get back onto the pitch in the new upcoming Premier League season and remind fans watching in stadiums and at home what he is all about.
