Whilst Kevin De Bruyne’s missed penalty may be the biggest cause for frustration amongst Manchester City fans following their 1-1 draw against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, Rodri’s performance was really disappointing.

As per SofaScore, the Spanish midfielder picked up a worrying 6.0 rating for his display against the 2019/20 champions, which was the joint-worst of any player on the pitch.

Whilst the defensive midfielder’s passing wasn’t too sloppy during the game, with him picking up a pass accuracy rate of 84%, with 56/67 of his passes finding their mark, he still managed to lose possession on 13 occasions during the game against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Of the six ground duels he was involved in, he managed to win just one, whilst he failed to win his one aerial duel during the game, suggesting that he certainly wasn’t at his sharpest against the Reds.

Since joining from Atletico Madrid for £56.43 million last summer, the 24-year-old has gone on to make 63 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side, contributing four goals and two assists (per Transfermarkt).

Last season, the midfielder made 35 appearances in the Premier League, averaging a very strong 7.09 rating, whereas this season so far has seen him average a much less impressive 6.76 rating for his performances in the top-flight (per WhoScored).

This suggests that, so far this season at least, the £57.6 million-rated man has not been at his best for the Citizens and perhaps this is reflected across the whole team, with the Etihad Stadium outfit sitting in 11th position in the Premier League after their opening seven games (per BBC Sport).

Both Rodri and Manchester City will have to improve on their performances following the international break if they want to re-establish themselves as title hopefuls, although they face another tough game in their next Premier League fixture when they face Tottenham Hotspur away from home.

Phil Parkinson has got it seriously wrong and risks Lee Burge’s wrath after claiming the Sunderland goalkeeper is in a three-way battle for the starting role.

What’s the word?

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s League One clash with Doncaster Rovers, via quotes by The Northern Echo, Parkinson has claimed he has no first-choice shot-stopper as all three of Burge, Remi Matthews and young hopeful Anthony Patterson are in the running.

Burge opened the campaign as Parkinson’s go-to option after Jon McLaughlin opted to ditch the Stadium of Light and join Rangers on a free transfer, with the 27-year-old starting the first 10 fixtures of the League One season before a slight ankle problem ensured he fell to the bench last week.

Matthews started in Burge’s place at home to MK Dons to make his Sunderland league debut after being signed from Bolton Wanderers in the summer, while Patterson only earned his senior debut in this month’s Papa John’s Trophy defeat away to Fleetwood Town.

Parkinson was yet to decide who will feature in goal at Doncaster this weekend when speaking to the media, having been impressed by what Matthews brought to the table, and believes there is now a chance for all three to contend for the starting role.

“My thoughts behind last week were that Remi had done well in the game prior to that (against Mansfield in the FA Cup), and Burgey had been carrying a slight problem with his ankle, which was affecting his kicking. So, we went with Remi.

“Do you then say Remi is your number one? That’s not really the case because I feel we’ve got three good goalkeepers at the club. I want competition, and I think rather than saying one keeper is categorically the number one and the other one is happy to play the role of number two, I want the two-stroke-three ‘keepers to all believe they can get in that team. That’s what I feel we’ve got and its good competition.

“Anthony came in against Fleetwood and showed what we know he can do because he’s played so well in the Under 23s. He trains with the first-team every day and he’s pushing hard.”

Got it seriously wrong

While Parkinson will be hoping that his comments can keep Burge, Matthews and Patterson on their toes, the Sunderland boss has got it seriously wrong thinking that all three are in a position to challenge for the starting role.

His comments also risk the wrath of Burge, who kept six clean sheets in his 10 League One appearances and only fell out of the starting line-up through injury. Had it not been for the blow, then the £2,000-per-week ‘keeper would have been expected to retain the position as Sunderland’s clear first-choice shot-stopper.

Matthews, on the other hand, is yet to keep the opponents from scoring in any of his four appearances this season, including allowing League Two outfit Carlisle United to score three times in the EFL Trophy and Mansfield Town once as the Black Cats were beaten in the FA Cup by a side who were winless in all competitions.

MK Dons also scored twice from four shots on target last week, while Matthews recorded no punches, successful runs out or high claims whereas Burge has registered 10 saves from shots taken inside the Sunderland box, six from outside the area, made two punches, two successful runs out and registered five high claims this term, per SofaScore.

Burge would be livid for Parkinson to also consider Patterson, who conceded twice in his senior debut and has kept just two clean sheets in 34 Premier League 2 outings over the last three seasons.

Wolves summer transfer window was an eye-catching one to say the least.

Ever since Fosun and Nuno Santo entered the football club, they have never been afraid to spend big sums of money. You only need to look at the £15m investment they made on Ruben Neves when they were still in the Championship.

However, after selling Diogo Jota to Liverpool they took their spending to a whole new level.

They broke their transfer record to sign Fabio Silva for a fee of £35.6m and then landed former Barcelona right-back Nelson Semedo for an initial fee of £26.61m.

However, one man they missed out on was exciting Brazilian winger Pepe.

The Gremio sensation is an electric talent and according to reports, Wolves even submitted a bid for the 23-year-old.

Back in September, it was claimed that the Midlands side were ready to pay €15m (£13.6m) for his services. Negotiations then supposedly began properly in October but nothing came of the talks between the two clubs.

As such, Wolves missed out on someone that could have replaced Adama Traore. The Spaniard was linked with an exit in the summer and it’s now thought that Wolves are growing frustrated over his contract. Thus, it’s not too far-fetched to suggest he may leave.

Compare Pepe to Traore and it’s clear to see why they should regret missing out on the diminutive Brazilian.

Speaking about him back in April, Gremio vice president Paulo Luz said: “Pepe is a young, talented player who has that extra touch of class. He is fast and is a great finisher.”

Talented? Tick. Touch of class? Tick. Fast? Tick. Pepe has everything that Traore has.

In fact, if we’re looking for areas that the Wolves target is better in, it’s undoubtedly in front of goal. He has scored seven goals in just 18 outings in the league this season. For context, Wolves’ number 37 is yet to find the net this term.

That being said, he has still been a huge threat with his dribbling and the ability to beat a man. Traore has performed 3.4 successful dribbles per match in the Premier League this season, a number that Pepe comes close to – registering 2.7 of his own back in Brazil.

At under £20m, Wolves could have had a snip here but such is Pepe’s rapid progression, he’ll now probably cost a lot more. Over to you, Jeff Shi.

Glasgow Rangers will be secretly pleased with how their transfer window went in the summer, but if there’s one criticism to be made it’s the fact they failed to sign a genuine box-to-box midfielder.

What was the story?

Reports in recent times revealed that Rangers were interested in signing Patrik Hrosovsky from KRC Genk on an initial loan deal with the option to buy before the transfer deadline day.

According to Czech outlet iSport, Steven Gerrard’s side tried to secure his services in the summer. However, a move failed to materialise, as Genk rejected their advances.

It’s claimed that the Belgian giants refused to budge on their £3.5m as they were only willing to sell the Slovakian outright. Whether Rangers will return with another bid for the 28-year-old is currently unknown, as they ended up signing Bongani Zungu on loan from French Ligue 2 side Amiens in the end instead.

Van Bronckhorst 2.0

However, Ross Wilson would be wise to sanction a move for Hrosovsky as not only would he provide competition and cover for Steven Davis, but he’d also offer an alternative threat in attack, in a similar vein to Rangers legend Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Primarily a left-back for the majority of his career, Van Bronckhorst was deployed as a defensive midfielder during his time at Ibrox, as Dick Advocaat gave him the license to push forward and create chances.

Standing at 5 ft 6 in tall, the diminutive midfielder is only slightly smaller than the legendary Dutchman, and the similarities don’t stop there, either.

Like Van Bronchorst, Hrosovsky has a penchant for scoring goals from the midfield. Valued at £3.15m via Transfermarkt, in nine appearances in the Jupiler Pro League, the Slovakia international has scored one goal and supplied two assists so far this season, whilst he is averaging 1.9 tackles and 1 interception per game, via WhoScored.

By comparison, both Davis and Zungu are managing fewer tackles per game in the Scottish Premiership this season, as per WhoScored. The central midfielder, who is a former teammate of Ianis Hagi, has bagged two times and two assists in total for the Belgium club, which is more than Zungu managed during his time at Amiens.

These kind of numbers would be most welcome in Glasgow and if he becomes available again in the not too distant future, Wilson must strike while the iron is still hot.

تأتي الفكرة من جانب ريال مدريد لتجنب انقضاض أي نادٍ خارجي على مبابي، أو تفكير اللاعب في الفترة المقبلة في قبول عرض التجديد، وبالتالي، سيكون تحرك الملكي لضمان رغبة المهاجم في الانتقال إلى قلعة “سانتياجو برنابيو”.

Vários foram os assuntos abordados, desde informações sobre arbitragem até a tradicional psicóloga.

As palestras foram realizadas dia sim, dia não. Eis os assuntos abordados: performance (detalhes sobre o trabalho individualizado que a comissão técnica faz com os atletas para prevenir lesões), arbitragem (explicação maior sobre as regras do jogo), jurídica (detalhamento das suspensões e ganchos que os jogadores podem receber) e psicologia, que o nome já explica claramente o tema. O lateral-esquerdo Jorge elogiou a postura neste início de temporada.

– O momento de felicidade acho que tem a ver com o descanso que tivemos nas férias, aproveitando com familiares e amigos. Dentro do clube posso dizer que todas as palestras estão sendo muito boa. Estamos com vontade de vencer, esse é o nosso objetivo. Todas essas mudanças estão sendo feitas para evoluirmos não apenas individualmente, mas como grupo, também – explicou.

A delegação do Flamengo retornou na noite de domingo de Mangaratiba para o Rio de Janeiro. Os jogadores treinam até quarta-feira na Gávea e depois viajam para o Nordeste, onde disputam os amistosos contra o Ceará, quinta, às 21h30, no Castelão, e Santa Cruz, domingo, às 11h, na Arena Pernambuco.
