As the overhaul continues at West Bromwich Albion, the biggest requirement is clearly that of a manager.

The underwhelming, negative football under Jimmy Shan isn’t the way to go if the Baggies wish for Premier League football to return to the Hawthorns and the club so obviously need a fresh start to reengage the fan base after so many years of stagnation.

They now need someone capable of pulling off big achievements and West Brom are targeting a manager who’s defied the odds in the past. According to reports (via Daily Star), the Baggies are pondering on making Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill their next head coach. Indeed, the 49-year-old is famous for helping the Green and White Army qualify for the UEFA European Championship for the first time in 2016, seriously enhancing his reputation along the way.

Moreover, O’Neill’s become famous for encouraging an attacking style and displaying courage with his management. While there’s little doubt he’s a quality manager, questions arise on whether he’s ready to return to club management? He’s been managing the international side for 8 years and isn’t frankly used to the intensity of a whole league season.

Chris Coleman, anyone?

Clearly, O’Neill will have to change his complete routine at West Brom’s potential boss. With Championship games coming thick and fast, it could prove too overwhelming for him. While he could definitely transform the Baggies into playing free-flowing, end-to-end winning football, it’ll difficult for him to keep reshuffling his tactics to keep them at the top.

The 49-year-old’s more used to games every few months rather than a few weeks. He might be a quality manager, but perhaps West Brom should appoint an expert at managing a Championship club than someone reputed for his prowess in knockout competitions.

أكد محمد يوسف المدير الفني السابق للنادي الأهلي والحالي لفريق البنك الأهلي الصاعد حديثا للدوري الممتاز أن النادي الأهلي استحق التتويج بلقب دوري أبطال إفريقيا عن جدارة.

Arsenal fans on Twitter have angrily turned on Unai Emery after the Gunners boss proclaimed his pride at his side’s season in the wake of their 4-1 Europa League final defeat to Chelsea.

An even opening 45 minutes gave way to a second half of thorough Chelsea dominance as Eden Hazard scored twice to lead the Blues to a comfortable Europa League triumph.

The defeat in Baku consigns Emery’s side to Thursday night action next season after missing out on Champions League football by finishing fifth in the Premier League and failing to win the Europa League.

Speaking after the damaging defeat the Arsenal manager said: “We played a good first half but lost control in the second half. I am proud of my players and proud of our season. We will carry on improving in our way.”

A cataclysmic finale to the Premier League season saw Arsenal win just one of their final five fixtures, with defeat to Chelsea rubbing salt in the wounds of a disappointing year.

And frustrations boiled over amongst the Gunners faithful on Twitter after Emery’s controversial satisfaction at the failed campaign.

وأضاف: “بالنسبة لفريق كرة القدم شكلنا لجنة لشئون كرة القدم مكونة من أيمن يونس وأشرف قاسم وعبد الحليم علي، هم من سيكون لهم اليد في ملف الكرة، ولن نتدخل في شئون المدير الفني والكرة وله كل الصلاحيات في إدارة الكرة والمباريات”.

وتابع: “لم نطلع على أي شىء، غدًا سنستلم النادي، وسنعطي الأولويات للماديات لفريق الكرة والتجديد للاعبيه التي أوشكتك عقودهم على الانتهاء، إذا كان هناك مستحقات متأخرة هذا سيكون محل اعتبار في ضوء الماديات المتواجدة في خزينة النادي”.

You’ve got to say, Tottenham have defied all expectations this season. But it could’ve been so much better…

Obviously, taking on what appeared to be a self-imposed transfer ban, stadium delays and turbulence as well as an extensive injury list which had seen them suffer 28 injuries before the end of January, and still challenging for the Champions League title is admittedly quite impressive stuff.

However, for Spurs fans, with unexpected hope came bitter disappointment, and as Mauricio Pochettino and his men failed to bring home a single piece of silverware, which makes it 276 oh-so-promising matches under the Argentine with nothing in the way of trophies to show for it, some will be left scratching their heads and wondering what they can do to improve.

So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at the biggest mistake they made this season…

Selling but not signing

A simple one really; selling Mousa Dembele on the 17th of January 2019 was a big mistake.

We understand that his contract was coming to an end, but surely it would’ve been more prudent to keep him on until the end of the season to ensure that the club had sufficient reinforcements to mount their silverware offensive.

The selection headache Pochettino faced charging into the Champions League semi-final showed just how desperate Spurs have been at times, with Harry Winks out and Moussa Sissoko – ironically, a player who has been gifted more time this season because of low numbers – only just making the bench, leaving Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier, both of whom were absent for a combined 41 games.

It’s not even that we’re suggesting the Belgian would’ve started, or even deserved to for that matter. Indeed, an average rating of 6.38 from Who Scored for his performances in the Premier League this season would suggest he was way past his best. But we’ve seen what he’s capable of over the years, particularly with the ball at his feet (even at the end of his Spurs career he boasted an impressive record of only being disposed 0.7 times per game).

Daniel Levy has a chance to right his wrongs this summer and sign some top quality players. And if reports (per Sky Sports) are correct, the first man walking through the new doors of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could be Real Betis’ 16-goal wonder Giovani Lo Celso.

Fingers are surely crossed.

استرجع روبرت ليفاندوفسكي، مهاجم بايرن ميونخ الألماني، ذكريات مباراة فريقه أمام برشلونة في الموسم الماضي بدوري أبطال أوروبا.

وسحق بايرن ميونخ نظيره الكتالوني في تلك المباراة بنتيجة (8-2)، وتحدث ليفاندوفسكي في تصريحات لصحيفة “Ole”.

وقال ليفاندوفسكي: “قبل المباراة، كنا نعلم أننا أقوياء للغاية وشعرنا بثقة كبيرة، وأعتقد أن هذا كان مفتاح الفوز”.

وأضاف: “ربما ليس بسبب تلك النتيجة الضخمة التي حدثت، لكننا شعرنا بالاستعداد الشديد ليس فقط للتغلب على برشلونة ولكن لتسجيل الأهداف لقد كانت طريقة لعبنا في ذلك اليوم مذهلة”.

Speaking to a talkSPORT broadcast on Thursday 13 June at 16:10, Adrian Durham has given his say on West Brom’s appointment of Slaven Bilic, revealing his disbelief that the Croatian has ended up at the Hawthorns.

What’s he said?

After three arduous months, Albion finally have a new manager. Was it worth the wait? Only time will tell.

However, the fact they’ve finally managed to appoint someone is a step in the right direction as the club bid to return to the Premier League.

Yet, speaking during a broadcast on talkSPORT on Thursday 13 June from 16:10 onwards, the controversial Durham has revealed his dismay at the appointment, making reference to some of the problems facing the Baggies. He said:

“I can’t believe it, if I just tell you this fact, three years ago he took West Ham to a position where they were four points off the top of the Premier League.

“What is he doing in the Championship? What on earth is he doing at a Championship club that are stripping back everything, Jay Rodriguez may go, Gayle isn’t coming back.

“It is an amazing appointment for West Brom.”

Dowling now getting things right?

In many senses, the fact West Brom have managed to get in someone of Bilic’s stature is remarkable. Highly renowned for his work with Croatia in the past, the former West Ham boss’ time in England hasn’t been too convincing.

He did superbly well in his first year with the Irons before he witnessed inconsistent performances during the rest of his stay.

However, Durham’s comments are indicative of the good work Technical Director Luke Dowling has done in terms of bringing the 50-year-old to the Midlands.

It may have been a drawn-out process but being able to attract a manager like Bilic proves that their meticulous search may well be worth it.

Bearing in mind the problems that Durham lists, it’s quite amazing that he’s willing to take over the managerial hot seat at West Brom. That’s especially if you consider the amount of recruitment that’ll have to be done if Albion are to challenge next term.

Dowling may not have got everything spot on in his time at the Hawthorns but Bilic’s arrival is a sign he may now be finding his feet.
