Spurs fans react to Christian Eriksen transfer report

Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted to interest in Christian Eriksen from Inter Milan.

Journalist Richard Hall, who specialises in Italian football, told Love Sport Radio that Inter boss Antonio Conte is interested in signing the Denmark international this month.

Of course, his contract expires at the end of the season and he will be available on a free transfer as soon as the season ends.

However, Inter are said to be willing to pay as much as €30m (£25.5m) to sign him this month, giving Spurs a fee for a player who could well walk away for nothing in a few months.

And some fans are desperate for him to leave in January.

And a number of other fans have also urged the club to reinvest this month as they attempt to strengthen the squad in January.

Indeed, some have picked out Inter players they would like to bring in – strikers Lautaro Martinez and Gabriel Barbosa.

The Denmark international has remained a key member of Jose Mourinho’s squad this season, making 24 appearances in all competitions.

He has scored three goals and registered three assists and played the entire 90 minutes as Spurs drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is doing Spurs no favours.

Rangers fans fume at journalist’s article about Alfredo Morelos

Alfredo Morelos is one of the hottest talking points in Scottish football and he rarely evades the headlines for any significant length of time.

Arguably Rangers’ most talented footballer, the Colombia international’s blend of flair and ill-discipline have seen him criticised in the media on a regular basis, and he has once again been targeted more than two weeks after he was sent off in the Old Firm derby.

Bill Leckie, a journalist who writes for the Scottish Sun, has delivered a scathing attack on the prolific striker, labelling him a waster in what can only be described as a malicious attempt to undermine his ability.

The player has already managed to score a whopping 28 goals this season, providing Steven Gerrard with a vital weapon in the club’s bid to end Celtic’s dominance in the SPFL.

In response to the report, fans turned out in their numbers to amplify their disgust at Leckie’s article, with one fan suggesting the narrative would take on a completely different tone if he played for Celtic.

These two fans, meanwhile, alluded to a potentially racist agenda against the 23-year-old hitman.

On December 31st 2019, The Athletic’s Rangers correspondent Jordan Campbell claimed that there is a “racist and xenophobic underbelly to the abuse and analysis” surrounding Morelos.

That is an opinion seemingly shared by sections of the Ibrox faithful.

This fan, meanwhile, claimed Leckie is fortunate to be employed as a sports writer such is the extent to which he disagrees with the fresh take on Morelos.

Finally, one fan tagged GuinessWorldRecords and asked them to confirm that the meltdown from Rangers’ Old Firm victory has extended to a record-breaking length of time.

Tensions are beginning to boil over in Glasgow as the rivalry between Scotland’s behemoths intensifies ahead of what promises to be an exciting season finale.

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti’s comments should be music to the ears of the fans

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has spoken more about how the style of football he wants his team to play in quotes reported by The Liverpool Echo, and the comments should be music to the ears of Toffees supporters.

What did he say?

The 60-year-old was speaking ahead of the Premier League clash against Newcastle United at Goodison Park on Tuesday, which comes on the back of a 1-1 draw against West Ham United at the London Stadium at the weekend.

According to The Liverpool Echo, the Italian said:

“At this moment we are not playing vertical, we are playing a lot of balls back, instead of playing forward, and that is how we can improve. We can play more vertically.

“We want to build up but when you have the possibility to play forward you must play forward. Quick. If you are slow at the back you have less possibility to find space in the opponent’s half and that is something we have to improve.

“Sometimes when you say to a player that we want possession, they think possession is the target. The target is not possession. The target is always to score goals.”

Music to the ears of fans

The problem of Everton not being positive enough on the ball may come from a general lack of confidence given they were in the relegation zone when Marco Silva was sacked last month, but the players need to snap out of it if they are to be a regular starter under a coach like Ancelotti, who Seamus Coleman admitted tore into them at half-time against the Irons.

Individuals such as Coleman, Michael Keane, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Morgan Schneiderlin have certainly been guilty of playing the easy ball backwards at times rather than taking a risk in recent months, and more bravery is clearly what their manager wants now even in front of a demanding Goodison Park crowd.

It was interesting that the former Napoli boss picked out Theo Walcott and Fabian Delph in the same Liverpool Echo article as players that he wants to see step up and show some courage, in order to be more positive when they walk across that white line.

The fact that the former has one assist in 17 Premier League appearances this season from the wing is hardly a glowing endorsement of his quality.

Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think…

Ancelotti has laid his cards on the table as to what he wants to see from his players, and now it is up to them to deliver.

Manchester United fans react to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s comment to Scott Davies

Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to react after the Manchester Evening News confirmed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thanked Tranmere’s captain – Scott Davies – for firing the players and the supporters up.

Davies – a Manchester City fan – said before the game that he and his family had a “big hatred” of United and that “if myself and my football club can have an influence on them having another bad day then great” – brutal.

Following those comments, the Tranmere glovesman then went on to concede six goals against the Red Devils, with five of those coming in the first half – it’s safe to say he didn’t put his money where his mouth was.

After the full-time whistle had sounded, Solskjaer then thanked Davies for “firing up the fans and the players” after United recorded their biggest win since August 2011.

In our opinion, the former Molde boss probably shouldn’t have got involved personally once the game was done, as it does come across as slightly unprofessional and needless after his side gave Tranmere such a humbling 90 minutes.

Nevertheless, let’s see what the United fans on Twitter thought of Solskjaer’s words…

To kick off the reaction, it doesn’t seem like these two supporters were very impressed with the Norwegian’s comments.

Daniel said that “Ole is getting more and more pathetic by the day” after hearing what the Red Devils boss said to Davies, whereas another fan simply asked Manchester City to “please put this man out of his job” – presumably by beating them in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, this fan with the username ‘e’ said that Solskjaer is “getting too big for his boots” – interesting.

Meanwhile, Sam and a fan with the username ‘Ole Out’ both mocked Davies for his status as a League One player, but also used that as a stick to beat Solskjaer with in.

Sam said that the United manager “needs help from League One dross to fire up the players” before saying that should be Solskjaer’s job, whereas the other fan said “shut up” and that “no one even knows” Davies or what he said.

Lastly, another fan simply called Solskjaer a “savage” – Ole Gunnar Savage to be precise.

Idiots Abroad: Do you know where these famous Brits are playing now?

In other news, these United fans want to see Solskjaer make an “overdue” switch that “might just get the message through”…

Everton set to sell instead of buying before January deadline

Everton are focused on selling players instead of buying them ahead of the January transfer deadline, per The Liverpool Echo.

What’s the word?

The January window closes later this week and, thus far, the club have yet to bring in a single acquisition this month.

Cenk Tosun has joined Crystal Palace for an undisclosed fee and the report claims that the Toffees remain focused on thinning their squad.

Both Oumar Niasse and Cuco Martina are said to be available and there is a hope that they can be shifted.

The club are said to be open to bringing in new additions this month, though signings are said to be unlikely at this point.

Indeed, Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino is not said to be a target.

Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think…

Most difficult window

Most clubs are finding it remarkably hard to bring in players in January and Everton appear to be no exception.

At the turn of the year, it is rare that players simply become available at the drop of a hat and, if they do, there is a red flag attached given that their current club are willing to cash in.

It seems that the Merseyside club are in something of a holding pattern and the report claims that Director of Football Marcel Brands has outlined their intention to acquire a right-winger but that such a chase could stretch to the summer.

At this point, it feels as though the same goes for most positions in need of strengthening; Toffees supporters will simply have to wait.

Meanwhile, Everton have reportedly made an approach for a midfielder!

West Brom plot late bid for QPR speedster Bright Osayi-Samuel

According to today’s print edition of The Sun newspaper (page 56), West Brom are planning an ambitious and late bid for Queens Park Rangers winger Bright Osayi-Samuel with Slaven Bilic looking to bolster his squad further before deadline day.

What’s the word?

It is claimed that the Croatian sees the 22-year-old as the perfect candidate to freshen up Albion’s promotion bid as their attacking department has gone stale in recent weeks.

The Baggies haven’t won in seven successive league outings and have only scored more than the one goal once during that same run.

On Tuesday evening, they relinquished top spot to nearest rivals Leeds United whilst their 13 point cushion in the automatic places has diminished to just two points.

Bilic will have to battle Premier League side, Burnley, for his signature.

Better than Phillips?

There is no denying that West Brom have suffered badly in the absence of Grady Diangana through injury over the past two months, throw in Matheus Pereira’s suspension too, and things don’t appear to be getting any better anytime soon.

The club announced the loan signing of Callum Robinson from Sheffield United early on Wednesday morning, a positive step as the frontman can play as a left-winger as well as a striker.

Now Bilic must push to sign Osayi-Samuel as he’d be the perfect candidate to springboard Albion’s fortunes back in their favour.

The right-winger was described as “outstanding” by his manager Mark Warburton earlier this season as he went on to also say: “I’m not sure many teams have that blistering pace. As long as he knows how to use it and that’s the key for him learning the game. He’s working so hard. He’s got that sheer pace which terrifies defenders, and when he uses it wisely like he did today, he looks a real handful.”

Osayi-Samuel would be an instant upgrade to Matt Phillips too as he has six years on the 28-year-old Scotsman while in the league this season he has averaged far more dribbles per game – a massive 2.8 compared to Phillips’ measly 0.8.

Are you a Championship expert? How much did each of these big-money signings cost?

The QPR wide man also earns more fouls by a considerable margin too – an average of 2.1 per game versus 0.3 for the Baggies winger.

Phillips is also hugely out of form as of late, managing just one assist in his last six games whilst he has managed to find the net once in 14 matches despite racking up six goals for the season beforehand (per Transfermarkt).

At the end of December, fans were even quick to label the long-serving ace as “lethargic” and “miles off the pace” which only strengthens the argument that the Baggies could find a player better than him in the role.

When looking for added flair in attack, the young speedster can be exactly what Bilic needs.

Everton: Megafon exterior design outside Goodison Park receives positive approval from supporters

According to details from the Liverpool Echo, Russian mobile phone operator Megafon’s logo will be displayed outside Goodison Park and crafted on to the exterior of the stadium as part of a deal the Toffees signed back in July 2019 with USM Holdings – prompting a positive reaction from supporters.

The deal, which saw USM Holdings become the club’s official matchday partner, has resulted in two Megafon fixed lighting signs being developed outside the famous Everton ground which will be in full display for every home game. A photo of the construction, courtesy of social media account The Toffee Blues, was published on Twitter to showcase the developed advertising of their new sponsors – with supporters reacting positively to the news and potentially hinting that the club could benefit off it.

Even despite the signs seemingly just being part of the deal to no extra financial benefit according to the Echo. So, with that in mind, find all of their best comments from Twitter down below.

Ex-Leeds star Hasselbaink believes Bamford doesn’t deserve all the blame

Leeds United have been nothing short of terrible lately.

The Whites have won just two of their last 10 games, and they’ve failed to score in three of their last four matches.

If you only looked at social media, you’d think that the one man responsible for their recent woes is Patrick Bamford as fans slam him on Twitter on almost a weekly basis.

However, one former United player believes that the blame lies elsewhere, rather than just at Bamford’s feet.

What’s been said then?

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was talking about the lack of goals from elsewhere in the squad on Sky Sports’ coverage of Nottingham Forest vs Leeds.

Watch Leeds United Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

“That is the problem I think, that is the big problem, the other players not chipping in,” Hasselbaink said (Sky Sports Main Event (8/2/20 8PM).

“You know Bamford, everyone is talking about Bamford, but it’s not just Bamford. It is the wide players, it’s the centre-halves who have to chip in with goals.

“Klich last year was scoring left, right and centre, and it’s just not happening, and that for me is a big issue.”

Both big problems

Hasselbaink is right about other players needing to chip in more, but it would be extremely naive to say that Bamford isn’t a huge problem.

The striker is massively underperforming his xG, and he’s missed a huge number of goal scoring opportunities throughout the season.

The highest scorer behind Bamford is Jack Harrison with five so it’s clear there is a need for more goals from elsewhere. However, the numbers show that the system is centred around creating chances for the number nine, and he simply isn’t taking them.

Both things need to improve sooner rather than later, and the Yorkshire club needs to find a solution.

In other news, our writers have been weighing up whether or not this 123-cap star would be a good signing for Leeds.

Celtic: Fans react as Maryan Shved impresses for reserve side

Loads of Celtic fans have been reacting to some news from the academy side, as Maryan Shved grabbed a goal in a reserves match against Aberdeen on Tuesday.

The Hoops first-team is absolutely flying under Neil Lennon, winning their last nine matches in all competitions and keeping clean sheets in three of their last four. One man who hasn’t been involved much though is Shved, who played five minutes off the bench in the recent cup win over Clyde.

Since returning from his loan spell last summer, the £1.35m-rated (Transfermarkt) forward has barely seen the light of day at Parkhead, racking up just three total appearances and only 40 minutes of action – although he has still managed to find the back of the net once.

He played just over an hour in Tuesday’s 4-0 win against Aberdeen though, finding the back of the net with a header shortly before half-time. Plenty of fans took to Twitter after the club shared the news of his goal, and you can find some of the best reactions down below, where one fan went so far as to call him ‘the next Marvin Compper’…

Wolves: Tim Spiers believes Espanyol won’t be gunning for a comeback

The Athletic’s Tim Spiers talked to Jacqui Oatley on The Molineux View and discussed Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Thursday night clash with Espanyol in the Europa League.

At this point, it would take a miracle from the Spanish team to somehow turn this tie around and progress to the next round of the Europa League competition this season. Indeed, Wolves made short work of their opposition at Molineux, crushing them 4-0 and all but guaranteeing their ticket for the last 16.

Spiers firmly believes Thursday’s clash in Spain will be nothing more than a formality for both sides. Here’s what he said for The Molineux View podcast (25/2/2020): “I see Thursday’s game being a formality, to be honest. I think obviously, comebacks of that nature have happened in Europe, you only got to go back to the end of last season. That’s not going to be the case this week, because Espanyol won’t be playing their first team. And they won’t be putting their bodies or their lives on the line to win this match. Because I think they’ve accepted that they’re out of it”

Of course, with Wolves currently firing on all cylinders following their 3-0 hammering of Norwich in the Premier League, the chances of Espanyol doing anything miraculous are slimmer than ever. Even if they did try to go full strength on Thursday, which Spiers believes they won’t, it would be a rather tall order for the Catalan side, who are already fighting an uphill battle.
