Arguably, it was Akeal Hosein who had emerged with greater credit, following up his Player-of-the-Series effort in Amstelveen with all-round contributions in Multan. In the third ODI, Hosein came to the crease when West Indies were 93 for 5 and gave Pakistan a late scare with a sprightly 37-ball 60, which included six sixes. As far as his stronger suit is concerned, he is on top of the ODI Super league wicket-takers’ list with 35 strikes, six ahead of his team-mate Joseph.Former West Indies fast bowler and current commentator, Ian Bishop, was so impressed with Hosein’s control of line and length that he felt Hosein had the tools to succeed in Test cricket too; although the spinner was overlooked for the forthcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Pooran, too, was full of praise for Hosein, ahead of the third ODI. “Very happy for him. He’s someone who is very hard working as well and it’s not just the last series and this series, but he has been doing well for the last couple of months and he’s a very hard worker again,” he said. “It’s nice to see him getting a lot of wickets and getting the best batsmen out and happy that we can throw the ball to him and ask him to do a job for us – whether it is containing or getting wickets – not only Akeal but the rest of the bowlers are putting their hands up and trying to [execute] what is required for the team as well.”West Indies’ red-ball players will now have only four days of rest before they face Bangladesh at home in a two-match Test series. Pooran’s message to them is pretty simple: “Get wickets, make runs, be smart. Coming from this conditions obviously, it took a toll on our every one of us. I wish the Test team all the best and looking forward to a series victory again against Bangladesh.”

In regards to outgoings, three squad members have been moved out on loan, one of which being midfielder Han-Noah Massengo who joined Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre.

Talking to the media about bringing in a midfield replacement following Massengo’s departure, Parker teased a potential addition amid links to Jonjo Shelvey.

“Yes, we’re a little bit short there at the moment and it’s probably an area that we’ll see if there’s anything [in the transfer window]. We’ve obviously got Aaron Ramsey [to come back from injury], but he’s still a little bit away.

“There’s a player there that I look at and I’ve been looking at for some time before I came here and I know exactly what sort of level of player he is. But obviously at this present moment in time he’s out injured. But you’re right, there’s a little area there where we’re a little bit light and maybe we’ll have a look at that.”

There are also other targets for Burnley, including Galatasaray centre-back Victor Nelsson and Plymouth Argyle forward Morgan Whittaker.

Those at Turf Moor wanted Whittaker in the summer and made two offers for the player, who ended up staying at Home Park.

Now, according to journalist Alex Crook, Burnley have made another bid to sign Whittaker from Plymouth. The Clarets aren’t alone, though. Championship rivals Hull City are doing the same. However, Argyle have turned down both offers for their FA Cup ”hero” following his winner at Brentford on Saturday.

The 24-year-old hasn’t hit the same heights as last season’s 27-goal contribution campaign in the second tier, only scoring three times and providing one assist under Wayne Rooney, who has since been sacked at Home Park.

A left-footed attacker who plays off the right, Whittaker has come in for plenty of praise for his displays in the south west including from former Plymouth director of football Neil Dewsnip, who hailed Whittaker after he was named in the Championship Team of the Year last season.

“Well done Morgan Whittaker. He has excited us here throughout the season. He has scored some amazing goals and to get selected in that team with the quality that exits in this league is a major achievement.

“He should be really proud of himself. The supporters I hope enjoy watching him play. I hope he continues to score his goals in the next three games as well. That would be nice if he could do that. He has made a major contribution this season.”

It looks as if Burnley are determined to sign Whittaker at some point, however, this month could be tricky with Argyle battling the drop.

Nkunku, meanwhile, has set his sights on a move to Bayern Munich. The France international is one of Chelsea’s top scorers in all competitions, bagging 13 in all competitions, but Maresca appears to deem him an impact player from the bench when it comes to regular chances in the Premier League.

The bulk of his starts have come in cup competitions, and this doesn’t appear to satisfy the 26-year-old, as Nkunku verbally agrees on a contract to leave Chelsea for Bayern.

Both sides are now in ongoing talks over his transfer to the Allianz Arena (Florian Plettenberg), but Fabrizio Romano says yet another Chelsea player could join Nkunku and Veiga in heading for the exit door.

Chelsea in talks to offload defender Axel Disasi in January

According to Romano, that man is £38 million defender Axel Disasi.

The centre-back, who Maresca has often utilised at full-back when the likes of Malo Gusto and Reece James have been unavailable, is expected to be left out of the squad to play Bournemouth this evening.

Important clubs are in talks to explore a January move for Disasi, as per Romano, after Chelsea held discussions with the Frenchman over his future. Following these conversations with Disasi, the west Londoners are now open to letting him leave before February 3.

Branded a “leader” in the team for some of his performances, Disasi still faces stiff competition for regular playing time, and it appears his exit is now firmly on the cards.
