After clinching a 4-1 series win in the one-day leg of the tour, India A have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match unofficial Test series against West Indies A. The visitors sealed a seven-wicket win with a resounding bowling performance despite conceding a 128-run lead in the first innings. India A then went on to chase 278 for the loss of only three wickets with half-centuries from Priyank Panchal, Mayank Agarwal, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Anmolpreet Singh.Panchal was the top-scorer of the match, following up on his first-innings 58 with a 68 in the second dig. During the chase, he stitched together a 150-run opening stand with Agarwal whose 81 featured 10 fours. The duo fell within the space of five overs and No. 4 Hanuma Vihari followed suit, falling for 1, but an unbroken 100-run stand between Easwaran and Anmolpreet, who struck 59 and 51 respectively, blunted the West Indies A attack and helped wrap up the win.Chemar Holder, the pick of the West Indies attack, took 2 for 51 in the second innings to add to his first-innings returns of 5 for 54, his second first-class five-wicket haul. In the first innings, the right-arm fast bowler ran through the India A top five as they rolled over for 190, with Easwaran, Vihari and Anmolpreet falling for ducks. Save for Panchal, and No. 7 Shivam Dube (79 off 85), no India A batsman could go past 20. Holder was ably supported by fellow quicks Romario Shepherd and Raymon Reifer, who bagged three and two wickets respectively. This was in reply to the hosts’ 318, which they put together on the back of half-centuries from Montcin Hodge, Shamarh Brooks and Rahkeem Cornwall, who scored an unbeaten 56 at No. 8. Mohammed Siraj and Mayank Markande took three wickets each.West Indies A, however, could only add 149 to their lead as offspinner K Gowtham, who went wicketless in the first four-dayer, took 5 for 17 in only 7.5 overs, helping skittle out the home side inside 40 overs. The early damage, however, was done by Sandeep Warrier, who reduced the opposition to 12 for 4 in the sixth over. Had it not been for Sunil Ambris’ 71 and Jermaine Blackwood’s 31, the hosts might have struggled to put on a competitive total.

"Outstanding" Rangers player now ready to quit Ibrox with eyes on big deal

One Rangers player is reportedly looking to leave Ibrox at the end of the season and can actually secure his next move now.

Rangers January transfer window

Philippe Clement’s first transfer window as Rangers boss ended up being a productive one, with three new players being brought in on loan.

Glasgow Rangers managerPhilippe Clement.

Fabio Silva, Mohamed Diomande and Oscar Cortes joined from Wolves, Nordsjaelland and Lens respectively, whereas Sam Lammers, Jose Cifuentes and Adam Devine headed out on temporary deals until the end of the season. Talking about the club’s business last month, Clement seemed fairly happy, saying:

“Great and I'm happy that it's finished and we know what the squad is to go on for the next four months. It's almost going to be a sprint now in the next four months with a lot of games and we know what the squad is.

“We adjusted a few things to get balance in the squad, we added some young and talented players who can raise their game here and add value to the club and also, in the future, to bring more money into the club. It's not the main concern, the main concern is to get results but with a good business plan.”

As we know, Rangers are pushing rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership, while also still being in the Europa League and Scottish Cup following their League Cup triumph.

It looks set to be a frantic final few months of the season, however, it seems as if one player already has his mind on a move away from Glasgow.

Borna Barisic transfer update

According to Football Insider in the last 48 hours, left-back Borna Barisic is on course to leave Ibrox for free at the end of the current campaign and already appears to have his eye on a “bigger deal” elsewhere.

“Rangers left-back Borna Barisic is ready to quit the club this summer when his contract comes to an end, sources have told Football Insider. The 31-year-old’s deal is up in May and he is now looking to take advantage of his free agent status in the off-season. Barisic is aware he can get a bigger deal elsewhere if he leaves Ibrox for free.”

Borna Barisic

Barisic has been at Rangers since 2018 and enjoyed plenty of success at Ibrox, but it looks as if his days in Scotland are now numbered.

He’s previously come in for praise from former managers Steven Gerrard and Michael Beale, with Gerrard saying: "Borna was outstanding last night, he is the Croatian left-back and he is used to these high-pressure games. "He is very highly respected by the staff and in the dressing room."

Beale said last year: “I think Borna must have sensed he [Yilmaz] was getting fit because Borna has been consistently our strongest player over the last few weeks.”

The tables have turned and Ridvan Yilmaz is first choice under Clement, and with links to left-back Jefte not going away, losing Barisic might not be the end of the world for Rangers.

FSG eyeing Liverpool move for "great" new manager alongside Xabi Alonso

Liverpool are reportedly showing an interest in a "great" manager as a rival option to Xabi Alonso, as FSG look to nail Jurgen Klopp's successor this summer.

Liverpool manager latest

For most Reds supporters, the fact that Klopp is leaving at the end of the season almost feels surreal, with his exit coming as such a shock last month.

The German is bordering on irreplaceable, considering the impact he has made since arriving at Anfield in 2015, not only winning trophies and playing great football, but also understanding the values of Liverpool as a city.

Whoever comes in to replace Klopp has an incredibly difficult job on their hands, and it seems clear that Alonso is the front-runner for the job, as he continues to work miracles at Bayer Leverkusen, inspiring them to an eight-point lead at the top of the table.

He isn't the only option, however, with Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim another exciting young coach who has been linked with becoming Liverpool's next boss. Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is also a name who has been thrown into the mix, and it wouldn't be a surprise if more candidates emerged.

Liverpool eyeing Julian Nagelsmann

According to a new update from The Telegraph, Liverpool see Julian Nagelsmann as a possible alternative to Alonso as Klopp's replacement.

Bayern's Julian Nagelsmann

Nagelsmann is certainly a standout manager in the world of football at the moment, and the fact that he has already achieved so much at the age of just 36 makes him an exciting option. The German has won one Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich, not to mention two German Super Cups, and Argentina's World Cup-winning coach Lionel Scaloni has said of him:

"He’s a great coach. We’re following his work with big interest. We often look at his training sessions, we really like the way he trains. I hope that one day I’ll get to meet him personally."

Nagelsmann is currently in charge of the German national team, hoping to win Euro 2024 on home soil this summer, but he will be out of contract at the end of the tournament. The fact that he is on course to be available could appeal to FSG, with an agreement potentially in place before the Euros.

That being said, Alonso still firmly feels like the best option for Liverpool to take over from Klopp, with supporters already adoring him after a brilliant five-year spell at Anfield as a player.

The Times report "world class" Liverpool favourite wanted in big-money move

What a blow this would be for the Reds this summer.

ByHenry Jackson Feb 24, 2024

As a manager, he looks like a special young option, however, which is more important than anything he achieved in his playing days, and winning the Bundesliga title over Bayern Munich would be an amazing achievement. Hopefully, he agrees to a move to Liverpool, but if it doesn't materialise, Nagelsmann and Amorim look like strong backup options.

Man City named as £80m Bayern star Jamal Musiala chooses Premier League

Manchester City are among the front-runners to sign an "exceptional" world-renowned star this summer, and are confident of beating some big rivals to his signature.

Man City transfer news

Pep Guardiola's side are looking to seal a historic back-to-back treble this season and Sunday's 3-1 win over Manchester United in the Premier League suggests that they are clicking at just the right time. This is a club that refuses to rest on its laurels, however, and once the summer transfer window arrives, Guardiola and Txiki Begiristain will be eyeing up fantastic new signings.

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta has been a long-time target who nearly moved to the Etihad last summer, and it would be a surprise if City weren't back in for him in the coming months, assuming his gambling related charges are cleared.

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta

The Brazilian suits Guardiola's football perfectly, not only because of his elite technical ability, but also due to his work ethic. This season, he has averaged 2.4 tackles per game in the league, for example, which is a better tally than any City player, with Rodri (2.1) leading the way in the current squad.

Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz is also being linked with a move to City this summer, with Guardiola believed to be a big admirer of the Brazilian, who spent two years at the club between 2017 and 2019.

Man City confident of signing superstar

According to a new update from The Daily Star, Manchester City are favourites to sign Bayern Munich starlet Jamal Musiala this summer, along with Liverpool.

The 21-year-old has reportedly rejected Bayern's £150,000-a-week contract offer, instead eyeing a fresh challenge and a move to the Premier League at the end of the current campaign.

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala.

Both Liverpool and City are thought to have scouted him a number of times recently, with the rivals locking horns over the signing of one of Europe's premier talents. Chelsea are also in the mix, but the Cityzens are confident of getting their man, who is rated at £80m and will want £200,000 per week.

Hasaranga, Rajapaksa star as Sri Lanka spring another surprise on Pakistan

The visitors wrapped up the T20I series 2-0 with one match to go

The Report by Andrew Fidel Fernando07-Oct-2019

Wanindu Hasaranga took three wickets in four balls•AFP

Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s rousing 77 off 48 balls and more finishing fireworks from Dasun Shanaka propelled Sri Lanka to 182 for 6, before the bowlers hurt Pakistan in the Powerplay again and then brought down the middle order once the field had spread.Sri Lanka are not only inexperienced on account of the many withdrawals from this tour, they also have such a poor recent T20I record that they have to go through the qualifiers next year in order to play in the T20 World Cup. And yet, they have now comfortably won a series against the top-ranked T20I side in the world. The margin on this occasion was 35 runs – Pakistan were dismissed by the end of the 19th over. While Rajapaksa had headlined the batting – a 94-run third-wicket stand with Shehan Jayasuriya forming the spine of the innings – Nuwan Pradeep took 4 for 25, first derailing an then wiping out the chase. The most dramatic over of the game was delivered by Wanindu Hasaranga, however, who was hit for six by Ahmed Shehzad and would then take three wickets off the next four balls, including that of Sarfaraz Ahmed, who was batting well until that point.Imad Wasim struck 47 off 29 balls, and put on 75 in the company of Asif Ali, but with the pair having come together with Pakistan at 52 for 5 after eight overs, their efforts always seemed doomed. In the end, the last five wickets fell in the space of 19 balls.Bhanuka Rajapaksa plays a slog sweep•Getty Images

In the previous match, it had taken Rajapaksa a few overs to find his timing, but here he was flying almost from the outset, tickling Wahab Riaz down the leg side for a four in the fourth over, before carving a 149kph Wahab delivery over cover in that same over. He would hit two more sixes before the Powerplay was done – one towering slog-sweep off Imad, and an imperious straight hit off Mohammad Amir. It was thanks largely to him that Sri Lanka leapt to 52 for 2 by the end of the sixth over – Rajapaksa having hit 24 off 11 with the field up.He was measured for a few overs after that, but cut loose again in the 11th over, launching Shadab Khan for successive leg-side sixes, before reaching his half-century off the 31st ball he faced. The most audacious shots of the evening came against Mohammad Hasnain, who was regularly breaching 140kph. Again off successive balls, Rajapaksa made room in the 14th over, and thumped the fast bowler over the off side – the first of those two sixes sailing over deep extra-cover, the second going a little squarer. When he eventually holed out against Shadab, Rajapaksa had six sixes and four fours to his name. He had also made a strong case for inclusion in the XI even when all the regular players are available. In fact, this outfit has done so well in Pakistan, it’s difficult to tell which one the first-choice T20I side is. As had been the case on Saturday, several players made strong contributions towards the victory. Before Shanaka clubbed 27 off 15 to finish the innings, Jayasuriya had made 34 off 28. With the ball, Kasun Rajitha’s tight first spell, in which he claimed the wicket of Fakhar Zaman and conceded only five runs, was vital to keeping Pakistan quiet through the Powerplay.Too many Pakistan players were off their game. Amir went at ten runs an over, while Hasnain and Shadab were almost as expensive, thanks in part to the Rajapaksa sixes. Umar Akmal then collected his second golden duck in a row, getting out lbw in that manic Hasaranga over, immediately after Shehzad had been bowled by a googly. Babar Azam would often be leading Pakistan in tough chases, but even he has picked up two poor scores so far in the series.
