Nearly four years after losing ODI status on a disastrous day in Lincoln, New Zealand, Netherlands won it back in Dubai. A 236-run second-wicket stand between Wesley Barresi and Ben Cooper smothered the Namibia bowling attack as the Netherlands coasted to an eight wicket win with 53 balls to spare at the ICC Academy Oval 2.Just over an hour later on the adjacent ICC Academy Oval 1, Hong Kong secured a tense 23-run win over Papua New Guinea to guarantee the Dutch the WCL Championship title and a spot in the 13-team ODI League beginning in 2020. The pair of results put Netherlands four points clear of PNG and three ahead of Scotland with one match remaining.The duo came together in the first over of their chase of Namibia’s 269 after Stephan Myburgh drove a sharp catch to extra cover off JJ Smit. Namibia stayed disciplined for the next several overs. But when Barresi swept and cut legspinner Colin Peake for three consecutive boundaries to end the sixth over, it set the tone for two hours of almost uninterrupted leather-chasing for Namibia in the field.Barresi continued to milk boundaries mostly square of the wicket and ended with 11 fours and a six in his 127-ball 120 before his innings ended with a tired gallop down the wicket to Bernard Scholtz. Cooper filled up the gaps in Barresi’s wagonwheel with a clinic in straight driving. When Namibia’s medium pacers dropped short, he didn’t hesitate to pull behind square for more boundaries, collecting 15 fours and two sixes in his unbeaten 109.When Barresi and Cooper were together, they created history with the highest partnership in the six-year history of the WCL Championship, breaking the previous mark of 197 made by Babar Hayat and Anshuman Rath against Netherlands in January. It was on that tour that Cooper teamed with Pieter Seelaar for another epic record-breaking stand, as they battled for the final two and a half sessions of their Intercontinental Cup match in a 288-run sixth-wicket partnership to secure a memorable draw. The Barresi-Cooper stand was just six short of the all-time Netherlands List A record of 242, set by Bas Zuiderant and Daan van Bunge against Denmark at the 2005 ICC Trophy.Namibia had produced a dogged effort after being sent in at the toss with Louis van der Westhuizen and Gerhard Erasmus making half-centuries while JP Kotze contributed 48 from No. 6. Yet all three fell at key junctures to relax any pressure that was building on the Dutch.Roelof van der Merwe also played a pivotal role to rein in the Namibia scoring-rate, attacking the stumps with a disciplined line to claim three wickets. Zane Green was trapped in front for his first victim and a few overs later Craig Williams was bowled for 13. Van der Westhuizen chopped onto his stumps in the following over and from there Namibia’s hopes of a 300 total were dashed.Sarel Burger and Jan Frylinck provided a strong surge in the final five overs as Netherlands fielding became ragged. They dropped five chances in all and Timm van der Gugten slammed the stumps in frustration after the final ball of the innings.But after the dominant stand by Barresi and Cooper, followed by Papua New Guinea’s collapse against Hong Kong, the Dutchmen will be flying into the top flight of one-day cricket all over again.

A linha da TV é colocada depois do passe, e aí mostra ele à frente. Se tivesse sido no momento do passe, ele talvez estivesse em posição legal. No gol do Confiança, o primeiro, o cara que cruza estava impedido. Ainda tivemos outros lances duvidosos. A arbitragem teve influência direta no resultado, principalmente quando se erra dois, três lances capitais. Isso tem sido recorrente na Série B. Penso que deveria ser colocado o VAR para que se evite esse tipo de erro. Está na hora, para que o campeonato não dê margem a ilação, que a CBF coloque o VAR na Série B.

Apesar dos lances onde ele considera que a arbitragem errou, Geninho pontuou que viu seus comandados fazerem uma boa partida. Seja no aspecto técnico como também na atitude diante da adversidade:

-Fizemos um bom jogo. Foi um dos nossos bons jogos. Tivemos alguns momentos de queda. Tivemos um bom primeiro tempo e criamos. Começamos o segundo tempo, mas em dois vacilos tomamos dois gols. Foi nosso pior momento. Depois mandamos no jogo. Tivemos muitas chances de gols no fim. A equipe foi buscar o resultado. Se tivesse alguém que merecesse a vitória, desta vez seria o Avaí – disse o treinador, completando:

– Gostei do espírito de luta. Tomou a virada, mas teve moral para empatar e tentar a virada. Tivemos vários lances de gol. Esse é o time que eu quero, que pode até arriscar e sofrer o gol. Eu quero um time que não se acomoda com o resultado negativo. O empate pode acontecer, mas nunca será isso que vamos buscar.

Além de Gómez, também foram convocados Matías Viña, lateral-esquerdo (Uruguai); Weverton, goleiro (Brasil); e Gabriel Menino, que pode atuar como lateral-direito (Brasil). Eles serão ausências no Verdão nos duelos contra Botafogo, no dia 7 de outubro, e São Paulo, no dia 10.

Também existe a possibilidade de não conseguirem participar do jogo contra o Coritiba, no dia 14, no Allianz Parque. Isso se deve ao fato de que o último compromisso dos atletas com as seleções de seus países será no dia 13, apenas um dia antes da partida em questão. Desta forma, o Palmeiras dependerá do condicionamento físico dos jogadores e de uma questão de logística para trazê-los de volta a São Paulo a tempo.

Liverpool are considering a late swoop for West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen, but only should one outcome occur before September 1st, according to reports.

Where is Jarrod Bowen from?

Bowen was originally born in Leominster, Herefordshire, but completed his big move to the Premier League and indeed the London Stadium from Hull City back in 2020 where he’s since gone on to become an integral member and regular feature of David Moyes’ first team, clocking up 161 appearances to date.

The England international still has another two years remaining on his contract, but having emerged as the Irons’ joint-top goalscorer last season alongside Said Benrahma, he’s caught the eye of FSG and Jurgen Klopp, but not for the first time.

Last summer, TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook revealed that the Reds boss is an “admirer” of the right-winger, whilst transfer insider Dean Jones confirmed that the Merseyside outfit were “keeping an eye” on the 26-year-old’s situation, and despite a deal having failed to come to fruition at the time, they are now considering taking a second bite of the cherry.

According to Football Transfers, Liverpool have "listed" Bowen as a potential transfer target should Mohamed Salah leave before Friday's deadline.

Em entrevista exclusiva para a Corinthians TV, o camisa 4 falou do carinho e da identificação que tem pelo time do Parque São Jorge, após quatro anos como atleta alvinegro somando suas duas passagens. -Eu saí de Campos dos Goytacazes, uma cidade do interior do Rio de Janeiro, pude rodar por vários lugares, mas o lugar que eu mais me identifico é o Corinthians, até pelo tempo que eu tenho aqui, fiquei três anos, depois voltei, estou completando um ano da volta. Então para a minha família e para mim é uma coisa gratificante fazer parte da história do Corinthians, claro que a minha parte é pequena na dimensão do clube, mas eu fico feliz em poder fazer a cada dia, a cada jogo, e deixar meus familiares também orgulhosos.

E essa história do defensor com a camisa do Corinthians começou em 2013, quando foi contratado junto ao Valenciennes, da França. Naquela ocasião, Gil se juntou a um grupo campeão da Libertadores e do Mundo, que o recebeu de braços abertos e proporcionou que ele pudesse escrever seu nome no clube.

-Eu trabalhei para construir a cada jogo, então a partir do momento que eu tive oportunidade, quando eu cheguei era o grupo de 2013, que tinha acabado de ser campeão, todo mundo me recebeu super bem, aí eu me senti à vontade e percebi naquele momento que eu poderia sim também construir a minha história assim como os outros jogadores que estavam aqui e me acolheram.

Apesar das conquistas do Brasileirão de 2015, do Paulistão de 2013 e da Recopa Sul-Americana de 2013, Gil não elegeu um momento marcante específico em suas passagens pelo Corinthians, mas destacou o dia a dia e o carinho de todos os envolvidos como os aspectos mais especiais dessa história.

– Acho que o mais importante é que desde que eu cheguei aqui no Corinthians, eu sempre fui muito bem tratado, então isso aí me deixa feliz, porque a gente sabe que dentro de campo as coisas estão dando certo e acho que na maioria das vezes é porque você tem o carinho do pessoal de dentro do clube, você entra em campo com a responsabilidade de fazer o seu melhor, então não tem um momento marcante, mas acho que todas as vezes que eu vim aqui, eu vim com alegria, com responsabilidade, sabendo que não depende só de mim e das pessoas que estão por fora também.

Um dos líderes do elenco e titular absoluto da zaga, Gil já fez três gols nesta temporada, meta anual estabelecida por ele. Com isso, o objetivo já aumentou para 2020. Embora balançar a rede não seja a sua função inicial, o zagueiro quer ajudar a equipe da maneira que for possível dando o seu melhor.

-Antes eu tinha uma meta de dois ou três gols por temporada, agora já aumentou, então a gente trabalha bastante para poder fazer o melhor. Claro que às vezes as coisas não acabam acontecendo do jeito que a gente espera, mas a gente acende sim essa vontade de querer ajudar fazendo um gol ou fazendo o melhor, então isso dentro de mim está sempre aceso.

Wolverhampton Wanderers completed the signing of Manchester City midfielder Tommy Doyle this past transfer deadline day, on a season-long loan with an option to buy for a fee of around £4.3m.

Cityzens boss Pep Guardiola once described Doyle as a “special” player, after he stood out for the Sky Blues in an FA Cup win in February 2021.

The 21-year-old gem comes into a struggling Wolves side who have just three points from the opening four games, leaving them in 15th place heading into the international break.

Doyle is one of eight new arrivals over the summer at Molineux, and fans will be hoping he can fill the void of recent departure Matheus Nunes, who went in the opposite direction joining Manchester City in a £53m move.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, respected journalist and transfer insider Dean Jones has offered an exciting insight into what Wanderers fans can expect from their new man.

What did Dean Jones say about Tommy Doyle?

Jones has stated that Doyle’s potential influence on this Wolves side should not be underestimated.

When asked whether Gary O’Neil should introduce Doyle immediately into the Wolves side after the international break, he replied:

“I think so because Wolves are obviously now producing the results that people feared might be coming their way at the start of the season.”

He continued on Wolves’ start to the season:

“They started okay when they went to Manchester United and put in that performance, so it looked like they might be okay and there had been a few flashes under O'Neil that suggests they could get out of this.

"But they need the new signings to come into the team now and start getting settled. I think Doyle is one I'm particularly excited to see start to show what he is capable of.

"The early joy that Wolves felt from the start of the season is now gone, but somebody like Doyle undoubtedly has the potential to reignite something in that Wolves team."

Where does Doyle fit in at Wolves?

The 21-year-old whiz impressed in the Championship last season on loan at Sheffield United, as they gained promotion back to the Premier League. He played 33 times in all competitions, scoring four goals and assisting seven for his teammates.

For Wolves, Doyle can expect to be one of two more central midfielders, which since the absence of Nunes has included the young Joao Gomes, alongside the more experienced Gabonese midfielder, Mario Lemina.

Upon arrival, sporting director Matt Hobbs waxed lyrical about the City academy gem, stating that he "ticks a lot of boxes" and is "something different" in the engine room, via the club's official website.

It is likely he will be part of Wolves’ squad when the West Midlands side return to action on the 16th of September, where they host in-form title hopefuls Liverpool at Molineux.

O’Neil has already expressed his delight with his new signing stating the addition of his quality will really “affect games at this level,” hinting at Doyle’s readiness to feature in a game of high magnitude.
