Liverpool want to sign Marco Asensio

Liverpool have already made three signings this summer with Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez and Calvin Ramsay all joining the side, however, Sadio Mane has now completed his move to Bayern Munich which will be a massive loss for the club.

Mane scored 120 goals and contributed 48 assists during his six-year spell at the club and his dominance on the left-wing in the front three will be sorely missed by the club and the supporters next season and beyond.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

With that being said, Liverpool have been linked to Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio, and it has been reported that Jurgen Klopp is keen to sign the player this summer to replace the Senegalese winger.

The £35m dynamo who was dubbed “magical” by football writer Andrew Gaffney, has scored 49 goals and contributed 24 assists in 235 appearances during his time at Los Blancos, with a goal contribution every 167 minutes.

This season in La Liga, the Spanish winger scored ten goals, contributed one assist and created one big chance, making one key pass and taking 2.1 shots on average per game, whilst being successful in completing the majority of his dribbles (68%).

For Spain, Asensio has earned 29 caps, scoring one goal and delivering ten assists for his national side, proving that he has also been an influential player on the world stage too.

Klopp could even unearth his very own Phil Foden by signing Asensio this summer, as the Manchester City gem has been ranked in the top ten most comparable players to the Real Madrid forward over the last season according to FBref.

Despite starting fewer games than Foden (24), Asensio (19) has scored more goals (10), had more shots on target (31) and has a better pass completion rate (81.9%) but the pair are very close in their attacking output for their respective teams.

The Reds will need to compete for the Real Madrid star’s signature as AC Milan are also reportedly very interested in signing the player too ahead of next season, so FSG will need to offer something special to get him to Anfield, especially as he will need to compete for a position in the forward line.

Ultimately, if Liverpool could get the signing over the line this summer it would be a great piece of business for the club in their pursuit to replace Mane’s output next season.

Wolves eye up Andre Almeida signing

Wolves are reportedly interested in signing Vitoria de Guimaraes youngster Andre Almeida in the summer transfer window, according to a fresh rumour.

The Lowdown: Lage chasing summer additions

The 22-year-old has matured into an impressive player at his current club, making 84 appearances to date and thriving in the middle of the park.

Almeida appeared 31 times in the Primeira Liga last season and enjoyed an 86.3% pass completion rate, along with averaging 1.4 tackles per game, ranking him in the top four for both metrics at his club among anyone to start more than 12 league matches (WhoScored).

It now looks as though a summer move to Molineux could possibly be on the cards for the youngster.

The Latest: Wolves keen on Almeida

According to Jornal de Noticias [via Sport Witness], Wolves are keen on acquiring Almeida’s signature, with the midfielder valued at ‘between €4m and €6m’ (£3.4m-£5.1m), which is described as a price range that the Old Gold could easily pay.

However, Portuguese champions FC Porto are also interested in the 22-year-old, so Bruno Lage may have a battle on his hands to bring him to Molineux.

[freshpress-quiz id=“398117″]

The Verdict: He could fill a need

With Ruben Neves expected to leave Molineux this summer, and with Joao Moutinho turning 36 later this year, there is no doubt that midfield reinforcements are required.

Almeida could be ideal in that respect, proving to be an effective figure in front of the defence and allowing more attack-minded players the freedom to express themselves further forward.

[freshpress-poll id=“399044″]

That’s not to say that the Portuguese gem is purely defensive as a midfielder, though, having averaged 1.6 dribbles per game in the league last season (second-highest at Guimaraes), and his all-round game should only improve with exposure to the Premier League.

Aston Villa: Crook makes David claim

Aston Villa could be set to turn their attention towards Lille starlet Jonathan David, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

What’s the word?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider revealed that the Midlands side could potentially make a move for the 22-year-old this summer, having seemingly missed out on (or opted against) a deal for veteran striker, Luis Suarez.

Amid reports linking the Canadian to Villa Park, Crook stated: “We know that obviously, they looked at the Luis Suarez situation. But Jonathan David is somebody that might come onto the radar, I’m told.

“That profile of player might be the path that they go down. So, it’s definitely one to look out for because Aston Villa still have spending power in this market.”

The Premier League outfit are believed to have a longstanding interest in the former Gent ace stretching back to his days in Belgium, although are yet to make an official approach to his current side.

Major coup

Although any deal certainly won’t come cheap – with the highly-rated prospect valued at around £40.5m as per Transfermarkt – should NSWE be able to flex their financial muscle again and bring the youngster to the club it would no doubt represent a significant coup for the ambitious outfit.

Amid problems in attack for Steven Gerrard’s side, with Ollie Watkins top-scoring with just 11 goals in all competitions last term, a move for David would seemingly be a notable solution to those goalscoring woes, with the £35k-per-week marksman having been in explosive form in recent seasons.

Plucked by his current side two years ago, the Brooklyn-born menace has since gone on to score 32 goals and provide five assists in 96 games in all competitions in France, notably bagging 28 league goals across the last two seasons combined.

His tally of 15 top-flight goals last term was only bettered by four players in the division, while the 5 foot 11 speedster also boasts an outstanding record at international level, having scored 20 goals in just 20 appearances thus far.

A key component of the Canada side that has qualified for this year’s World Cup for the first time since 1986, the “fearless” forward – as dubbed by national team coach John Herdman – is currently thriving for both club and country, with a major move to help progress his career seemingly on the cards.

Joining a side that finished in the bottom half of the Premier League last season may appear something of a backwards step, although Gerrard and co are seemingly gearing up for a major assault on the European qualification spots next term, with four major signings under their belt already.

Despite his youth, David could well be the figurehead of that side, while his potential arrival could prove another notable statement of intent from the Villans.

West Ham: Moyes given Broja green light

West Ham United have been handed a huge boost in their bid to sign Armando Broja this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Albanian media outlet Ora News (via The Sun), who claim that, with the centre-forward being heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea this summer, Thomas Tuchel has now decided he will not be taking 20-year-old on the Blues’ pre-season tour of the USA – which kick-offs in mid-July.

The report goes on to state that, should the Albania international indeed be left out of the German manager’s pre-season plans, he will subsequently force a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer – with West Ham, Southampton and Everton all reported to be keen on a £30m deal for the striker.

An “incredible” coup

Considering the abundance of potential Broja quite clearly possesses, in addition to the sheer volume of teams reported to be interested in the signing of the starlet this summer, should Moyes manage to seal a deal for the 20-year-old ahead of both Southampton and Everton, it would undoubtedly represent a huge coup for the 59-year-old Scot.

Indeed, the £19.8m-rated forward first caught the eye during his time spent in the Chelsea academy, bagging 16 goals and providing five assists over 35 appearances for the U18s, netting three goals in 13 fixtures for the U23s and scoring 11 goals and registering three assists over 34 outings during a loan spell at the Blues’ feeder club, Vitesse Arnhem.

Then, last season, the £8.5k-per-week talent took yet another massive step in his development in the professional game, scoring six goals and providing two assists over his six outings in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup for the Saints.

As such, with Moyes in rather desperate need of attacking additions ahead of what is sure to be yet another gruelling Premier League and European campaign for West Ham, the player who Marvyn Harrison dubbed “incredible” and Jake Heasman labelled “scary” would very much appear a fantastic addition for the 59-year-old to make to his squad – with the news that the Hammers look to have been given the green light to move for Broja sure to come as a huge boost for Moyes and co.

Manchester United take ‘important’ Paulo Dybala step

Manchester United are reportedly making ‘important steps’ to sign free agent Paulo Dybala.

The Lowdown: Eriksen and Strakosha pending

The Red Devils have finally made their first summer signing under Erik ten Hag, with left-back Tyrell Malacia penning a four-year deal at Old Trafford during the week.

United also seem to be closing in on two free agents in Christian Eriksen and Thomas Strakosha which would bolster the club’s midfield and goalkeeping ranks respectively, and it looks as if Dybala could be another to arrive in Manchester.

The Latest: Dybala update

United recently called Dybala’s agent, and Sport Witness relayed a fresh update from Il Mattino regarding a potential move for the Argentine.

They claimed that Ten Hag’s side are ‘taking important steps’ to sign the attacker this summer, so a move may have developed further following an initial phone call.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-man-utd-news-4/” title=”Latest Man Utd news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Get it done

Described as ‘world-class’ and ‘phenomenal’ by former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, Dybala is still just 28 years of age and can play anywhere in attack.

He has an impressive record of 144 goals and 64 assists in 403 club appearances, and with Cristiano Ronaldo seemingly wanting out, Dybala could be a shrewd marquee addition at Old Trafford.

You’d expect that the Argentina international won’t be short of offers, though, so if United want to make him a potential third free agent arrival alongside Eriksen and Strakosha, they may need to be quick.

At least it looks as if they are being proactive in their attempts to lure Dybala to Manchester, judging by this report.

Dybala could be Man United’s Diogo Jota

Manchester United have been linked with a move for free agent Paulo Dybala recently and the Argentine could be Erik ten Hag’s own version of Liverpool star Diogo Jota at Old Trafford.

Dybala was never going to be short of suitors after leaving Juventus earlier in the summer and United have been credited with an interest in the former Palermo man, as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season amid the imminent arrival of Lisandro Martinez.

Ten Hag will have to cope without the likes of Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard after their respective exits, while Cristiano Ronaldo has thrown a spanner in the works by suggesting he wants a move away, just weeks into the Dutchman’s reign at the club.

Therefore, attacking signings look to be a must for United this summer and they could sign a player of real quality in Dybala, without having to worry about an enormous transfer fee.

The 28-year-old was in excellent form for Juventus last season, contributing ten goals and five assists in 29 Serie A appearances, earning an impressive 7.22 average rating from WhoScored for his performances.

However, he clearly felt it was time for a new challenge and decided to leave the Turin club on the expiry of his contract, opening the door for United to potentially sign him.

If he were to make the move to Old Trafford, he could be United’s own Jota – as FbRef suggests that the Portugal international is the ninth-most similar player to the Argentine in terms of play style.

Considering the former Wolves man has been superb for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, contributing 34 goals and nine assists in 84 appearances for the Reds, United would be foolish to turn down a player similar to him, especially on a free transfer.

WhoScored suggests that both Jota and Dybala like to cut inside, to tackle and to offer an indirect set-piece threat, so they are clearly both hard-working attackers who can also contribute defensively.

Therefore, the Red Devils should definitely consider signing Dybala this summer, as he could prove to be an “absolute phenomenon” under Ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Everton in contact for Maxwel Cornet

Everton are reportedly in contact over a move for Burnley forward Maxwel Cornet, according to The Athletic.

The lowdown: Attacker wanted

Following the sale of Richarlison to Tottenham, the Toffees have already been extensively linked with a number of attacking options this summer, including Chelsea starlet Armando Broja and Inter Milan veteran Edin Dzeko.

The Brazilian’s departure has left a significant hole in the Goodison Park squad, with only Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Salomon Rondon currently at Frank Lampard’s disposal as senior centre-forward options.

However, after Burnley were relegated to the Championship, Ivory Coast international Cornet could seemingly be edging towards a move to Merseyside…

The latest: Everton ‘in contact’ over Cornet

As per The Athletic, Everton are believed to be ‘working on a deal to sign’ the 29-cap forward.

It’s claimed that the two clubs are ‘in contact’ regarding the transfer, with Goodison Park currently the ‘most likely destination’ for the 25-year-old.

The report added that there is ‘interest from other clubs’ in the player, who was hailed as a ‘different class’ by new Everton signing James Tarkowski during their time together as team-mates in Lancashire.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-7/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The verdict: Shrewd move

Signing Cornet for the mooted €21m (£17.5m) release clause would represent a superb piece of business from the Everton hierarchy, particularly given the current financial constraints brought about by Financial Fair Play.

During his debut Premier League campaign, the former France youth starlet scored nine times and provided two assists in 29 appearances across all competitions for a Burnley side who struggled for the most part last term.

Predominantly operating as a centre-forward, Cornet – who showcased an eye for the spectacular with a long-range volley against Crystal Palace last November – can also play on either wing and as a makeshift full-back, supreme versatility which would be a welcome addition to Lampard’s ranks.

Sharing a close stylistic match with the likes of Che Adams, Kasper Dolberg, Callum Wilson and reported Everton target Broja (FBRef), the Ivorian’s impressive range of attributes and affordable fee, along with the Toffees’ need for a powerful striker, make this potential move a no-brainer for Kevin Thelwell this summer.

Tottenham: Zaniolo targeted as Paratici travels to Italy

Tottenham Hotspur chief Fabio Paratici has travelled to Milan for exit discussions, but according to reports in Italy, the Lilywhites official could also turn his attention to Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo.

The Lowdown: Paratici busy…

After sealing a flurry of major Premier League signings in Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence, sporting director Paratici is at work to orchestrate yet more Spurs activity.

Having touched down in Milan, it is believed that the Spurs chief is there to find possible market solutions for Antonio Conte outcasts like Tanguy Ndombele and Bryan Gil.

There is also apparently a Thursday summit scheduled over a potential loan exit for defender Japhet Tanganga as Serie A giants AC Milan circle for the prospect.

The Latest: Spurs eyeing Zaniolo…

However, as per Calciomercato, Tottenham exit deals aren’t the sole purpose of Paratici’s visit.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-3/” title=”Tottenham latest!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Indeed, according to the Italian outlet and reporter Daniele Longo, his trip abroad could also give the managing director a chance to revisit a long-term ‘target’ of his in Roma star Zaniolo.

Although Spurs would need to submit a ‘rich offer’ for the 23-year-old, it is believed that Roma would prefer selling overseas than to a direct domestic rival – potentially handing the north Londoners a boost.

The Verdict: Make the move…

Zaniolo would demand a significant investment on Tottenham’s part given the player’s alleged €80 million (£68m) price tag but we believe he could be worth it.

As per WhoScored, the Italian attacker proved a real menace under Jose Mourinho last season – attracting more fouls per 90 than anyone in their squad whilst also completing the most successful take-ons.

It’s hardly surprising he has been revered as a major talent with Serie A football critic Carlo Garganese even calling Zaniolo a ‘beast’.

One worry for Conte and co may well be the midfielder’s injury history but there is little denying he can seriously turn it on when fully fit and firing.

Ndombele may leave Spurs in swap deal

Tottenham Hotspur could finally offload Tanguy Ndombele this summer transfer window…

What’s the word?

According to Spanish journalist Xavi Jorquera Marquez, Villarreal could be a potential destination for the French midfielder following a positive meeting with Spurs sporting director Fabio Paratici.

“The Villarreal board has left the meeting with Tottenham very happy,” he tweeted.

“The club has taken a very important step for Gio[vani Lo Celso]. Apart from [Lo Celso], the names of Pervis Estupiñán and Tanguy Ndombelé have come out.

“[Ndombele] likes it a lot. A possible exchange has been considered.”

Time’s up

The 25-year-old, formerly of Lyon, is one of several Spurs players on the chopping block this month.

He has struggled to hit the heights that a club-record £55m signing should be reaching, as in his three-year spell so far, Ndombele has made 91 appearances but only contributed ten goals and nine assists, via Transfermarkt.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-so-much-more” title=”Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Signed by Mauricio Pochettino, Ndombele’s attitude has often been questioned, on top of his evident inconsistencies on the pitch. Just three months after Antonio Conte arrived in the dugout, the midfielder was shipped back to his old club on loan but they weren’t willing to sign him permanently.

Football Insider pundit Alan Hutton once slammed him as “very lazy” and suggested that he had a “petulant” attitude, whilst Sky Sports commentator Jamie Carragher has previously described him as “disgraceful.”

Considering he is also Spurs’ joint highest earner on a reported wage of £200k-per-week, he has been nothing short of a disaster for chairman Daniel Levy, so if Paratici can follow up his recent meeting with the Yellow Submarines board with a formal swap offer, then it would be very wise indeed.

Another wing-back may not be needed but with Sergio Reguilon also thought to be up for sale, Estupinan could be a decent backup signing. According to scout Jacek Kulig, he is “one of the best left-backs in LaLiga” and is “underrated.”

The 24-year-old arriving as the seventh signing of the summer could well allow Tottenham’s nightmare with Ndombele to finally end. If a deal can be done, then Paratici must get it done.

AND in other news, Dharmesh Sheth drops Japhet Tanganga update…

Rangers eye Cambridge goalkeeper Mitov

Glasgow Rangers and Giovanni van Bronckhorst are reportedly now eyeing up a potential move for goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov.

The Lowdown: Goalkeeper needed?

The Ibrox outfit could be forgiven for going for another goalkeeper before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Allan McGregor is not getting any younger at 40, while Jon McLaughlin has not started the season off well, conceding at fault for the opening goal conceded against Union Saint Gilloise in their UEFA Champions League qualifying first leg.

The Latest: Mitov interest

As per Football Insider, the Gers have now registered their interest in Mitov, and are ‘keeping tabs’ on his situation at Cambridge United.

The six-foot-two colossus famously put in a man-of-the-match performance in a 1-0 win for the League One side away at Premier League Newcastle United in the FA Cup last season, and his contract expires at the end of this campaign.

The Verdict: Get it done

Having kept a clean sheet in Cambridge’s opening 1-0 win at home to MK Dons last weekend, Mitov has got off to a good start this term, and so could be a viable option for the Light Blues.

Given his contract situation, the Bulgarian could well be available on the cheap, so a deal in this window would make sense.

Nonetheless, he is only 25 years of age, which is relatively young for a goalkeeper, and so he could be the man in between the posts for the Teddy Bears for years to come.
