Ex-Arsenal man Serge Gnabry rubs salt in the wound after Champions League pounding

There’s nothing quite like watching your rivals suffer a 7-2 loss.Arsenal might only be in the Europa League this year, but at least it’s saved them from suffering the embarrassment of neighbours Tottenham, whose decimation at the hands of Bayern Munich could be enjoyed from the comfort of their own homes. Indeed, as the shots rained down on Hugo Lloris’ goal in the dying embers of the game, three of which found the back of the net in the space of five oh-so-sweet minutes, hypothetical corks must’ve been flying around the red side of north London.

Former Arsenal player Serge Gnabry was responsible for four, yes four, goals on the night, and unsurprisingly he had something to say after the match…

Once rejected by Tony Pulis at West Bromwich Albion, he’s now scored as many goals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Harry Kane (4). Let that sink in.

Arsenal fans encouraged by Bukayo Saka’s performance

Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka impressed many Gunners’ supporters during their 1-0 win against Bournemouth on Sunday.

David Luiz’s goal after just nine minutes sealed the deal for the north London-based outfit as they moved up to third in the Premier League table. However, the Emirates faithful saved their praises for one player.

Saka has received a lot of praise in recent weeks, particularly after outshining £72m signing Nicolas Pepe against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas described Saka as a player that shows “great maturity”, via Metro.

After another mature performance on Arsenal’s left-hand side, Saka received a lot of plaudits from supportive Gooners after the game.

Saka, 18, expressed his jubilance on Twitter after collecting another three points.

One fan recommended that manager Unai Emery should give the youngster a “lifetime contract”, while another described him as “King Saka” after a positive start to his Arsenal career.

Manchester United fans are all saying the same thing after Kepa’s mistake for Spain

Some Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to defend David de Gea, after the man who replaced him in between the sticks for Spain made a significant error in the dying moments against Norway.

Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga – the most expensive goalkeeper ever at £71m – came rushing off his line in an attempt to punch the ball clear, but instead caught Omar Elabdellaoui’s head with his fist.

The 25-year-old stopper’s error saw Norway handed a 93rd-minute penalty, which Bournemouth’s Josh King converted confidently, meaning that Spain were forced to settle for one point instead of three.

Chelsea’s No.1 seems to have replaced Manchester United’s No.1 in Spain’s starting XI, and after they watched the former Athletic Bilbao stopper make such a terrible mistake against Norway, some of the Red Devils’ supporters on Twitter have stood up for the benched keeper.

Let’s take a look at what the United fans on Twitter have been saying…

Man City fans question Pep Guardiola’s use of Phil Foden against Crystal Palace

Man City will be pleased to have got back to winning ways with victory over Crystal Palace, but one aspect of the match has disappointed some supporters.

The Eagles twice came close to scoring in the second half through Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha, but aside from that it was clear sailing for the Citizens.

Pep Guardiola’s side dominated in typical fashion with 71% possession and 21 shots, with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus missing chances late on to put the game to bed.

Despite that, Phil Foden had to wait until the 89th minute for his introduction, and that has caused concern for some.

Their bewilderment is understandable, too, given his manager’s comments, with Guardiola stating that he would never consider selling the England U21 international, even for €500m.

Fans are keen to see Foden given more game time, and are frustrated that his lack of minutes could be hindering his development, particularly as they feel he is capable of performing against opposition lower down the league, such as Palace.

Here are some of the reactions to Foden’s late appearance against the Eagles.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk made the wrong call with Barry Bannan

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Off the Bench series, which places in-game managerial decisions and squad selections under FFC’s microscope.

Cardiff City extended their impressive home form at the expense of Garry Monk’s Sheffield Wednesday after a 1-1 stalemate in the Welsh capital on Friday evening.

Owls centre-back Julian Borner had opened the scoring in the first half with a volley fit for an attacker after he met Kadeem Harris’ cross in the 19th minute.

The visiting boss was denied a fourth win in six league games late on as Lee Tomlin rescued a point for the Bluebirds – he fired an accurate yet controversial free-kick over the wall past stand-in goalkeeper Cameron Dawson.

Cardiff defender Aden Flint had obstructed the shot-stopper’s view in the build-up, which left Monk fuming with the decision.

But the former Swansea City man should direct his anger elsewhere after a different call potentially cost them the match.

In the 73rd minute, the 40-year-old decided to introduce Atdhe Nuhiu for skipper Barry Bannan, resulting in a change of system with two players going up top.

The colossus 6 foot 6 striker was in the wall for the point-salvaging freekick as it glanced past him and into the goal.

Off the Bench

Now, Bannan didn’t have his best game in the blue and white stripes after being dispossessed twice, but he did notch up his highest passing success rate since August with 87% and also contributed with one tackle, per WhoScored.

But it is the experience of the £2.7m-rated man that would have proved useful in seeing this game out – he’s won 27 caps for Scotland and made 85 appearances in the top-flight.

After his substitution, Cardiff were well on top, recording 53.2% possession and five shots compared to Wednesday’s zero.

Sam Hutchinson and Massimo Luongo struggled to cope with the home team’s three-man midfield as they looked seriously overrun – neither player managed better than a 78% passing success rate from Bannan’s withdrawal onwards.

The 29-year-old is one of Wednesday’s most vital creative sources, as he is joint-top amongst the squad for assists with three this season – so by taking him off, Monk was also removing a key attacking outlet and thus diminishing their chance of nabbing a second.

Ultimately, Monk made a major mistake and one that potentially cost them an extra two points.

Arsenal’s ex-captain Robin van Persie agreed with Evra’s "babies" sentiment

Patrice Evra thinks Arsenal are a team of babies, and he’s not far wrong.Unai Emery’s men looked utterly lost as they suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United on Monday night, and despite fourth place crying out to be taken from rivals Chelsea, they’ll remain where they are – sat precariously in fifth, one point ahead of Crystal Palace.Watch Arsenal Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The Manchester United legend, who enjoyed his share of the “real†rivalry between his former side and Arsenal before it became a petty battle for a Europa League spot, was never going to be kind to the Gunners, was he?

Indeed, as a self-proclaimed lover of the game, mediocrity is clearly something he cannot accept. So it should come as no surprise to anyone that he took his opportunity on the grand stage of Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football to patronise Arsenal and belittle Emery’s team for how they’ve performed. Here he is giving a very frank assessment of his “babies…â€

But it’s the sly reference to Robin van Persie, who scored 132 goals whilst playing for Arsenal, accepting that United a squad of men in comparison, really rubs salt in the wound.

He said, “even when Robin van Persie first came, on the first day I shook his hand and said, ‘welcome to a man’s club.’ At the beginning he was upset, but after one month he said, ‘you’re completely right, Patrice.'”

Everton fans fume as Moise Kean is replaced in EFL Cup clash

Everton booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup with a 2-0 win over Watford at Goodison Park on Tuesday night.Mason Holgate made the breakthrough in the 72nd minute, before Richarlison netted a second for the home side in the final exchanges.A safe passage through to the next round, then. However, the Everton fans were absolutely furious with what head coach Marco Silva did at the interval as Theo Walcott was brought on for Moise Kean. The latter is still waiting for his first goal for the club since arriving from Juventus during the summer transfer window.Watch Everton Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

And many of the Merseyside club’s supporters saw little sense in replacing the 19-year-old at the interval as it could have a lasting impact on his confidence.

Kean really, really needs a goal, there is no question about that.

Nottingham Forest fans not entirely pleased with postponed game update

We have a date.

After Nottingham Forest’s fixture against Reading was postponed over the weekend because of the rain that fell, the footballing authorities have decided that the game will now take place on Tuesday 21st January.

Let’s just say that the fans aren’t happy about it, each with their own different reasons.

For some it was because the game is going to take place in midweek, whilst others complained how long they have to wait for the game to be played, suggesting that this all could have been sorted out a lot sooner.

Forest had been unbeaten for ten games before they subsequently lost two matches on the bounce. Rather than having the opportunity to correct it last weekend, they will now have gone two weeks without playing.

Whether or not that has a positive impact remains to be seen.

Here’s how they responded to the update of when the clash with Reading will actually be played.

And there was one fan who pointed out the two sides will be getting rather familiar with each other given the new dates.

Although they can’t complain too much, they’re the home team so it’s not as if they have to make new travel arrangements.

Whilst there was one fan who was hoping that all this rearranging would have to happen one more time, which judging by the general reaction of those above, probably wouldn’t go down too well with the rest of the Forest faithful.

Manchester City are eyeing up Inter Milan youngster Lorenzo Pirola

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Manchester City are keeping tabs on Italian youngster Lorenzo Pirola, having had scouts track the defender at the ongoing U17 World Cup.

What’s the word?

Reports from FcInternews.it state that City, as well as Manchester United,  are keeping a close eye on the 17-year-old.

Pirola was recently knocked out of the FIFA U17 World Cup by Paraguay, but he did score the opening goal in the 2-1 defeat.

The report claims that City had a scout watching the defender in the three group games, whilst United have been keeping tabs on the youngster for a little longer.

Looking promising

Pirola has been impressing a lot during the early stages of his career. The Italian was named in the Team of the Tournament in the U17 European Championships, as he helped his nation to the runners-up spot.

In a piece written by Calciomercato, the Italian outlet referred to the promising defender as a “small Chiellini” which is, of course, an almighty comparison. Although yet to make a senior appearance for Inter Milan, the defender has been a mainstay in the U17s, making 35 appearances.

The youngster has even popped up with a goal for the Inter youth sides, registering three goals and providing two assists from centre-back.

In an interview with Italian media outlet Corriere Dello Sport (via Sempreinter), Pirola has also stated that his footballing idol is Milan Skriniar, who is valued at £54m by Transfermarkt.

If the U17 star were to match the abilities of the Slovakia international, Inter will surely have some player on their hands.

City should continue to track this promising youngster, who is going from strength to strength.

Perhaps he may even make his way into Antonio Conte’s side at some point this season having appeared in a friendly against Tottenham Hotspur in August.

QPR fans react to the news of Chris Ramsey receiving an MBE

Chris Ramsey has received an MBE for services to football and diversity in sport, and his achievement has been met with a multitude of well-wishes on social media.

Now QPR’s Head of Coaching, the former Swindon player has been a tremendous servant to the club over a period of five years, and many supporters feel he is well worthy of such an accolade.

He displayed his great loyalty by staying at the club and accepting a reduced role when he was sacked as manager in 2015, which says a lot about his character and desire to help move QPR forward.

Such a mindset has garnered him much respect amongst the fanbase, and seemingly the wider community, as his years of service have now been rewarded.

He first joined the Hoops while Harry Redknapp, who he knew from his spell working at Tottenham, was in charge, acting as Head of Player Development, and would have overseen the progression of young players such as Harry Kane and Danny Rose.

Many QPR fans appreciate what he has given to their club and football as a whole and have issued praise upon him, as the following reactions show.
