Wolves fans praise goalkeeper Rui Patricio for his impressive form

[ad_pod ]

Wolves started their Premier League campaign with a clean sheet – an away one at that too – after a 0-0 stalemate was contested at the King Power Stadium against Leicester City last Sunday.

In 2018/19, Nuno Santo’s side recorded just two clean sheets away from home both coming before October with 1-0 victories at West Ham and Crystal Palace.

Sunday’s 0-0 meant that it was a sixth clean sheet for their Portuguese shot-stopper Rui Patricio inside eight games for club and country.

The impressive record has led to a number of fans at Molineux heaping praise on the 31-year-old.

One supporter labelled him the best goalkeeper in England at the moment – even ahead of the likes of Alisson, Ederson and David de Gea.

Patricio recorded nine clean sheets last season which was the 11th best in the Premier League.

One predicted that he would be the player of the season for Wolves whilst one fan thought the 6 foot 3 stopper deserved a day off.

Here’s the best of the reaction:

Liverpool XI that Jurgen Klopp should pick against Arsenal

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool will look to maintain their 100% start to the Premier League season when they host Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday.

So far the Reds have recorded wins against Norwich City and Southampton, scoring six goals and conceding two in the process.

They may well face their toughest challenge yet though against the Gunners, given Unai Emery’s men are the only other top flight club with a perfect record as things stand.

The Merseyside outfit have home advantage in their favour, so what starting XI should Jurgen Klopp pick on Saturday?

We take a look below…

The German manager has rotated his midfield and attacking options so far in the Premier League, with captain Jordan Henderson and Fabinho dropping out of the XI against Southampton following their exerts against Chelsea in the Super Cup.

Given the defensive cover and work rate the duo bring collectively, they should both be reinstated against their visitors from the capital, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain providing a bit more attacking impetus alongside them than perhaps Gini Wijnaldum would.

Behind them, Klopp should look to add some pace to a defence that is going to come up against Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe, meaning Joe Gomez gets the nod over Joel Matip alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Trent Alexander-Arnold may not have been at his best so far this term with The Liverpool Echo saying he was often exposed against Norwich, but he has the attacking threat to force Aubameyang to track back should the Gabon international start on the left as he did against Burnley last time out, while Andrew Robertson is a no-brainer on the opposite side.

The front three? Well that speaks for itself, doesn’t it.

Liverpool tipped for the title by Gary Neville after Man City suffer injury setback

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Gary Neville has tipped Liverpool to extend their lead over Manchester City and suggested they have a great chance of winning the Premier League.

What did he say?

Last year the Reds finished just a point behind Man City as they registered their highest ever Premier League points total, but so far this season they have the advantage.

Pep Guardiola’s side drew 2-2 with Tottenham last week, whilst Liverpool took their winning run to a club record 13 games by beating Burnley at the weekend, to sit two points ahead of the champions.

Sky Sports News pundit Neville believes it is a two-horse race once again this season, with Liverpool having the advantage due to problems in the Citizens’ defence.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, he said: “They are a championship team. They are playing at a level that could win the title.

“You talk about the clinical element of a team. The defensive bit is right, the attacking bit is right, and the midfield looks solid and experienced.

“If Aymeric Laporte’s injury is a serious one, it is a big problem for City. I said a few weeks ago that I was struggling to understand why City didn’t follow through on Harry Maguire with Vincent Kompany leaving the club.

“In terms of that leader-type figure, I think Laporte has got that. I think this will cost City points.”

The Frenchman’s injury is believed to be a serious one but it is not yet known how long he will be out for, and the former Manchester United player thinks Man City could struggle with only John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi.

Change in hands

Manchester City were the only side the European champions lost to in the league last season, and given their current run of form they will be confident of amassing a similar points total to last season.

It is quite a statement for Neville to make given the rivalry that exists between him and the club, which suggests that Laporte being missing could really hit Man City significantly.

The defender made 51 appearances in all competitions last season and his consistency was integral to the Sky Blues competing on all fronts and winning the domestic treble.

By comparison, Liverpool have no major injury concerns and instead are better off than last season in that regard following the returns of Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, so could be better placed for their title campaign this year.

However, a similar serious injury to one of Liverpool’s front three or to Virgil van Dijk could threaten to derail their season, and it is too early to predict how Man City will cope without Laporte at the back.

Newcastle United: Many fans left drooling over Fabian Schar assist

Fabian Schar seems to become more impressive by the day to Newcastle United supporters.

On the 31st August, he scored the equaliser against Watford with a clinical left-footed half-volley in the box, as shown in Sky Sports Football’s highlights video on YouTube.

That was then followed up by his goal in Switzerland’s 1-1 draw against the Republic of Ireland, which started off with his pass and intelligent run, ending with a pinpoint shot that went into the bottom corner.

As if that wasn’t enough, on Sunday, he played a superb cross into the box for Admir Mehmedi to score in the 4-0 win against Gibraltar:

With Newcastle only having scored thrice in their first four Premier League games, as per Transfermarkt, they could do with goals coming from all over the pitch, so this is highly encouraging coming from their centre-back.

Some fans are beginning to state that they feel the 27 y/o should be played higher up the pitch, due to his technical ability going forward.

A selection of Twitter reaction to the assist, including posts from impressed Newcastle fans, can be seen below:

Wolves’ Pedro Neto hailed by John Richards

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Former Wolves striker John Richards has backed summer signing Pedro Neto to become a top player in the Premier League, issuing his thoughts to Express & Star.

What’s he said?

The 19-year-old joined the club from Serie A outfit Lazio in a double swoop which also involved Bruno Jordao.

Neto had spent two years on loan in Italy before his move was made permanent for £8m, but he barely featured playing just five times for the senior side.

Earlier this season, the 5 foot 8 winger made his debut in the Europa League. However, since then, he’s only come on as a substitute five other times with that being his only start so far this campaign.

If you don’t know the words to the Joao Moutinho chant in the video below, are you even a real Wolves fan?…

Club legend Richards, who scored 194 times for Wolves and ended his career in Portugal for Maritimo, said:

“The fact he has come into a team with a lot of fellow Portuguese players has helped him out.

“I think they’ll make him so relaxed and at home, so he’ll settle in quickly.

“He has been impressive already, and although he won’t be starting every week straight away, he’s got the makings of a very good Premier League player.”

Increasing impact

With Wolves qualifying for the Europa League group stages, Neto will likely be called upon more and more as the season progresses.

The added burden of such achievements is the fact that they will have two games per week for the foreseeable future, especially if they advance in the Carabao Cup too.

Nuno Santo will need to call upon every one of his squad options which is why he strengthened in the summer by bringing in the likes of Neto, Patrick Cutrone, and Jesus Vallejo.

He’s played just 33 minutes in the Premier League to date, but his impact on debut shouldn’t be underestimated as it showed a little glimpse of what he has to offer.

His most impressive outing so far was in that game, showing everyone why Nuno brought him in by scoring and assisting a goal, per Transfermarkt.

If he earns more starts and shows similar form, there is a reason to believe that in time Richards’ comments may well come to fruition.

Man Utd’s Scott McTominay "vital" to Red Devils, says Tony Cascarino

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Writing in The Times, Tony Cascarino has revealed Scott McTominay is “vital” to Manchester United’s season.

What did he say?

The Scotland international has established himself as a key part of the Red Devils’ first-team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and has started in every Premier League match this season.

Now, Cascarino has insisted the 22-year-old is “vital” to the United side, particularly after the summer departure of fellow midfielder Ander Herrera.

Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

He said: “They will miss the tenacity and ball-winning ability of Ander Herrera, but McTominay is a solid option in that defensive midfielder role. He’s not a world beater but will be a valuable player. United are a club who are going through a transition that will take years thanks to the neglect of the past few seasons.

“Solskjaer is putting them back on the right track and hard-working, committed young players like McTominay will be vital to helping him this season.”

Under-appreciated

Alongside the more flamboyant talents of France World Cup winner Paul Pogba, it is easy to just completely disregard what McTominay brings to the table. After all, he’s not likely to ping one into the back of the net from 30 yards or attempt a no-look cross-field pass. He does the simple things to a tee, and that’s exactly what makes him “vital” to United.

This season he has averaged some impressive defensive numbers, registering 1.6 tackles and 1.8 interceptions per game – figures that double what he recorded last year. His range of passing can no doubt improve, but the fact that he is also making close to twice the number of average passes per game as he did in the last Premier League campaign speaks volumes to how he is willing to embrace the growing responsibility.

He may go unnoticed amidst United’s abundance of pace and trickery, but he is no doubt just as important as the rest of his Red Devils teammates.

Liverpool fans want James Maddison at Anfield after masterclass display vs Spurs

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to call on the club to sign Leicester star James Maddison, after the attacking midfielder’s match-winning display against Tottenham.

The former Norwich man – who the Foxes signed for £20m two summers ago – earned his side all three points with a late winner from long range against Spurs on Saturday.

Maddison, 22, also took four shots in total and made two key passes as he proved to be a constant thorn in Tottenham’s side.

Forgetting his fine performance for a minute, Maddison’s standing amongst Liverpool fans has seemingly gone up even more after he called out The Sun for their tweet about his backpack choice – a quick look at the replies to his tweet shows any criticism of the newspaper is met with delight from Reds fans.

One fan said the Englishman would be “perfect” for the Anfield outfit, while another said he would slot perfectly into Jurgen Klopp’s midfield three.

Let’s take a look at some more of the Twitter reaction…

Manchester United legend Patrice Evra sends motivational message to fans

[ad_pod ]Manchester United is a dire place to be at the moment. From footballing behemoths to cowering mice who resemble nothing of the club fans grew up loving, United have taken a nosedive towards mediocrity. And with West Ham United the latest side to take three points away from them, there’s absolutely no indication that they’re going to emerge from their nightmare anytime soon. But that hasn’t stopped former defender Patrice Evra from trying his hardest to rally the troops.Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The Frenchman is one of the few remaining relics of the Sir Alex Ferguson era at Old Trafford, having recently returned as a coach, and while it may feel his attempts to raise spirits in the United camp with incessant pep talks, morale boosters, slightly annoying slogans and general jolliness have so far been futile, at least he’s trying. A gold star for you, Patrice.

The time has come: ‘Ole out’ has started to pick up momentum on social media as sections of United’s global fan base begin to stick their fingers up at sentiment. After all, it was only the Champions League final he helped them win.

Naturally, Monsieur Evra wasn’t too pleased with these mutineers and took to social media in an attempt to recruit them back into the fray…

Wolves suffer blow with Bruno Jordao as promising display ends in injury

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Wolves were taken to penalties in their third-round Carabao Cup tie against Championship outfit Reading but managed to sneak through as the visitors missed two of their spot-kicks.

Nuno Santo made a total of ten changes for the fixture with a debut being handed to Bruno Jordao, who joined the club in the summer from Lazio.

The 20-year-old midfielder scored their only goal in regulation time as he smashed home a strike from 25 yards out, but the second-tier team fought back and forced the game to penalties as Lucas Boye met John Swift’s deft rabona cross in what was a dramatic finish.

The west Midlands club have been struggling in the Premier League so far this season sitting second-bottom, and this latest result wouldn’t have helped confidence too much considering they could only draw with Reading over the 90 minutes.

One of their biggest problems this season has been in midfield, where instrumental figures like Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves have regressed since last season having finished in a record seventh place.

Jordao showed glimpses of promise before his game was agonisingly cut short by injury in the 42nd minute.

In his first-half cameo, the Portugal Under-21 international managed to register one key pass and one tackle, on top of scoring their only goal of the match too.

This could suggest that he’s the sort of box-to-box midfielder that Wolves have been crying out for this season so they could be left gutted as he faces time on the sidelines. Nuno said after the match that it was an ankle issue.

Jordao also recorded 87% passing accuracy which is some way above that of the two aforementioned stalwarts that have been playing in the heart of midfield for the club this season.

Watch Wolverhampton Wanderers Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Neves has managed just 72.8% while Moutinho’s passing success rate is down from last season by around 6%, averaging only 81.9%. Their underwhelming outings have become somewhat of a concern so seeing Jordao limp off is unlikely to help matters further.

In his short time on the field, he looked like a potential solution but they’ll now have to wait longer to work out whether he’s the real deal.

The Wolves boss was often stubborn in his team selection last term as he only used a total of 19 players in the Premier League, but this season he’s chopped and changed regularly utilising 24 members of his squad as the club have had to endure a gruelling Europa League qualification campaign.

Wolves’ summer arrival certainly looked bright in his short debut, so hopefully, he can return as soon as possible to help his side turn things around.
